Struggles of liberation take many forms, are born from many terrains, and conceived by many minds. Historical circumstance engenders the shape revolutions will take as much as it engenders the acts revolutionaries will carry out. In the history of Nicaragua myriad forces have converged to create a state calling out for change; a call which has been answered in various forms. My purpose here is to illustrate the multiple factors which informed lesbian rights movements in Nicaragua in the late 1980s. The Delegitimation Of Land Tenure In Tropical Peten, Guatemala, Charles Clark
Research Papers
Lack of legitimacy of land tenure institutions in the tropical Peten, Guatemala, contributes to the tenure insecurity that encourages rapid colonization, deforestation and forest conversion to agriculture. The author identifies historical periods of delegitimation of land tenure institutions and analyzes social, political and property rights trends which reduced thee effectiveness of property rights in the Peten. Three case studies present the complexities and chaos of land tenure institutions. The first analyzes the unregulated land invasions by small farmers, the second discusses land tenure barriers to protection of indigenous cooperatives, and the third analyzes attempts by the government and non- governmental …

The Legal Regime For Protecting Cultural Property During Armed Conflict, Joshua E. Kastenberg

This article examines the depth of customary international law – that is the accepted practices and norms of the international community – with respect to cultural property, the 1954 Hague Convention and Additional Protocol One, and Department of Defense and Air Force policy. Section I will discuss the evolution toward a customary development of an international law of war to protect cultural properties. This section also notes the basic principles of the law of armed conflict. Section II examines the terms of the 1954 Hague Convention, and Additional Protocol One to the Geneva Convention.
