Coyote Waits Manuscripts
This is another edited manuscript draft of Coyote Waits, probably from early 1990. The manuscript is 353 pages long and is heavily edited by both Harper and Row editors and Tony Hillerman. This draft appears to be a copy of manuscript draft (B), showing most of the same editing marks (though draft (B) does contain some added story text that does not appear manuscript draft (C)). However, this draft includes a style sheet, a list of personal names and a list of unconfirmed geographical locations used in the story as part of the front matter.

This report describes a series of six studies on cancer in American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) women, with a particular emphasis on cancer of the breast and cervix. Data from the Indian Health Service (IHS) inpatient data system was used to generate estimates of incidence of cancer among AI/AN populations. Additionally, breast cancer rates among Indian women in Arizona and New Mexico were compiled from extensive chart review of the New Mexico Tumor Registry and the IHS Inpatient Data System. Study of the performance of the health care system for cancer screening in women suggest that the major deficiency …

Managing For Program Quality In A Decentralized Health Care Organization, Unknown
Native Health Database Full Text
A major issue for the Indian Health Service (IHS) in the 1990s is how best to assure quality of its health programs - both those that are delivered through federally-operated, but still very decentralized system of service units as well as the increasing number of programs operated by the Tribes. The purpose of this document is to describe the Indian Health Service IHS approach to managing for quality in the 1990s. The authors delineate the IHS Quality Assurance System -including its definition of quality, the principles on which the system is based, and how the system is intended to operate. …

Climate Variability And Ecosystem Response: Opportunities For The Lter Network, Long Term Ecological Research Network
Climate Variability And Ecosystem Response: Opportunities For The Lter Network, Long Term Ecological Research Network
Long Term Ecological Research Network
Unusual ecosystem responses are frequently driven by meteorological events. The frequency and magnitude of these events and responses can be characterized through Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER). The LTER Climate Committee identifies four issues to be considered in future investigations:
(1) the need to clarify terms and definitions used in discussing climate variability,
(2) the importance of recognizing the various time and space scales of climate variability and ecosystem response,
(3) the need to expand data beyond dependence on traditional summaries of temperature and precipitation, and
(4) the value of insights gained from examining similarities and dissimilarities among climate episodes and …
