Deep-Sea Environment, William E. Galambos
Deep-Sea Environment, William E. Galambos
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
The deep-sea environment is divided into three zones: the abyssopelagic, the abyssobenthic, and the hadal zones. The ocean floor is not a smooth featureless sedimentary plain as has been believed earlier, but instead it is of rough topography with numerous irregularities, deep depressions, many high seamounts, and elongate ridges and trenches, determined largely by tectonic movements and volcanic extrusions. The sea floor is the place of accumulation of solid detrital material of organic or inorganic origin, and it is virtually covered with unconsolidated sediments. These sediments are being deposited on the ocean floor at rates which vary from place to …
Pleistocene Terraces Of The Atlantic Coastal Plain, Richard B. Moe
Pleistocene Terraces Of The Atlantic Coastal Plain, Richard B. Moe
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
Pleistocene terraces on the Atlantic Coastal Plain have been recognized since the late 1800's, and from four to seven terraces have been described throughout Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. These terraces are now named Brandywine, Coharie, Sunderland, Wicomico, Penholoway, Talbot or Chowan, and Pamlico; and they are defined by relatively concordant shorelines at altitudes of 270-, 215-, 170-, 100-, 70-, 42-, and 25 feet above sea level. They have been correlated with respect to the glacial ages and substages and corresponding eustatic changes in sea level. The Various hypotheses regarding the origin of the terraces are: 1. …

Legal Aspects, Limitation, And Obligations Of Oil Well Drilling With Special Refrence To North Dakota, Mark Reishus
Legal Aspects, Limitation, And Obligations Of Oil Well Drilling With Special Refrence To North Dakota, Mark Reishus
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
In the drilling of an oil or gas well, a person must first acquire the right to drill. This can be accomplished by the purchase of the land or of the mineral rights, although it is usually done by leasing the mineral rights. Before drilling, he must perform all operations required by the state in which he intends to drill. During drilling, he must observe the rights of adjacent landowners, safety regulations, rules preventing contamination of ground waters and wasting of oil, and any other regulations which are in effect in the state in which he drills.

Gastropoda From The Pierre Shale (Upper Cretaceous) Of Emmons County, South-Central North Dakota, Alan M. Cvancara
Gastropoda From The Pierre Shale (Upper Cretaceous) Of Emmons County, South-Central North Dakota, Alan M. Cvancara
Theses and Dissertations
Fossil gastropods were studied from the upper part of the Pierre shale (Upper Cretaceous) in Emmons County, south-central North Dakota. This primary purpose of this study was to figure all gastropods found and bring the nomenclature of up to date. Secondly, an attempt was made to determine whether these fossil gastropods could be used in defining the contact between the Pierre shale and overlying Fox Hills sandstone.
Little paleontological work has been done on Pierre gastropods in North Dakota. Identification previously made seem to have been done somewhat hurriedly from Meek (1876) with little regard to modernizing the nomenclature.
These …
