Convergence Functions And Their Related Topologies, Darrell C. Kent May 1963

Convergence Functions And Their Related Topologies, Darrell C. Kent

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

A convergence function is a correspondence between the filters on a given set S and the subsets of S which specifies which filters converge to which points of S. This concept is defined to include types of convergence which are more general than that defined by specifying a topology on S. Thus a convergence function may be regarded as a generalization of a topology.

The Geology Of The South Mountain Area, Bernalillo, Sandoval, And Santa Fe Counties, New Mexico, Tommy B. Thompson May 1963

The Geology Of The South Mountain Area, Bernalillo, Sandoval, And Santa Fe Counties, New Mexico, Tommy B. Thompson

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

South Mountain is approximately 30 miles northeast of Albuquerque in the southern end of the San Pedro-Ortiz porphyry belt. It is a Tertiary monzonite laccolith that intrudes the Permian Abo and Yeso Formations and, in places, the Permian Glori eta Sandstone. The base of the laceolith lies on the Abo except in the southeastern part where it overlies the Mes eta Blanca Member of the Yeso. The incompetence of the Yeso appears to nave allowed the monzonitic magma to spread laterally throughout the stratigraphic interval up to the Glorieta Sandstone which was more resistant and broken only locally by the …

Paleoecology Of The Varved Rita Blanca Lake Deposits, Hartley County, Texas, Douglas W. Kirkland May 1963

Paleoecology Of The Varved Rita Blanca Lake Deposits, Hartley County, Texas, Douglas W. Kirkland

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The Rita Blanca lake deposits in the northwestern part of the panhandle of Texas have been dated as Blancan age by vertebrate remains. During maximum development, Rita Blanca lake probably had an elliptical shape with a length of about 6 miles and breadth of about 3 1/2 miles.

The subject of this report is the petrology and paleontology of a 4 1/2-foot laminated clay bed of Blancan age low in the exposed Rita Blanca lake deposit of Hartley County, Texas. The main purpose is to determine the paleoecology, in particular the nature of the climatic regime which prevailed during deposition …

Stratigraphic Analysis Of The Queen And Grayburg Formations, Southeastern Chaves County, New Mexico, James L. Mcswain May 1963

Stratigraphic Analysis Of The Queen And Grayburg Formations, Southeastern Chaves County, New Mexico, James L. Mcswain

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The area of study lies in southeastern Chaves County, New Mexico, and is a part of the northwest shelf or backreef province of the Permian Basin. The area encompasses all or parts of Tps. 10 through 15 S., Rs. 24 through 31 E.

The Queen and Grayburg formations comprise the lower part of the Artesia group, an upper Guadalupian sequence of Permian shelf rocks above the San Andres formation and below the Ochoan series. The Queen-Grayburg sequence has an average thickness of about 600 feet and is correlative with the Goat Seep reef at the margin of the Delaware Basin, …

Self-Diffusion In Single-Crystal Tungsten And Diffusion Of Rhenium Tracer In Single-Crystal Tungsten, Robert L. Andelin May 1963

Self-Diffusion In Single-Crystal Tungsten And Diffusion Of Rhenium Tracer In Single-Crystal Tungsten, Robert L. Andelin

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

Self-diffusion in single-crystal tungsten and diffusion of rhenium tracer in single-crystal tungsten have been measured over the temperature range 2660°C to 3230°C by the direct sectioning technique. The initial radioactive layer of tungsten and rhenium tracers was produced on the diffusion samples by bombardment with 9.0-MeV deutrons. It was shown that the initial radioactive layer satisfactorily approximated the boundary-condition requirements of the one-dimensional diffusion equation. The tracers observed in determining the diffusion coefficients were W185, Re183, and Re184. Diffusion heating of the samples in high vacuum was accomplished by an induction-heating arrangement which included …

A Proposed Modification Of The Available Momentum Region In Thomas-Fermi Theory, John F. Barnes Feb 1963

A Proposed Modification Of The Available Momentum Region In Thomas-Fermi Theory, John F. Barnes

Physics & Astronomy ETDs

The statistical model of the atom, first propounded by Fermi and Thomas has proved a most useful approximation to the self-consistent field method in calculating electron distributions and fields in atoms. Because of its relative simplicity, it has found wide application as a means of predicting properties of free atoms and of solids. The original theory has been the subject of many modifications and refinements, some of which are reviewed in this paper.

Properties Of Radar Augmentation For Missile Targets., Warren T. Randall Feb 1963

Properties Of Radar Augmentation For Missile Targets., Warren T. Randall

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

This thesis presents a study made to investigate problems involved in the design of certain radar augmentation devices. The task arose from the requirement to add realistic simulation of radar reflection characteristics to drone targets during an evaluation of the performance capability of the Falcon missile, conducted by Hughes Aircraft Company at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. In addition to performing a mathematical analysis of the problem, the author who asked to design and build equipment which would present a visual demonstration of the reflection activities. The necessary definition of radar properties and a description of the test equipment …

An Approach To Correlate Pulsed Radar And Photographic Data, Nasir Ahmed Jan 1963

An Approach To Correlate Pulsed Radar And Photographic Data, Nasir Ahmed

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory Lunar Program, which is supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has two major projects underway. These are Ranger and Surveyor. The Ranger Project is in the flight stage whereas Surveyor is still in hardware development. The equipment of Ranger 3, 4, and 5 spacecrafts includes a radar altimeter to obtain radar reflection data, and a vidicon camera to obtain close-up pictures of the moon's surface. The data obtained in these flights will thus be available for analysis and comparison using the techniques outlined in this thesis.
