A Study Of The Relationships Between The Performance Of College Freshmen In Mathematics And Selected Factors In Their Academic Background, Richard J. Ronan
A Study Of The Relationships Between The Performance Of College Freshmen In Mathematics And Selected Factors In Their Academic Background, Richard J. Ronan
Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs
Various societal influences have been gradually changing the quantity and quality of education required of today's youth. More college graduates are needed and they must be more highly trained. To help solve this problem, colleges have instituted new courses and the secondary schools have adopted new curricula. This study was designed to check the effectiveness of one of these curricula, modern mathematics, as well as certain allied factors which might impair the student's ability to be successful in it at the secondary or college level.

Studies On 4-Hydroxycoumarin Anticoagulants Part I: The Reversible Removal Of Carbon 2 Of 3-Substituted-4-Hydroxycoumarins Part Ii: The Synthesis And Urinary Excretion Rates Of The Enantiomers Of Warfarin-4-14c And Marcumar-2-14c, Lloyd Allen Goding
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
The hydrolytic removal and subsequent reinsertion of carbon 2 of a series of 3-substituted-4-hydroxycoumarins has been accomplished. The removal of carbon 2 presents an effective synthetic route to o-hydroxyketones with complex side chains. o-Hydroxyketones when condensed with alkyl carbonates gave good yields of 4-hydroxycoumarins. When this was carried out with ethyl carbonate-carbonyl-14C a radio label was inserted in position 2. It was shown that this decarboxylation-carboxylation cycle did not involve racemization of an optically active α-carbon on a side chain in position 3. This method was used to prepare the enantiomers of Marcumar-2-14C(3-α-ethyl-benzyl-4-hydroxycoumarin). The enantiomers of …

Theoretical Analysis Of The Vibrations And Rotations Of The B¹[Sigma][Mu] State Of The Hydrogen Molecule, Sandra Zink Moody
Theoretical Analysis Of The Vibrations And Rotations Of The B¹[Sigma][Mu] State Of The Hydrogen Molecule, Sandra Zink Moody
Physics & Astronomy ETDs
Theoretical calculations of the rotational-vibrational constants of the B1Σ+u state of H2 were made using the Dunham analysis and by fitting equations to energy eigenvalues. The potential energy function for the nuclei used in the calculations was computed by W. Kolos and L. Wolniewicz using the variational technique. The power series used in the Dunham analysis made use of Stirling's central difference interpolation polynomial. The equilibrium separation Re found from the Born-Oppenheimer potential is 2. 429165 atomic units, differing from the Kolos-Wolniewicz value of 2.4288. Adiabatic corrections were taken into account through a …

Geology Of The Southern San Mateo Mountains, Socorro And Sierra Counties, New Mexico, Steven Eugene Farkas
Geology Of The Southern San Mateo Mountains, Socorro And Sierra Counties, New Mexico, Steven Eugene Farkas
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
The San Mateo Mountains of south-central New Mexico consist of a series of uplifted blocks of Tertiary volcanic rocks which cover an area approximately 45 miles long by 20 miles wide. Faulted blocks of older, Paleozoic and Precambrian, rocks and post-volcanic intrusives are found along the eastern and southern borders of the range. Only late Paleozoic, Pennsylvanian and Permian sediments occur in the mapped area. More than 7,000 feet of Tertiary volcanic rocks unconformably overlies all older rocks, divided into the Lower Volcanic and Datil Groups. The lower Volcanic Group is composed of a series of deeply altered andesites, tuffaceous …

Stratigraphy And Structure Of The Northwestern Guadalupe Mountains, New Mexico, Klyne Headley
Stratigraphy And Structure Of The Northwestern Guadalupe Mountains, New Mexico, Klyne Headley
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
The northwestern Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico are part of a large regional cuesta that slopes gently northeast. The crest of the northern escarpment rises abruptly to more than 2,200 feet above Pinon Valley.
The rugged west-facing escarpment has been carved in an uplifted fault block composed entirely of Permian sedimentary rocks having an aggregate thickness of about 1,700 feet. Dark-red to buff siltstone, gray dolomite, and white to gray gypsum compose the Yeso Formation. Conformably overlying these rocks is the dark-brown limestone and dolomite sequence of the San Andres Formation. The Glorieta Sandstone which usually occurs between these …

Response Prediction For The Oso-G Satellite Solar Neutron Instrument By Matrix Methods., John Coalmer Conklin
Response Prediction For The Oso-G Satellite Solar Neutron Instrument By Matrix Methods., John Coalmer Conklin
Physics & Astronomy ETDs
Properties of the University of New Mexico’s solar neutron instrument for use on the NASA 0S0-C satellite were investigated. A sensor model was developed by use of two computer codes. First, the total efficiency of the converters was calculated by a simulation code with a resulting total efficiency at 100 Mev of approximately two per cent of which four-fifths was carbon recoil contribution.
Second, geometry properties of the instrument were provided by a Monte Carlo program, with maximum geometry efficiency equaling about fourteen per cent. These were combined to give a total response profile for the instrument which was expressed …
