Maquila Employment And Fertility In Mexicali, Mexico: A Study Of The Dynamics Of Productive And Reproductive Relations, Robert Fiala, Susan Tiano Jun 2003

Maquila Employment And Fertility In Mexicali, Mexico: A Study Of The Dynamics Of Productive And Reproductive Relations, Robert Fiala, Susan Tiano

Research Papers

Data on 193 women working in Mexicali, Mexico during a period of rapid expansion of female employment in Mexico's maquila industry in the mid-1980s is used to examine a model of the dynamics of production and reproduction derived from developmental and critical feminist perspectives on gender and development. Analyses confirm most predictions of the model, suggesting the utility of both perspectives. Results indicate that while fertility shapes the type of employment a woman acquires, type of employment has little effect on subsequent fertility. Unanticipated results regarding education point to the importance of considering elements often discussed under the rubric of …

Raising And Preserving For Review Claims For Expanded Protections For Criminal Defendants Under The New Mexico State Constiution, Bruce Evan Thompson Jun 2003

Raising And Preserving For Review Claims For Expanded Protections For Criminal Defendants Under The New Mexico State Constiution, Bruce Evan Thompson

Student Thesis Honors (1996-2008)

I intend for this paper to lay a basic groundwork for defense counsel in New Mexico to use in the preservation and advocacy of criminal defendants\' state constitutional claims. For reasons that will become clear, New Mexico\'s "interstitial" approach to constitutional jurisprudence permits (and in fact encourages) appellate review …

This qualitative exploratory study attempts to understand and explain aspects of homeless women's experiences. Religion, Faith-Based Community Organizing, And The Struggle For Justice, Richard L. Wood

Sociology Faculty and Staff Publications

Attendees were demanding adequate health coverage for people left out by current health care arrangements and they were angry about that, at a time when …

What Indian Tribes Can Do To Combat Child Sexual Abuse (Issue Paper), Larry Echohawk, Pawnee Indian Tribe, Tessa Meyer Santiago
