Elizabeth P. Simpson: Menu For Success, Betty Huning Hinton

UNM Historical Documents

This biography of Elizabeth Parkinson Simpson was written because of her accomplishments in a generation that coincides with the development of the University of New Mexico. She was Chairperson of the Home Economics Department at the University of New Mexico from 1918 until 1952 when she retired.

Her imprint on the young women who were trained in her Home Economics Department will never be forgotten, nor will her contributions to the growth of the state of New Mexico. Teachers trained in her field returned to their homes throughout the state to pass on that training to others.

Of course, autonomy is not absolute. This Article will define those classes of cases in which autonomy can be trumped by other interests. The Article will next determine whether the class of cases defined by Dr. Callahan fits within that definition. Finally, …

This study is an assessment of the feasibility of applying managed health care techniques to programs funded by the Indian Health Service (IHS). This assessment is the first of a two-phase effort. Phase I examines four sites to determine health care needs and priorities, identify available resources, examine health care alternatives, and match alternatives to health care needs. Due to cuts in funding, and P.L. 93-638, which is the Amended Self-Determination Act, IHS is preparing to transfer a large portion of the responsibilities for Indian health care to the tribal authorities. One of the intermediary types of health care provision …
