Reducing The Wealth Gap Through Fintech 'Advances' In Consumer Banking And Lending, Nathalie Martin, Pamela Foohey
Reducing The Wealth Gap Through Fintech 'Advances' In Consumer Banking And Lending, Nathalie Martin, Pamela Foohey
Faculty Scholarship
Research shows that Black, Latinx, and other minorities pay more for credit and banking services, and that wealth accumulation differs starkly between their households and white households. The link between debt inequality and the wealth gap, however, remains less thoroughly explored, particularly in light of new credit products and debt-like banking services, such as early wage access and other fintech innovations. These innovations both hold the promise of reducing racial and ethnic disparities in lending and bring concerns that they may be exploited in ways that perpetuate inequality. They also come at a time when policy makers are considering how …
Prediction Of Self-Diffusion Constants In Model And Real Systems Using Machine Learning, Joshua P. Allers
Prediction Of Self-Diffusion Constants In Model And Real Systems Using Machine Learning, Joshua P. Allers
Chemical and Biological Engineering ETDs
Understanding diffusion of chemical compounds is important for the design and optimization of many chemical engineering and energy processes. Recent modifications to the Darken equation allow for accurate prediction of Maxwell-Stefan (MS) diffusion in mixtures. Still, there are few practical applications due to the requirement of individual self-diffusion constants. A reliable predictive model for self-diffusion constants would be highly valuable when used in conjunction with the modified Darken equation. Here, we show that Machine Learning (ML) can be used to develop generalized models for self-diffusion in Lennard Jones (LJ) systems and real systems of pure solutions. The use of Artificial …

Why Are Women Lawyers Underrepresented In Criminal Justice?, Maryam Ahranjani
Faculty Scholarship
When the ABA’s Criminal Justice Section (CJS) created the Women in Criminal Justice Task Force (TF) in 2019, we knew that women lawyers in the criminal sector were underrepresented in the workforce, but we did not know why. Thus, the TF set out to investigate the challenges facing women criminal lawyers in hiring, retention, and promotion. By assembling a group of women with diverse lived and professional experiences, cochairs Professor Carla Laroche and Tina Luongo sought to elevate women’s voices previously not heard by CJS and develop and promote strategies to achieve full inclusion of those voices in CJS, the …

Grief Work With The Philly Death Doula Collective: An Oral History Project, Leo L. Williams
Oral Histories HIST300, Spring 2021
On March 25th, 2021 a Master’s student in American Studies (Leo Williams) at the University of New Mexico met with the Philly Death Doula Collective over Zoom. The current members of the collective are Lori Zaspel, Kai Wonder, and Nicki Cowan, social workers, and Death Doulas living in Philadelphia. In this oral history interview, the collective speaks to their vision of death care infrastructure, their goals and services as a collective, how COVID-19 has affected them, and their relationship to death positive activism.

BACKGROUND: Convalescent plasma is being used widely as a treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, the clinical efficacy of COVID-19 convalescent plasma is unclear.
METHODS: The Passive Immunity Trial for Our Nation (PassITON) is a multicenter, placebo-controlled, blinded, randomized clinical trial being conducted in the USA to provide high-quality evidence on the efficacy of COVID-19 convalescent plasma as a treatment for adults hospitalized with symptomatic disease. Adults hospitalized with COVID-19 with respiratory symptoms for less than 14 days are eligible. Enrolled patients are randomized in a 1:1 ratio to 1 unit (200-399 mL) of COVID-19 convalescent plasma that has …
The Bluff River Trail: A Community Land Ethic, Kelly F. Davis
The Bluff River Trail: A Community Land Ethic, Kelly F. Davis
Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs
The Bluff River Trail (BRT) is a future 10+ mile trail along the San Juan River corridor in the 4-Corners region of the Southwestern United States. By asking, what is the land ethic of the Bluff Community? this qualitative study identifies behaviors and beliefs, or land ethics, between seven Bluff residents and the San Juan River corridor. A land ethic contributes to the social re/production of space; therefore, third space theory contextualizes intersecting and contradicting spatialities evidenced in data. Data collection consisted of semi-structured interviews, questionnaires and focus groups. I used a qualitative content analysis pulling from grounded theory to …
Understanding The Prevalence Of Compassion Fatigue, Compassion Satisfaction, And Resilience In Primary Care, Christina M. O'Connell
Understanding The Prevalence Of Compassion Fatigue, Compassion Satisfaction, And Resilience In Primary Care, Christina M. O'Connell
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
Compassion fatigue (CF), its components of burnout (BO) and secondary traumatic stress (STS), and compassion satisfaction (CS) affect healthcare providers and staff and can dramatically influence patient care and access to primary care services. Resilience is a tool which serves as a protective factor that can mitigate CF and enhance CS. There is a gap in research regarding the relationship between compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, and resilience among primary care providers and frontline staff. Additionally, the current COVID-19 pandemic has revealed healthcare’s deficits related to staff and provider burnout, a myriad of workforce safety issues, disparities in care, and a …

Project ECHO Bibliography
INTRODUCTION: Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (Project ECHO©) is an innovative model for continuing professional development that uses videoconferencing technology to support and train general practitioners remotely. The model has been replicated to a variety of settings and locations for capacity building in healthcare professionals caring for patients with chronic and complex health conditions. Limited research has been conducted so far on the impact of ECHO in the field of concurrent mental health and substance use disorders (ie, concurrent disorders (CDs)). Therefore, this mixed methods study aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of an ECHO programme impact for CD management …

T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is an aggressive hematologic malignancy with inferior outcome compared with that of B cell ALL. Here, we show that Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) was upregulated in high-risk T-ALL with KMT2A rearrangements (KMT2A-R) or an immature immunophenotype. In KMT2A-R cells, we identified RUNX2 as a direct target of the KMT2A chimeras, where it reciprocally bound the KMT2A promoter, establishing a regulatory feed-forward mechanism. Notably, RUNX2 was required for survival of immature and KMT2A-R T-ALL cells in vitro and in vivo. We report direct transcriptional regulation of CXCR4 signaling by RUNX2, thereby promoting chemotaxis, adhesion, …
