Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE), the leading known cause of childhood developmental disability, has long-lasting effects extending throughout the lifespan. It is well documented that children prenatally exposed to alcohol have difficulties inhibiting behavior and sustaining attention. Thus, the Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART), a Go/No-go paradigm, is especially well suited to assess the behavioral and neural functioning characteristics of children with PAE. In this study, we utilized neuropsychological assessment, parent/guardian questionnaires, and magnetoencephalography during SART random and fixed orders to assess characteristics of children 8-12 years old prenatally exposed to alcohol compared to typically developing children. Compared to neurotypical …
Enabling Intelligent Network Management Through Multi-Agent Systems: An Implementation Of Autonomous Network System, Petro Mushidi Tshakwanda
Enabling Intelligent Network Management Through Multi-Agent Systems: An Implementation Of Autonomous Network System, Petro Mushidi Tshakwanda
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
This Ph.D. dissertation presents a pioneering Multi-Agent System (MAS) approach for intelligent network management, particularly suited for next-generation networks like 5G and 6G. The thesis is segmented into four critical parts. Firstly, it contrasts the benefits of agent-based design over traditional micro-service architectures. Secondly, it elaborates on the implementation of network service agents in Python Agent Development Environment (PADE), employing machine learning and deep learning algorithms for performance evaluation. Thirdly, a new scalable approach, Scalable and Efficient DevOps (SE-DO), is introduced to optimize agent performance in resource-constrained settings. Fourthly, the dissertation delves into Quality of Service (QoS) and Radio Resource …

Indigenous Influence On The Rights Of Nature Movement, Vanessa Racehorse
Indigenous Influence On The Rights Of Nature Movement, Vanessa Racehorse
Faculty Scholarship
The growing recognition of the rights of nature is a blend of both modern conservation efforts and principles reflected in traditional Indigenous stewardship that should be an essential component of the discourse around environmental justice. This article provides an overview of the laws that invoke the rights of nature that Indigenous perspectives and practices regarding environmental preservation have influenced. This discussion pays particular attention to the White Earth Band of Ojibwe's "Rights of Manoomin" law and Manoomin v. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (White Earth Band of Ojibwe Tribal Ct. 2021), the first rights of nature case filed in a …

Assessing Attitudes Towards Pediatric Research Participation Across Diverse Populations: Psychometric Properties Of A Novel Tool, Megan M. Hare, Courtney S. Walker, Dustin E. Sarver, Crystal S. Lim, Dustin C. Brown, Robert D. Annett
Pediatrics Research and Scholarship
BACKGROUND: Clinical trials play a crucial role in advancing medical knowledge and improving health outcomes. However, there is a recognized need for greater representation of marginalized groups to ensure that research findings can be generalized and effectively applied to all individuals. While the Pediatric Research Participation Questionnaire (PRPQ) was developed to assist pediatric clinical trials research by identifying benefits and barriers to research participation among children with chronic medical conditions, there is still limited insight into the structure of the PRPQ when administered in diverse samples, including the general pediatric population. Therefore, the current study examined the factor structure of …

The Native Health Database: 1993-2022, Jonathan M. Pringle
Publications
Background: The Native Health Database (NHD) was created in the early 1990s and functioned for nearly three decades exclusively as an abstracting database; it provided text-based search results and in some cases embedded external links to full text content. Its purpose was (and continues to be) to provide information pertaining to the health and health care of Indigenous populations in North America—to myriad end users who in turn can use the content to improve health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.
Case Presentation: The period of 1993-2022 is a significant period in the management of the NHD, demonstrating the relationship …

City Of Santa Fe's Offset Program: A Comprehensive Demand Analysis And Program Review, Francesca Shirley
Water Resources Professional Project Reports
In principle, Development Water Offset programs (offset programs) are designed to allow for urban growth without increasing water demand. Offset programs necessitate a reduction in existing water demand, typically achieved through plumbing retrofits, equal to the expected new demand, resulting in a net zero increase in water use. The City of Santa Fe (Santa Fe) has administered an offset program since 2002. The program banks water saved from its retrofit rebate programs. The banked water savings, known as Conservation Credits, can then be purchased by developers, and dedicated to new development projects. Under the water bank model, new demand has …

Eviction Sealing Should Top New Mexico’S Legislative Housing Agenda, Allison Freedman

In January 2023, the White House released a Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights, which called for immediate sealing of eviction case filings—often referred to as “Scarlet E’s”—to help reduce the likelihood that tenants would be “locked out of future housing opportunities without the chance to defend themselves.”

Using L1 Student Narratives And Peer Teaching To Increase Secondary Education Mathematical Understanding, Marco Antonio Martinez Leandro
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
This phenomenological study research presents an option to use both discourse in the native language and technology as an alternative to improve the understanding of mathematics in secondary education. 13 students whose native language is Spanish attended a high school in a large urban school district in the Southwest of the United States, participated in this study.
The study's main objective was to observe the effects of using students' discourse in their language and the support of technology to increase their academic literacy in mathematics. Solution-based pedagogy was central to helping students achieve the Development of Academic Literacy in Mathematics …

Join us for a lecture "Revitalizing Indigenous Languages," part of the Language Learning Center's Speaker Series.
The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the proclamation of the current International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2023-2032) have made their dent in making indigenous languages visible. But these efforts do nothing to strengthen languages without the active design and implementation of projects by indigenous nations in their territories.
As a comparatist, Dr. Carcelén-Estrada uses disciplines as tools that enable the translation of epistemologies and meanings according to the demands of each world contained in a language, always hoping to have …

During the onset of neuropathic pain from a variety of etiologies, nociceptors become hypersensitized, releasing neurotransmitters and other factors from centrally-projecting nerve terminals within the dorsal spinal cord. Consequently, glial cells (astrocytes and microglia) in the spinal cord are activated and mediate the release of proinflammatory cytokines that act to enhance pain transmission and sensitize mechanical non-nociceptive fibers which ultimately results in light touch hypersensitivity, clinically observed as allodynia. Pramipexole, a D2/D3 preferring agonist, is FDA-approved for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and demonstrates efficacy in animal models of inflammatory pain. The clinical-stage investigational drug, R(+) enantiomer of pramipexole, dexpramipexole, …
