The Higgs particle has been detected a few years ago, that is what newspapers tell us. For many physicists, the Standard Model of particle physics has accomplished all the jobs. Or to put it simply: The game is over. Is it true? Then some physicists began to ask: can go beyond the Standard Model? Because the supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model has failed. If you feel that theoretical physics is becoming boring, you are not alone. Fortunately, there is good news: a new generation of physicists are doing table-top experiments in their basements. Can we expect new results later?2 …

Pediatrics Research and Scholarship
BACKGROUND: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in healthy populations have identified variants associated with erythrocyte traits, but genetic causes of hemoglobin variation in children with CKD are incompletely understood.
METHODS: The Pediatric Investigation of Genetic Factors Linked with Renal Progression (PediGFR) Consortium comprises three pediatric CKD cohorts: Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD), Effect of Strict Blood Pressure Control and ACE Inhibition on the Progression of CRF in Pediatric Patients (ESCAPE), and Cardiovascular Comorbidity in Children with CKD (4C). We performed cross-sectional and longitudinal association studies of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 1125 patients.
RESULTS: Children of European (n = 725) or …

Development Of Wireless Pebble For Packed Bed Heat Transfer Measurements And Machine Learning-Aided Accident Diagnosis For Loss Of Flow Accident (Lofa), Dongjune Chang
Nuclear Engineering ETDs
In the first study, a novel wireless pebble for scale experiments is developed, and a simple heat transfer experiment is conducted to determine the difference in the local heat transfer coefficient. Based on the fact that the use of Dowtherm A between approximately 57–87 °C is an alternative to the normal use of the FliBe temperature range of 600–700°C, a new-concept wireless device in a scaled experiment is introduced. This device consists of a 63.5 mm diameter metal shell and contains a built-in customized circuit board and battery for driving temperature measurements and wireless data transfer. The circuit board used …

Accurate prediction of CHF is still a challenging issue in the study of boiling heat transfer. Many factors contribute to the occurrence of CHF and the various trigger mechanisms are proposed to unravel physical phenomena behind CHF. However, those mechanisms cannot cover the multiple primary factors simultaneously and even some of them still remain controversially unresolved. In light of the complexity and difficulty of CHF modelling, hereby an ensemble-learning based framework is proposed to model and predict CHF based on the databank of CHF. Some prior trials have been done for three primary aspects of dominant factors, that is, surface …
An Experimental And Numerical Investigation Of Flow Accelerated Flibe Corrosion, David B. Weitzel
An Experimental And Numerical Investigation Of Flow Accelerated Flibe Corrosion, David B. Weitzel
Nuclear Engineering ETDs
Renewed interest in molten salt reactor technology has brought to light the need for a better understanding of FLiBe corrosion. To this end a flowing FLiBe corrosion test loop was designed to test the flow effects of FLiBe corrosion. The loop consists of a pump, melt tank, and stainless-steel tubing assembly that heats the molten salt to high temperatures and circulates it over test specimens. The experiment has been constructed and has completed initial shakedown testing.
To support the flowing FLiBe experiment, a numerical corrosion model that couples FLiBe electrochemistry, solid metal diffusion, and mass transport was implemented. The model …

Remark On Creatio Ex Nihilo, Intelligent Design And Emergence Philosophy Approaches To Origin Of The Universe, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
It is known that the Big Bang theory was based on the concept of creation ex nihilo, after ancient Greek philosophers. In this paper, we will make few remark on the concept of creatio ex nihilo (as a commentary to a recent paper by Kalachanis, Athanasios Anastasiou, Ioannis Kostikas, Efstratios Theodossious and Мilan S. Dimitrijevi), as well as two other approaches, i.e. Intelligent Design and Emergence Theory by Clayton/Yong. As continuation of our recent paper to appear in forthcoming issue of J. Asia Mathematika, we argue that beside the above three approaches, a new concept called creatio ex-rotatione offers a …
Electrophysiological Mechanisms For Preparing Control In Time, Jacqueline Rosemary Janowich
Electrophysiological Mechanisms For Preparing Control In Time, Jacqueline Rosemary Janowich
Psychology ETDs
Cognitive control is critical in guiding goal-directed behavior, preparing neural resources and adapting processing to promote optimal action in a given environment. According to the Dual Mechanisms of Control theory (Braver, 2012), control can be dichotomized into proactive and reactive modes of control, utilized reciprocally in ahead-of-time preparation versus last-minute, stimulus-evoked reaction. Although a substantial body of work has tested differences between proactive control and reactive control, the underlying assumption of proactive control as a unitary process has not been systematically investigated. Very little is known as to how or when proactive control is initiated, sustained, or implemented.

Adding Semi-Structured Automated Grid Generation And The Menter-Shear Stress Turbulence Transport Model For Internal Combustion Engine Simulations To Novel Fem Lanl Combustion Codes, Brad Montgomery Philipbar
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
The addition of GridPro semi-structured, automated generation of grids for complex moving boundaries for combustion engine applications and the Menter Shear Stress Turbulent Transfer (SST) model are being developed by Los Alamos National Laboratory. The software is called Fast, Easy, Accurate, and Robust Continuum Engineering (FEARCE). In addition to improving the time and effort required to build complex grid geometry for turbulent reactive multi-phase flow in internal combustion engines, the SST turbulence model has been programmed into the Predictor Corrector Fractional-Step (PCS) Finite Element Method (FEM) for reactive flow and turbulent incompressible flow regime validation is performed. The Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes …

Reaction Of Titanium Subhydride With Multiple Passivating Gasses, Erik C. Strobert Jr
Reaction Of Titanium Subhydride With Multiple Passivating Gasses, Erik C. Strobert Jr
Chemical and Biological Engineering ETDs
Sandia National Laboratories has used substoichiometric titanium hydride as a pyrotechnic fuel for decades. Production of titanium subhydride requires partial dehydriding of titanium hydride powder and subsequent chemical passivation to render the resultant bare titanium surface nonreactive and the powder non-pyrophoric. Novel passivation techniques, using a gas other than air, have been suggested in the past but have never been investigated. This work examines the reaction kinetics of titanium subhydride with three passivating agents, nitrogen, oxygen, and propane. These passivation experiments took place under isothermal conditions (420 ˚C) with varied dehydriding and passivation time periods. It was found that the …

Numerical Solution For Solving Procedure For 3d Motions Near Libration Points In The Circular Restricted Three Body Problem (Cr3bp), Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
In a recent paper in Astrophysics and Space Science Vol. 364 no. 11 (2019), S. Ershkov & D. Leschenko presented a new solving procedure for Euler-Poisson equations for solving momentum equations of the CR3BP near libration points for uniformly rotating planets having inclined orbits in the solar system with respect to the orbit of the Earth. The system of equations of the CR3BP has been explored with regard to the existence of an analytic way of presentation of the approximated solution in the vicinity of libration points. A new and elegant ansatz has been suggested in their publication whereby, in …

Towards Helmholtz’S Electron Vortex From Kolmogorov’S Theory Of Turbulence And A New Model Of Origination Of Charge And Matter, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache, Robert N. Boyd
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
In the present paper we discuss: a) how Hilbert’s unification program failed completely, and b) we outline a new electron model based on Helmholtz’s electron vortex and Kolmogorov theory of turbulence. Novelty aspect: we discuss among other things, electron capture event, and von Karman vortex street. We also discuss a new model of origination of charge and matter. This paper is a sequel to a preceding paper on similar theme.
