Reconciliation Framework: Response To The Report Of The Truth And Reconciliation Commission Taskforce, Jonathan M. Pringle
Reconciliation Framework: Response To The Report Of The Truth And Reconciliation Commission Taskforce, Jonathan M. Pringle
Publications
Released in February 2022, the Reconciliation Framework is designed for non-Indigenous archivists in Canada who manage Indigenous holdings in their repositories, from acquisitions to outreach and all processes in-between. The document positions itself well amongst other related international standards that advocate for a reciprocal, ongoing relationship between archival institutions and the Indigenous communities they purport to represent and serve. The journey to final publication reaches back not only years and decades but also centuries, considering it was borne out of the aftermath of the terrible history of residential schools in North America. Recent formal calls to action demanded redress through …

Seed funding from HSLIC provided an opportunity to investigate how we could preserve dynamic web pages within the UNM Digital Repository while maintaining the look and feel of the original material. With our funding, we purchased a 1-year subscription to Archive-IT Pro (with technical support). This subscription allowed us to preserve the context and content of the HSC Newsroom, The Pulse, and other digital-born objects, meeting the creators where they were rather than conforming to the Repository's current structure.

Measuring The Success Of A Project Echo Implementation: Results From An International E‑Delphi Study, Perrin Moss, Nicole Hartley, Dana Newcomb, Trevor Russell
Project ECHO Bibliography
There is an increasing global need for organisations to utilise high-quality telementoring models to support workforce development and mentorship. Project ECHO is a validated telementoring model that has been adopted by over 700 organisations globally across multiple sectors. To date there is no consolidated list of success indicators by which organisational teams can assess or benchmark their implementation of Project ECHO across sectors. An e-Delphi methodology was adopted to facilitate a comprehensive means of identifying indicators that could be used to assess the implementations of Project ECHO globally. This paper presents a consolidated framework of indicators that support teams to …

Knee Mechanics In The Golf Swing And The Potential Risk For Injury To The Anterior Cruciate Ligament And Other Structures: A Review, Jessica A. Nelson, Richard M. Wardell, Dustin L. Richter, Robert C. Schenck
Western Journal of Orthopaedics
The aim of this study is to review the current literature on knee biomechanics during the golf swing, focusing on angles, forces, and moments seen in both the lead and trail limbs. The golf swing is described in terms of the backswing, downswing, and follow-through. Studies consistently show that the directional torque changes in multiple planes, and that both lead and trail knees face significant forces throughout the swing. The high rotational forces and repetitive loads experienced by golfers’ knees pose a potential risk for injury. Fatigue failure to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has been postulated to occur from …

Foundations Of Intramedullary Femoral Shaft Fracture Fixation: Avoidance, Recognition, And Management Of Common Pitfalls, Christopher Kurnik, Jory Wasserburger, William Curtis, Tyler Chavez
Western Journal of Orthopaedics
Intramedullary nailing is an effective treatment of femoral shaft fractures. However, this procedure has several common complications and technical problems that can interfere with full recovery in some patients. The purpose of this review article is to expand on the literature with the authors’ own experiences to summarize the following common complications of femoral nailing: missed injuries, suboptimal surgical timing, malreduction, reaming errors, implant insertion errors, pain-management problems, and implant removal errors. Strategies are also identified to help avoid and manage these complications.

Reaming Errors In Intramedullary Nailing, Kathryn C. Helmig, Samer Kakish, Thomas A. Decoster
Western Journal of Orthopaedics
Reaming for intramedullary implants has biomechanical and biologic benefits. However, there are multiple potential pitfalls in the reaming process. Common errors in reaming for intramedullary implants include: over-reaming or under-reaming the intramedullary canal, reamer incarceration, using dull or narrow-fluted reamers, and poor technique. Being aware of these potential problems with reaming helps surgeons avoid intraoperative issues altogether or diagnose their causes as they arise, decrease complications, and improve efficiency in the operating room.

Western Journal of Orthopaedics
A 76-year-old female previously diagnosed with flexor tenosynovitis, presented to the clinic complaining of right wrist pain and numbness in her fingers. She was seen again after a rheumatologic workup, which was negative. It was noted that there was thenar atrophy when compared to the contralateral side. She was then scheduled for carpal tunnel release surgery. During surgery, a large area of synovitis was encountered. A radical synovectomy was performed and this tissue was sent for culture and pathology. The findings were most consistent with age-related amyloidosis. One week after surgery, the patient was contacted by telephone and reported that …

Emancipatory Nursing Praxis: Applying The Social Justice Theory To Implement Harm Reduction In Prison Substance Use Disorder, Veronica A. Holmes
Emancipatory Nursing Praxis: Applying The Social Justice Theory To Implement Harm Reduction In Prison Substance Use Disorder, Veronica A. Holmes
Theoretical Foundation in Advanced Practice Nursing
The United States has the highest rate of incarceration in the world. Inmates suffer from chronic health conditions and substance use disorder (SUD) at a higher rate than the rest of the population yet, often do not receive sufficient medical care during incarceration. The theory of Emancipatory Nursing Praxis (ENP) calls for the integration of social justice within the profession of nursing. This theory provides a framework in which nurses can awaken and serve as agents of change, working to ameliorate issues of systemic oppression. Harm reduction refers to policies, programs, and strategies aimed at reducing the negative health, economic, …

Nursing Burnout During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Noreen Rizvi
Theoretical Foundation in Advanced Practice Nursing
Nursing burnout continues to rise as the COVID-19 pandemic amplifies environmental stressors in the workplace. This paper explores the application of Callista Roy's adaptation model in preventing nursing burnout during the pandemic using four modes of adaptation: rolefunction, interdependence, physiological/physical, and self-concept or group identity. The presented solution to alleviate nursing burnout examines the implementation of Roy's adaptation model through proposed resiliency initiatives, leadership and management modifications, and state legislature regulation. These interventions aim to reduce anxiety, moral distress, and compassion fatigue, along with increasing support for nurses.

Building On Historical Chicana And Chicano Movement Pedagogies To Teach New Mexican Manita And Manito Epistemologies To Knowledge And Power Curators, Keith E. Sanchez
Chicana and Chicano Studies ETDs
ABSTRACT
Through the examination of historical place-based, culturally relevant, and responsive Chicana/o pedagogies, as exemplified in the formative 1969 El Plan de Santa Barbara, The Crusade for Justice, and la Academia de la Nueva Raza, the purpose of this project is to create a curricular sketch considering contemporary environmental and economic challenges facing Manita/o/Hispanic/Chicana/o student populations of New Mexico. If its ideals are to be generationally galvanized and sustained, every social movement must establish a semblance of Paideia, a space of grassroots educational initiative, where a marginalized community’s epistemologies are exhumed, reinvigorated, and passed to the next generation. This …

Energy Conservation For Food Growers With Chronic Fatigue, Barrett Harding, Mary Thelander-Hill
OT Research and Scholarship
Food-growers recovering from post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2, including chronic fatigue syndrome or post-exertional malaise, can benefit from occupational therapy’s distinct value that allows farmers to overcome barriers and continue in their esteemed profession. It is the primary concern of the occupational therapy practitioner (OTP) to introduce adaptive equipment, compensatory strategies, and energy conservation techniques that minimize the stress and physical exertion required by each farming activity. Emerging research shows that rest may be the more profitable and practical long-term solution when post-exertional malaise is present, and the OTP’s invaluable role provides benefit through maintaining and restoring farming occupations while promoting …
