When Emotions Flare: Solar Rhythms, Emotions And Cycles Of Political Revolution, Andreas Hernandez, Carolina Zilli Vieira, Alexandra Smith, Rebecca Olson
Geography and Environmental Studies Faculty Publications
Revolutions are among the most transformative events in human history. Analyzing 395 revolutionary episodes from 1900 to 2014, we find that major waves cluster around solar maxima - periods of intensified geomagnetic activity. Drawing on biomedical research linking geomagnetic disturbances to cardiovascular and stress regulation, and thus to emotional states, we propose that solar cycles modulate the affective ecologies within which revolutions arise. Solar activity may accelerate, shape, and amplify revolutionary cycles by heightening emotional climates and tipping fragile systems toward mass mobilization. This reframes revolutions as planetary events - entanglements of political conflict, embodied emotion, and cosmic …

A Novel Analysis On The Perception Of Physical Environmental Quality: An In-Depth Study Comparing The Neutrosophic Likert Scale With Score Function And The Classic Likert Scale - Statistical Analysis Of Data From A Restaurant Survey, Seher Bodur, Serpil Kaya, Selçuk Topal
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
There are studies examining the quality of the physical environment in the restaurant industry. However, these studies have only been conducted using Likert scale. Since the neutrosophic scale has not been used in the restaurant industry before, it is considered to be an important gap. For this reason, it is aimed to investigate the perceptions of physical environmental quality in restaurants by using Likert and neutrosophic scales for the first time. By applying Exploratory Factor Analysis, evidence is presented that a single factor adequately incorporates both scales, thus optimising the assessment procedure. Their consistency and reliability in assessing environmental perceptions …

A Statistical Comparison Study Of A Real-Life Survey Data On Procedural Justice Via Neutrosophic Likert Scale With Score Function And Classical Likert Scale, Seher Bodur, Selçuk Topal, Hacı Gürkan
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The present study aims to examine the distinctions between Likert and Neutrosophic scales in their ability to measure organizational behaviors and the many dimensions of organizational justice. To evaluate procedural justice, 6 questions measuring procedural justice from the Learning Environment Questionnaire were used. Compared to the Likert scale, the Neutrosophic scale exhibited greater decision weights and a more distinct expression of participants' ideas due to its ability to capture more complex replies. The reliability of both scales was found to be high, as indicated by satisfactory Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The results of the exploratory factor analysis indicated that both scales …

The Social Matter Of Opioids: Glitches In Immunity Beyond The Human, Nathan A. Leach
The Social Matter Of Opioids: Glitches In Immunity Beyond The Human, Nathan A. Leach
American Studies ETDs
The Social Matter of Opioids: Glitches in Immunity Beyond the Human examines the contemporary opioid crisis and its relationship to capitalism, imperialism, and biomedicine. This dissertation also considers how the twin processes of crisis and racialization relate to how human-opioid entanglements perform and transgress normative anthropological assumptions of difference. Through theories of biopolitics, Black feminism, queer of color critique, and psychoanalytic insight, I argue for a more critical account of the entanglement of humans with opioids where processes of capitalist and imperial crisis produce novel forms of social ontology. I substantiate this by examining speculative tissue economies, interspecies relationality, draconian …

“Mexico Has Spilt American Blood Upon American Soil!” The Role Of The Mexico-U.S. Border In The Promotion Of American Nationalism, 1821-1920, Jon M. Williams Phd
Sociology ETDs
International borders not only serve as the edge of a nation-state's sovereign territory, but they also aid in informing popular conceptions of its national identity. This study examines how the Mexico - U.S. border served as a spark for episodes of American nationalism from 1821-1920. In examining three historical periods whereby the border was forming, disrupted, or challenged, I demonstrate how borders serve as sources, both symbolically and physically for the expressions of American nationalism. I utilize inductive qualitative discourse analysis of American actors embedded along the border, in Mexico, or serving as political leaders, to sample some of the …

Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs
Abstract
This study is a reflective analysis of the discursive construction of the social studies and the teaching of history from medieval scholasticism, through Enlightenment humanism, and into our posthumanist landscape. As an exploration of the foundations of Western thought, with an emphasis on humanism as it has historically affected construction of the social studies, this investigation focuses on theorists, praxis, curriculum development, and teacher identity. My research examined the pedagogical and curriculum choices for the teaching of history along with the intersection of the humanities and humanism from the Enlightenment through the criticalities of the 20th century, and into …

