Cultural Eclipse: The Effect On The Aboriginal Peoples In Manitoba, Kwesi Baffoe
Cultural Eclipse: The Effect On The Aboriginal Peoples In Manitoba, Kwesi Baffoe
Tribal Law Journal
Cultural eclipse is a phrase that I coined to describe the inter-relationship between the Aboriginal and European cultures as seen by an observer in space. It depicts the scene of two cultures initially rotating separately in time through the Universe. The European culture slowly drifts towards the Aboriginal culture and partially covers it without consuming it. This paper explores one of the ways indigenous culture is damaged during this "union".

Prints And Printmakers In Viceregal Mexico City, 1600-1800, Kelly Donahue-Wallace
Prints And Printmakers In Viceregal Mexico City, 1600-1800, Kelly Donahue-Wallace
Art & Art History ETDs
Although woodcuts and engravings documented viceregal life and reflected Mexican artistic achievement, they are generally absent from colonial art historiography. This lacuna is the result of persistent biases affecting print scholarship worldwide against art tainted by multiplicity, mechanical interference, labor divisions, and popular audiences. The near total lack of published information concerning the artists and their efforts has also discouraged research on Mexican prints. This dissertation is, therefore, a documentary study of the printmaking profession in the viceregal capital between 1600 and 1800. Its goal is to examine how colonial block-cutters and engravers trained, worked, and understood their art.

Book Review: Rethinking The American Constitutional Tradition: National Dimensions In The Formulation Of State Constitutions, Christian G. Fritz
Book Review: Rethinking The American Constitutional Tradition: National Dimensions In The Formulation Of State Constitutions, Christian G. Fritz
Faculty Scholarship
Founding the Far West is an important scholarly contribution to nineteenth-century American history. However, its analysis of how California, Oregon, and Nevada became states identifies a dynamic that fails to capture the tradition of American constitution-making. Only when state constitution-making is more widely studied can the dimensions of that tradition be understood in ways that will integrate the meaning of the state constitutional experience. So too, the recent interest in state constitutions as documents having an independent source of constitutional authority may curb the ingrained habit of studying American constitutional law from "the top down" and encourage scholars to bring …
Background Of New Mexico Hispanic Literature, Francisco A. Lemeli
Background Of New Mexico Hispanic Literature, Francisco A. Lemeli
SHRI Publications
The present study attempts to present key aspects of the overall ambiance from whence emerged a large and diverse body of Hispanic writings in New Mexico. Socio-cultural factors are emphasized within their respective historical context and numerous examples are provided to substantiate the assertions, including linguistic terminologies influenced by the commingling. The central focus is to target self-referentiality as a means to reach an early literary consciousness that is at times in opposition with mainstream New Spain or what was commonly known as accounts or cr6nicas from Tenochti tlan or Mexico city. The articulation of such a consciousness is demonstrated …
