A Theoretical Analysis Of The Electronic States Of 2nd And 3rd Row Transition-Metal Complexes;-A Spectroscopic Investigation Of D5 And D6 Systems, Howard James Clifford
A Theoretical Analysis Of The Electronic States Of 2nd And 3rd Row Transition-Metal Complexes;-A Spectroscopic Investigation Of D5 And D6 Systems, Howard James Clifford
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
A theoretical and experimental investigation of a number of transition-metal complexes was conducted. The compounds of primary interest were six-coordinated complexes containing group VIII metal ions belonging to the second and third transition series. The investigation involved the synthesis and purification of the compounds, the measurement of absorption and emission spectra and luminescent lifetimes, and the analysis of the observed spectral properties using a crystal-field model based on solutions of large secular determinants. The effects of variations of the Racah parameters on the energylevel diagrams of dn ions (n = 2, 3, ... , 8) in an octahedral crystal …
Immunologic Enhancement Of Murine Sarcoma I Tumor System, Fung-Win Shen
Immunologic Enhancement Of Murine Sarcoma I Tumor System, Fung-Win Shen
Biology ETDs
The purpose of this project was to study the mechanism of imnunologic enhancement in the mouse a t the cellular level. The Sarcoma I (Sal, H-2a) murine tumor system was employed as the model for this study. Sal, indigenous to the A/J (H-2a) strain of mouse, grows progressively in its syngeneic host but is rejected by non-H-2a mice. However, the SaI tumor can be induced to grow progressively in C57BL/KsJ (Ks, H-2d) mice by passive administration of Ks anti-Sal serum at the time of Sal tumor implantation. This phenomenon is termed immunologic enhancement. Hereafter, mice pretreated …

History In The Service Of Politics: A Reassessment Of G. G. Gervinus, Charles E. Mcclelland
History In The Service Of Politics: A Reassessment Of G. G. Gervinus, Charles E. Mcclelland
History Faculty Publications
Gervinus's political and scholarly position in nineteenth-century Germany deserves re-examination. Gervinus was a more complicated figure than some of his recent East German champions allege and a much more interesting scholar than his dismissive contemporaries believed. He was a historian too radical to hold a teaching chair but too popular with his readership to be ignored, and a more and more vociferous Cassandra in an age of increasing accommodation to and optimism about Bismarckian power. Gervinus's life was a passion in the service of democratic liberalism; as a result, he suffered during his life, and his reputation has suffered ever …

Preparation Of Metallic Oxide Aerosols By Vaporization And Degradation Of Organic Compounds, Tom B. Larsen
Preparation Of Metallic Oxide Aerosols By Vaporization And Degradation Of Organic Compounds, Tom B. Larsen
Chemical and Biological Engineering ETDs
Simple, dependable methods for the generation of aerosols are necessary to many forms of research. Specifically inhalation research has a requirement for sub-micron sized insoluble particles.
Two different methods for the production of oxide aerosols from vaporizable compounds were tried. The first method, a modification of the Rapaport-Weinstock generator (R3), consisted of nebulization of a solution into a droplet mist. Next the droplets were vaporized, and condensation nuclei formed from the nonvaporizable impurities in the solution. The vapor was allowed to condense on the nuclei in a relatively large chamber, then the resulting liquid droplet aerosol was dried and converted …
An Experimental Study On Heat Transfer Coefficient For Carbon Laden Gas, Jacob Chi-Kwong Huang
An Experimental Study On Heat Transfer Coefficient For Carbon Laden Gas, Jacob Chi-Kwong Huang
Chemical and Biological Engineering ETDs
Abstract
A complete carbon black pilot plant was employed in this study. Carbon laden gas was produced in a furnace and introduced into the outer pipe of a heat exchanger. Air, at the same time, was introduced into
the inner pipe of the heat exchanger cocurrently with the carbon laden gas. Thus, heat, with temperature difference as driving force, would transfer from the carbon laden gas to the air stream. The temperatures along the two streams were measured by iron-constantan thermal couples and recorded by a multi-reading temperature
recorder. Air supply and fuel (C3H8) supply were introduced into the furnace …
