Can Artificial Intelligence, Specifically Large Language Models (Llms), Enhance Human Emotional Intelligence Responses In A Small Team Work Environment?, Jason Evans

AI Assignment Library

Compare real-world human responses to potential conflict situations to an artificial intelligence response. Several articles have suggested that LLMs may actually be more successful at modeling proper human emotional responses than factual based responses. The objective of this assignment is for students to discover if and how a LLM can serve as a model for proper responses to minimize conflict and increase team effectiveness. This specific assignment was designed for aviation students, but can be adapted for any small team working environment.

Workload Assessment For Community Corrections Staffing For The Washington Department Of Corrections, Nathan Lowe, Adam K. Matz, Benjamin Korelitz, Angela Greene, Kathryb Hogan

Criminal Justice Faculty Publications

About 20 years ago, the Washington State Department of Corrections (WADOC) participated in two workload evaluations with the aim of identifying key tasks associated with community corrections work and the time to complete such tasks, and utilized these data to inform the amount of resources needed to carry out the responsibilities of the Community Corrections Division (CCD). Those evaluations set a precedent for how WADOC made informed decisions that shaped practice and policy for staffing. Then, in the fall of 2021, WADOC contracted with Westat, Inc. to conduct an updated, full-scale workload assessment of staff members who carry out the …

Whether Report? Understanding Just Culture Through Safety Reporting, James Norman

Aviation Faculty Publications

Improving our understanding from safety reporting is part of the raison d'etre of Just Culture, and voluntary reporting has a critical role. Comparing the attitudes and behaviors of pilots, dispatchers, air traffic controllers, and maintenance personnel, this paper highlighting dissertation research finds important differences between the groups, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities ahead. This study found that (1) principles of Just Culture in the US have not permeated significantly beyond pilots and dispatchers, (2) maintenance and ATC personnel reported a lack of resources and opportunities for remediation, with reporting programs often being punitive or perceived as such, and …

Blood-Based Versus Stool-Based Biomarker Accuracy In Detection Of Colorectal Cancer And Impact Of Non-Invasive Tests On Patient Participation, Allison Obritsch

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers

Colorectal cancer is a very treatable cancer when detected early, therefore patient adherence and colorectal cancer screening is key to decrease mortality. The purpose of this research and systematic literature review was to determine how the accuracy of blood-based and stool-based biomarkers compared in the detection of colorectal cancer and how noninvasive testing modalities influence patient participation in colorectal cancer screening. Only articles published within the past 10 years were included. A combination of keywords and MeSH phrases to include but not limited to “adherence,” “SEPT9,” “colonoscopy,” “multitarget stool,” and “colorectal cancer” were used to find relevant articles for each …

Commentary On The Special Issue: Seeing Self-Based Methodology Through A Philosophical Lens, Elizabeth Suazo-Flores, Signe E. Kastberg, Melva Grant, Olive Chapman

Teaching, Leadership & Professional Practice Faculty Publications

A mathematics teacher educator’s (MTE) use of self-based methodologies goes beyond developing MTE professional knowledge by contributing scholarly inquiry into MTE work. Existing discussions of MTEs’ use of self-based methodologies have provided descriptions of the methodologies and examples of their use by MTEs to unpack their practice. What is less clear is why MTEs elect to use self-based methodologies. Yet central to understanding and validating self-based methodologies as a means of developing knowledge in mathematics teacher education is understanding the aims of MTEs who use such methodologies. On the basis of author interviews, drafts, and final papers for this special …

Developing A High-Efficiency Method For Field-Scale Simulation Of A Tight And Naturally Fractured Reservoir In The Williston Basin, Xincheng Wan, Lu Jin, Tao (Todd) Jiang, James A. Sorensen, Chenyu Wu, Ahmed Merzoug

EERC Publications, Papers, & Presentations

A novel FDO (fracture and DRV optimization) workflow was proposed in this study to better reproduce the production and water injection history of a tight reservoir with natural fractures in the Williston Basin. Compared to most of the published work in this area, the FDO workflow can significantly improve the simulation efficiency for field-scale simulation models considering the presence of a complex natural fracture network.

Measuring Success: An Evaluability Assessment For The Grand Forks Domestic Violence Court, Adam K. Matz, Roni Mayzer, Samantha Ledahl, Aj Buntrock

Criminal Justice Faculty Publications

First implemented in the 1990s, specialized domestic violence courts represent one of several solutions developed to improve the response to domestic violence and enhance services for victims (Collins et al., 2021). Other solutions have included mandatory arrest and prosecutorial no-drop policies as well as increased funding support for victim services. There are reportedly over 300 DVCs in the United States as well as 50 in Canada and 100 in the United Kingdom (Eley, 2005; Gutierrez et al., 2016; Hemmens et al., 2020; Home Office, 2008; Tutty & Koshan, 2013). Based on input from a variety of key stakeholders including judges, …

The Revolutionary Power Of Boredom, Kira T. Symington May 2023

The Revolutionary Power Of Boredom, Kira T. Symington

Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Showcase

This philosophical presentation uses Sara Ahmed's writings on how our habits and routines make up the "flow of life to explore one of the most time-consuming habits that people take part in: our technology and social media usage. Analyzing this habit leads us to understand what future it orients us towards; that being the archive and the image. Using Roberto Simanoski's book "Waste," this analysis of the archive leads us to conclude that our media usage causes us to view life as without character and meaning and thus, as boring. Jeremy Weissman adds to this exploration of the archive, revealing …

Indigenous Health Faculty Publications

The North Dakota Department of Health (DoH)a Oral Health Program (OHP)b has established a school-based dental sealant program, (SEAL!ND)c , which has been providing dental sealants, fluoride varnish applications, oral health education and dental screenings and referrals for students throughout North Dakota dating back to 2012. All services occur in the school during school hours. School-based sealant programs are a highly effective way to deliver preventive oral health services and dental sealants to children less likely to receive private dental care. The SEAL!ND program prioritizes providing preventive oral health care to low-income and underserved students by targeting schools with 45% …

Rural Mental Health Care During A Global Health Pandemic: Addressing And Supporting The Rapid Transition To Tele-Mental Health, Shawnda Schroeder, Holly Roberts, Thomasine Heitkamp, Brandy Clarke, Heather J. Gotham, Erika Franta

Indigenous Health Faculty Publications

The adoption of tele-mental health by mental health professionals has been slow, especially in rural areas. Prior to 2020, less than half of mental health agencies offered tele-mental health for patients. In response to the global health pandemic in March of 2020, mental health therapists across the U.S. were challenged to make the rapid shift to tele-mental health to provide patient care. Given the lack of adoption of tele-mental health previously, immediate training in tele-mental health was needed. This article describes collaborative efforts between two mental health technology transfer centers and one addiction technology transfer center in rural regions of …
