Because the Indian Health Service does not provide direct services in California, data related to patient care information has been limited. In November 1991, the Indian Health Service addressed this deficiency by presenting a report to the U.S. Congress. This monograph addresses key health status and health care utilization measures from the report. This includes the health effects of the arbitrary and changing nature of federal recognition of those tribes that are eligible for health benefits. Secondary data from the State of California was used in the original report; this summary focuses on vital statistics from California birth and death …

Corporate Culpability Under The Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Jennifer Moore

This Article examines the use of corporate culpability in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and addresses three major questions: In light of the traditional unimportance of culpability in corporate criminal law, is corporate culpability an appropriate concern of the Guidelines? If so, how is corporate culpability best conceptualized? Finally, how do the Guidelines understand corporate culpability, and how close do they come to embodying this most satisfying theory? Part I of the Article discusses the principal reasons why culpability has been important at the trial and sentencing of individual criminals, and argues that similar reasons justify concern with culpability in the …

The papers published in this volume were originally presented in a symposium entitled "The Biology of the Soricidae" at the 67th annual meeting of the American Society of Mammalogists, held in June 1987 at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. When we organized the symposium, we had two goals in mind. First, we wished to assemble speakers currently studying diverse aspects of soricid biology to enable us to survey the breadth of ongoing research on this relatively little-studied group of small mammals. Second, we hoped to stimulate further research on soricids by highlighting problems and raising questions that can …

Technology Development In The Lter Network, David Foster, Emery Boose

Long Term Ecological Research Network

Since its formation in 1979 the LTER Program has expanded to form a network of IS sites. During the course of this development a number of committees within LTER have recommended that NSF support the acquisition of common technological capabilities at the sites in order to enhance integrated studies and to improve information exchange. Major recommendations have covered the areas of GIS, remote sensing, connectivity, data storage and GPS. The National Science Foundation has responded to the recommendations by providing supplemental funding for technology acquisition.
