Interspecific Territoriality In Williamson's And Red-Naped Sapsuckers (Sphrapicus Thyroideus And S. Varius Nuchalis), Richard C. Young
Biology ETDs
Six territories of Williamson's Sapsuckers (Sphyrapicus thyroideus) and eight of Red-naped Sapsuckers (S. varius nuchalis) were mapped and sampled with a line-strip vegetation sampling technique; these data were subjected to discriminant function and 1·rinciple components analyses to investigate similarities and differences letween territories of the two species.
Interspecific overlap in territorial characteristics is great; differences occur primarily in the number of dead trees, and to a lesser extent in the degree of clumping of aspens (Populus tremuloides); S. Thyroideus tends to nest in areas where aspens are more clumped.

This report examines the environmental, economic, and social impacts of leisure-home developments near national forests in the semiarid Southwest. It provides citizens, planners, and decision-makers with methods for natural resource inventory, site evaluation, environmental impact assessment, and policy development aimed at minimizing adverse effects while maximizing community benefits.
Reactions Of 2-Aminopyridine With Picryl Halides, Betty Wright Harris
Reactions Of 2-Aminopyridine With Picryl Halides, Betty Wright Harris
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
The purpose of this investigation was to study the reaction of 2-aminopyridine with picryl halides with the goal of providing evidence in support of a mechanism accounting for the formation of the observed products. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was employed to measure the relative amounts of the various picryl protons in the product mixture, which were assumed to be proportional to the mole percent of the corresponding compounds. 2-Aminopyridine reacted with picryl chloride by a nucleophilic bimolecular substitution reaction to give 2-(N-picrylamino)pyridine as the major product; however, the major product of the reaction of 2-aminopyridine with picryl fluoride is 1-picryl-2-(N-picrylimino)-1,2-dihydropyridine. …

Laser Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography And Plasma Stoichiometric Analysis, Ray Lorain Hanson
Laser Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography And Plasma Stoichiometric Analysis, Ray Lorain Hanson
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
Normal-pulse laser interaction with organic solids was studied. Extensive interaction between the carrier gas and the plasma occurred in the quenching process. When hydrogen was used as the carrier gas, significantly greater quantities of products were detected from the laser pyrolysis of graphite and coal compared to laser pyrolysis in helium. Acetylene was shown to be the principal hydrocarbon product from plasma quenching. Equilibrium product distributions calculated at high temperatures by the minimization of free energy revealed that hydrogen and acetylene were the primary gaseous plasma quenching products for hydrocarbons. Organic solids with oxygen present in the molecule yielded carbon …

Composition And Structure Of A Stress Relieving Removable Epoxy Resin, Cecelia Victoria Krapcha Carter
Composition And Structure Of A Stress Relieving Removable Epoxy Resin, Cecelia Victoria Krapcha Carter
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
The aqueous modification of polyol modified anhydride cured diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A exhibits properties of a brittle solid when subjected to an impulse stress, and properties of a viscous fluid when subjected to a steady state stress. This behavior is markedly different from the nonaqueous system. Early attempts to understand the nature of the change in properties and the physical mechanism involved have not been completely successful. These attempts have typically taken a physical chemistry approach and have not fully investigated the organic nature of the polymer. In order to fully understand a polymer system an important step should …

A Study Of Certain Personality Characteristics And Common Personality Variables Of Twenty-Five Exhibitionists, Robert J. Henley
Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs
The purpose of the investigation was to: (a) identify many of the personality traits of each of 25 exhibitionists, (b) reveal any specific traits common to all 25, (c) find any existing similarities in their developmental histories, and (d) discuss the exhibitionist in terms of the findings.

The Relationship Of Socio-Cultural Variables To Selected Personality Traits Among A Group Of American Indians, Albert B. Hiat
The Relationship Of Socio-Cultural Variables To Selected Personality Traits Among A Group Of American Indians, Albert B. Hiat
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The relationship of socio-cultural variables to selected personality variables was examined utilizing a sample of 141 Pueblo adolescent boys and girls from grade 7 through 12 with a mean age of 14. 9. Each subject was administered the 16PF and the TIB and predictions were made about scores and scoring distributions based on the Pueblo socio-cultural system as described in the anthropological literature. With a few exceptions the sample mean scores and score distributions were not significantly different from those of the norm groups of the tests utilized. A process of biculturation on plural acculturation was proposed to explain the …
The Effects Of Heat And Co-60 [Gamma]-Radiation On The Oocysts Of Eimeria Nieschulzi, George A. Conder
The Effects Of Heat And Co-60 [Gamma]-Radiation On The Oocysts Of Eimeria Nieschulzi, George A. Conder
Biology ETDs
Sporulated oocysts of Eimeria nieschulzi Dieben, 1924, a rat coccidium, were exposed to radiation, to heat, or to both in an effort to attenuate the parasite. In addition, studies were conducted on the excystation capabilities and infectivity of treated sporozoites and on their immunogenic potential. These observations were correlated with the immune response of the host. Treatments had no effect on oocyst structure but altered the excystation process and decreased the percentage of sporozoites capable of excysting. Moderate levels of radiation, of heat, or of both radiation and heat attenuated the parasite, reduced pathological effect (as judged by oocyst discharge …
The Humoral Response Of Inbred Female Rats To Eimeria Nieschulzi Dieben, Lanna Ruth Schoonover Bartholomew
The Humoral Response Of Inbred Female Rats To Eimeria Nieschulzi Dieben, Lanna Ruth Schoonover Bartholomew
Biology ETDs
The humeral response of 32-day-old specific-pathogen-free Fisher 344 strain inbred albino female rats to a 5,000 sporulated oocyst inoculum of Eimeria nieschulzi at postinoculation day 0 (PI+0) was followed for 77 days, as were syngeneic uninfected control rats of the same age. Some of these infected rats were challenged with 50,000 sporulated oocysts at PI+15 and followed through PI+77; some were challenged with 50,000 sporulated oocysts at PI+15 and PI+60 and followed through PI+77; and some were challenged with 50,000 sporulated oocysts at PI+60 and followed through PI+77. Avian Community Structure In The Sangre De Cristo Mountains, New Mexico, Peter H. Pache
Avian Community Structure In The Sangre De Cristo Mountains, New Mexico, Peter H. Pache
Biology ETDs
Three avian communities (spruce-fir, aspen, and pinon-juniper) were studied from April to August, 1973, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, in north-central New Mexico. An additional pinon-juniper community was studied from June to August, 1973, in the Manzano Mountains, east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Emlen technique (1971) was used and evaluated. Transects one mile in length were set-up in the above communities and song and non-song detections were tabulated out to a 412-foot (126 meter) line on both sides of the transect. This census method appears more realistic, in terms of community complexity, than the expansion census methods; however, …