Exploring How Funds Of Knowledge Is Utilized Among Teacher Educators In A Teacher Preparation Program Focusing On Arts Integration And Language Diversity, Gabrielle H. Pretto Ph.D
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
In our current educational climate, teaching for social justice has become increasingly difficult. Teacher educators are faced with certification rules that prioritize test scores over teaching ability, scripted curriculums, and the limited understandings about differences related to culture, class, and race. This study examined how social justice teachings were sustained and enhanced through a Funds of Knowledge (FOK) learning approach. Case study was utilized and guided by the following research questions: (1) What are the FOK of teacher educators participating in the TEALi program? (2) In what ways are the FOK of teacher educators integrated or utilized in their university …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This research focuses on the examination of public records and their potential to deliver inclusive service to the native populations of Ucayali, a key difficulty in the administration of public services in varied and culturally rich areas. The study tackles a gap in the current literature, where standard techniques do not effectively examine how transparency and sufficiency of services influence inclusive service quality. Using methodologies based on neutrosophic set theory, the research presents a novel way to examine the efficacy and accessibility of public registry services in a particular cultural setting. The findings reveal that the combination of Management Transparency …

Analysis Of The Evolution Of Social Competence In Students Through Research Methods Based On Neutrosophic Sets, Huberto Tito Hinostroza Robles, María Teresa Cabanillas López, Fidel Denis Huasco Espinoza
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The present study investigates the evolution of social competence in students through research methods based on set theory and the application of neutrosophic sets. The central question lies in how to accurately assess the development of social skills in educational contexts, given that traditional tools do not always capture the complexity of students' interactions and perceptions. The importance of this topic lies in the need for evaluation methods that faithfully reflect the growth in social competencies, vital for the comprehensive development of students in increasingly diverse and demanding educational environments. Despite the abundance of studies on social competencies, there is …

Applying Neutroalgebra And Neutrosophic Sentiment Analysis To Assess Last Mile Logistics Impact On Customer Experience, Rosa María Criollo Delgado, Julio Cesar Vidal Rischmoller, Sergio Marcelo Palomino Criollo
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The aim of the paper entitled Neutrosophic Sentiment Assessment Using Neutroalgebra Applied to Last Mile Impact on Customer Experience explains the assessment of how factors related to last mile logistics impact cus-tomer perception. While there are many articles and research studies related to last mile logistics, the body of such articles simply focuses on repeating ordinary scope quantitative and qualitative analysis with an urban fo-cus. This paper is intended to be an innovative contribution to the existing body of knowledge by ‘catching the wave’ of the current state of algebra and employing neutrosophy to develop a better understanding and model-ing …

Neutrosophic Set Theory In E-Commerce Evaluation: A Novel Approach To Sales Strategy Optimization, Benjhall Jordan Camargo Vilcapoma, Valia Ximena Huaman Coras, Rosa María Criollo Delgado
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In practical terms, the most accurate term to use is “language economy”, which translates as contemporary languages. It is possible to infer that language interacts indirectly with people’s lives, influencing their way of socializing and lifestyle. The common population maintains constant contact with various foreign languages, instinctively collecting elements, which favors the development of the person. However, it is logical to propose the inclusion of language economy in scientific and cultural theoretical debates at a general level. It will be an example of building connections between theory and practice. Language, in its primary role of communication, contains the concepts of …

Exploring The Associations Between Perceived Parent Communication And Involvement, Community Violence Exposure During Adolescence, And Subsequent Risk For Alcohol Use Disorder In Young Adulthood, Alexandra Toscova Tonigan
Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs
This dissertation explores the dynamics between parenting practices, family structure, community violence exposure, and adolescent development through three interrelated studies. Collectively, these papers address how family environments shape adolescent experiences and outcomes, including alcohol use disorder (AUD). Using data from the Add Health study, this dissertation offers insights for researchers and clinicians supporting youth in vulnerable contexts. Chapter 1 examines the influence of average perceived communication and involvement, as well as differences in these behaviors between parents, on adolescent community violence exposure. This study critiques the conventional focus on averages, emphasizing the impact of discordant parenting. Chapter 2 investigates how …

