UNM Annual Reports
VITAL ACADEMIC CLIMATE* by Brian Foster, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs A great university engages students and faculty fully in important ideas and issues ... not just to learn about them, but to take them apart and put them back together, to debate, deconstruct, resist, reconstruct and build upon them. Engagement of this sort takes concentration and commitment, and it produces the kind of discipline and passion that leads to student and faculty success and satisfaction in their studies, research, performance, artistic activity and service. It is also the kind of activity that creates a solid, nurturing spirit of community. …

Perceptions Of Water Quality And Supply In The Unincorporated Areas Of Bernalillo County, Bureau Of Business And Economic Research
BBER Publications
In 2001, the Bureau of Business and Economic Research surveyed 5,000 households in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County to solicit information on residential water system types (city or well); residents' perceptions of water quality, safety, taste, and availability; perceptions of water testing, education, and regulation; perceptions regarding the cost of water; and residents' use of in-house water purification systems. The survey also collected household demographic variables. The survey findings are organized by topic and geographic area. The survey instrument is reproduced in appendix A. Data are displayed in tables and a map.

Randomness And Optimal Estimation In Data Sampling, Florentin Smarandache, Mohammad Khosnevisan, Housila P. Singh, S Saxena, Sarjinder Singh
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
The purpose of this book is to postulate some theories and test them numerically. Estimation is often a difficult task and it has wide application in social sciences and financial market. In order to obtain the optimum efficiency for some classes of estimators, we have devoted this book into three specialized sections: Part 1. In this section we have studied a class of shrinkage estimators for shape parameter beta in failure censored samples from two-parameter Weibull distribution when some 'apriori' or guessed interval containing the parameter beta is available in addition to sample information and analyses their properties. Some estimators …

Eight social science, humanities, and legal scholars discuss a wide range of perspectives on civil rights (edited by John Paul Ryan). The conversation traverses civil rights stories in the U.S. and abroad since 1968, the relationships between immigration and civil rights, the enforcement of civil rights and the role of the courts, and the impact of September 11 on civil rights in the future. Co-authored with John Paul Ryan, Angelo Ancheta, Erik Bleich, Tim Borstelmann, Gloria Browne-Marshall, Chai Feldblum, Anita Hodgkiss, & John D. Skrentny

Regional Variations Of Kachina Iconography In Eastern Pueblo Rock Art, Dara Leigh Saville
Geography ETDs
This research addresses the problem of identifying patterns of regional variation in the kachina iconography of the Eastern Pueblo Province. Data produced in this study is also used to reevaluate the Rio Grande Hypothesis, which proposes a Jornada Mogollon origin for Pueblo kachinas. The author examines a sample of kachina images that are present in the rock art of the Rio Grande Valley and Eastern Mountain region of central New Mexico. The sample includes kachinas from the Lyden site on Black Mesa, Frijoles Canyon of Bandelier National Monument, Piedras Marcadas Canyon of Petroglyph National Monument, Cerro Indio at San Acacia, …
