The sunspot data seems to indicate that the Sun is likely to enter Maunder Minimum, then it will mean that low Sun activity may cause low temperature in Earth. If this happens then it will cause a phenomenon which is called by some climatology experts as “The Little Ice Age” for the next 20-30 years, starting from the next few years. Therefore, the Earth climate in the coming years tend to be cooler than before. This phenomenon then causes us to ask: what can we do as human being in Earth to postpone or avoid the worsening situation in terms …

INTRODUCTION: The Cherokee Nation Comprehensive Cancer Control Program collaborated with the Cherokee Nation Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Elimination Program within Cherokee Nation's Health Services to plan and implement activities to increase knowledge and awareness of liver cancer prevention among health care providers and the Cherokee Nation community. From August 2017 to April 2018, the 2 programs implemented liver cancer prevention interventions that focused on education of health care providers and community members. We used descriptive statistics to analyze data collected from a brief, retrospective pre-post survey for each intervention. We assessed overall awareness and knowledge of liver cancer and ability …
Effects Of Coefficient Of Thermal Expansion On Unbonded Concrete Overlay Design And Performance, Gauhar Sabih
Effects Of Coefficient Of Thermal Expansion On Unbonded Concrete Overlay Design And Performance, Gauhar Sabih
Civil Engineering ETDs
With the deterioration of highway pavements across the country, more emphasis is being laid on the rehabilitation of existing pavements. Unbonded concrete overlay (UBCO) is a cost-effective technique used to rehabilitate damaged concrete pavements. The design and performance of UBCO rely on various properties of concrete, of which coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is an important one. Concrete CTE has a direct impact on the design and performance of rigid pavements and overlays. CTE regulates the magnitude of curling and related stresses that impact the performance of overlays with regards to cracking, faulting and pavement roughness. Previous research revealed that …

The dataset has 68 metadata fields containing data from the OMI's database and interviews with next of kin. Some metadata fields could be mapped to existing standards, but the majority of fields required some modifications to current standards or the creation of new standards.
Tailored Frequency Comb Structures And Their Sensing Applications, James Hendrie
Tailored Frequency Comb Structures And Their Sensing Applications, James Hendrie
Optical Science and Engineering ETDs
The focus of this dissertation is the development and investigation of nested cavity mode-locked lasers and their resultant tailored frequency combs. A nested cavity is made up of two cavities, known as parents. One parent is a larger, active, 100MHz Ti:Saph oscillator and the other is a smaller, passive, 7GHz Fabry-Perot Etalon (FPE). Unlike standard frequency combs that are continuous, a tailored comb’s teeth are distributed in equally spaced groups where the center of each group corresponds to the resonance of the FPE and the side bands are determined by the resonances of the Ti:Saph. This unique coupling of the …

Assessment Of The Biocompatibilty, Stability, And Suitability Of Natural And Synthetic Polymers And Drugs In The Fda Approval Process, Phuong Anh Hoang Nguyen
Biomedical Engineering ETDs
Regulation of the development, production, marketing, and sales of medical pharmaceuticals and devices in the United States fall under the regulatory functions of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The current FDA approval process takes an average of 10 years from start to completion, and costs over $100 million. As a result, companies use many different methods to find additional use of their drugs through marketing directly to the physician, or recycling of previously approved drug moieties. In this work, an evaluation of the in vitro and ex vivo biocompatibility of polymers and drugs in different phases of FDA approval …

Supporting Physicians And Practice Teams In Efforts To Address The Opioid Epidemic, Lisa M. Letourneau, Jolie Ritzo, Richard Shonk, Mark Eichler, Stevi Sy
Project ECHO Bibliography
Primary care physicians and practice teams increasingly recognize the need to take a role in addressing the growing epidemic of opioid use disorder (OUD) and opioid-related drug overdose deaths, but face considerable challenges in doing so. Through its work supporting practice transformation efforts, sharing innovations, and connecting key sectors within communities, the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement and several of its member regional health improvement collaboratives have identified innovative ways to support physicians and practice teams in transforming practice in ways that address a spectrum of issues related to opioid use. These strategies include efforts to prevent, identify, and treat …

Finding The Sonic Sweet Spot: Implementing A Noise Management Program In A Library Learning Commons, Cindy Pierard, Olivia Baca
University Libraries & Learning Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications
Noise in academic libraries has been a consistent concern of library staff and library users. This concern has intensified as libraries have emphasized their role in supporting student learning, including learning that occurs in a busy, collaborative environment. Studies of acceptable library noise levels have traditionally been conducted in areas where quiet was expected. This study adds to the literature by studying ideal noise levels for a busy, collaborative study space: the library learning commons.

Pediatrics Research and Scholarship
Background: Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Perturbed gut- microbiota (dysbiosis) and increased intestinal permeability (leaky-gut) with translocation of bacterial antigens, play critical role in obesity and metabolic syndrome, which are also major ACS risk factors. Additionally, Trimethylamine-N-Oxide (TMAO), a metabolite produced by phylum Proteobacteria in gut is implicated in developing ACS. As Proteobacteria is a major source of translocated antigen lipopolysaccharides (LPS), we hypothesized that ACS patients have leaky-gut condition characterized by dysbiosis with increased Proteobacteria, leading to elevated blood levels of TMAO and LPS.
Methods: In a pilot case-control study, we enrolled …
Freshwater Conservation, Drinking Water Quality And Climate Change Adaptation: A Case Study On Nepal, Samrat B. Kunwar
Freshwater Conservation, Drinking Water Quality And Climate Change Adaptation: A Case Study On Nepal, Samrat B. Kunwar
Economics ETDs
Our world today faces a myriad of unprecedented environmental challenges that transcends spatial and temporal reach. These problems involve interconnected ecological and social systems operating on multiple scales and include issues like climate disruption, water stress, food security, biodiversity loss, over-population and species declines and extinctions. These issues are more acute in rapidly growing nations like Nepal, where environmental protection is often considered a luxury. Such environmentally unsound development practices will not only create an imbalance in the ecological and the social functioning and dynamics, but it also threatens the future development of the country itself. In this dissertation, I investigate …

First Responder Echo: Developing An Innovative Telementoring Program, Neil Katzman, Jessica Medrano, Robin Swift, Paige Menking
Project ECHO Bibliography
First Responders across the globe suffer from increased rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and compassion fatigue. Because their work environment places them on the front lines of crisis situations nearly every day, first responders experience a significant amount of trauma, which can lead to PTSD and other psychological symptoms. Project ECHO, a successful telementoring program, whose mission is to educate clinicians and other health care providers in rural and underserved communities, will be piloting a First Responder ECHO beginning September 2019. The primary goal of the First Responder ECHO is to improve the confidence and knowledge of First …