Triangular Fuzzy Quadripartitioned Neutrosophic Set And Its Properties, Tanmoy Chatterjee, Surapati Pramanik
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The main objective of the paper is to hybridize the triangular fuzzy number and the quadripartitioned neutrosophic set and develop the triangular fuzzy quadripartitioned neutrosophic set. The triangular fuzzy numbers have great potential to express uncertainty systematically. So, the combination of the triangular fuzzy numbers and quadripartitioned neutrosophic sets is an intelligent mathematical tool that will be a helpful mathematical tool for decision-making. We define some operations on the triangular fuzzy quadripartitioned neutrosophic sets such as union, intersection, and complement. We establish some important theorems on operations like union, intersection in between three triangular fuzzy quadripartitioned neutrosophic sets in an …

Enhanced T2nn-Logtodim-Topsis Framework For Assessing Vocational College Students' Employment Quality Using Type-2 Neutrosophic Numbers, Ziyan Wang, Xifeng He
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
With the ongoing development of vocational education in our country, the employment quality of vocational college graduates has emerged as a crucial metric for assessing the overall strength and effectiveness of these institutions. Establishing a robust employment quality evaluation system for vocational colleges not only complements and enhances their employment-related efforts, but also represents a critical step toward improving the broader educational and teaching practices within these institutions. Currently, the construction of such evaluation systems tends to focus primarily on professional education and teaching. While this approach has undoubtedly contributed to improving the quality of vocational education, it often overlooks …

The Quadruple Helix Of Strategic Alliances And Its Application For Community Development In Las Acequias De Atrisco, Jorge Garcia
Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal
In today’s society, the development of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) is imminent yet, large segments of the world remain marginalized. I contend that peer-to-peer and inter-institutional networks can be used to connect local with global systems to close this divide. Using today’s virtual and digital technologies the gap can be bridged using collaboration platforms using different knowledge systems that do not simply replicate the same information. The suggested model represents forming strategic alliances for information sharing and collaboration to empower and support local knowledge systems. The examples discussed show our efforts toward an inclusive approach with communities in full partnership, …

Myth And Monument In Old Town Albuquerque: Southwest Pietà And The War Of Presiding Histories, Eric Castillo
Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal
Luis Jiménez’s Southwest Pietà (1984) intended to combat cultural amnesia that obscured Native Americans’ and Mexicans’ contributions to the state. Jiménez’s Pietà sought to counter the iconography that shaped New Mexico’s colonialist heritage. But Old Town Albuquerque shrouds Native American and Mexican contributions to the region. Albuquerque’s public art has often been deployed as a wedge to write and rewrite narratives about land inhabitants, but the city’s public art tells a powerful story about race and place in New Mexico. This essay explores the socio-historical battle of land memorialization in Old Town Albuquerque and provides a geo-racial perspective about the …

This article provides for only a marginal update to the institutional context and complexity of Chican@ Studies in the US, so that we might better understand the need for comprehensive institutional history and its impact on the field as a discipline and as an Alter-Native curriculum framework for schooling. The question answered in this essay is “what is the 21st century institutional presence of Chicana & Chicano Studies in the schools?” focusing primarily on higher education, historicizing, contextualizing, and politicizing it. It describes the number and locations of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, administrative units, and, in part, relationships to …

Organizing And The Revitalization Of American Catholicism, Richard L. Wood
Organizing And The Revitalization Of American Catholicism, Richard L. Wood
Sociology Faculty and Staff Publications
American Catholicism today struggles to sustain its longtime character as a truly “public religion”—that is, a religious tradition with a vital presence within the public sphere in the US. Reinvigorating Catholicism in the US will require both internal renewal and new approaches to public life, both of which will require continuity with the deep tradition and significant reorientation of ecclesial dynamics. This paper argues that specific, faith-based community-organizing practices can help renew the public voice of Catholicism. In adopting such practices and inflecting them through Catholic commitment to theologically coherent processes of leadership formation, American Catholicism can reinvigorate parish life …
