Icare: Fostering A Welcoming Environment, Kimberly Holm
M. S. in Project Management
In support of the hospital’s mission, the icare: Fostering a Welcoming Environment project is aimed to improve the patient experience by cultivating a warm, welcoming environment across settings. Through the facilitation of an icare Learning Lab training session, staff will be inspired to recognize every member’s impact – regardless of role – on the patient experience and will increase their knowledge and skills to enhance their interactions with others. Deliverables for this project include the creation and facilitation of the icare Learning Lab training sessions, template for bi-monthly communications, and additional hospital-wide communications. Building Of The Future Jahanshahi Home, Abigail Jahanshahi
M. S. in Project Management
The final goal of this project is the construction of a custom home with at least four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and a minimum of three thousand five hundred square feet at a cost not exceeding eight hundred fifty thousand dollars in Stillwater, Oklahoma for the Jahanshahi family. However, the project will be split into three phases. Phase two encompasses preliminary designs and will require the …
Physical Therapy Facilities Demolition And Relocation, Peter Girard
Physical Therapy Facilities Demolition And Relocation, Peter Girard
M. S. in Project Management
The project is the demolition of the building that held our physical therapy department and the construction of a new space. I selected this project due to the size and complexity of the project. The ability to write the project charter, build a WBS, and follow the course recommendations have made a smooth process. The resulting space is a new and patient friendly physical therapy area that will provide a great service to our community.

Recruiting And Retaining Millennials In Today’S Higher Education Workplace, Mark Geuther
M.S. in Leadership
Millennials have become the largest generational cohort in the workplace today. For employers including, higher education, to succeed in recruiting and retaining millennials employers must identify what this group is looking for in an employer. The purpose of this paper is to research and outline ways for colleges and universities to attract and retain the best and brightest by offering a competitive compensation and a workplace environment that meets the needs of the millennial generation. Examining The Correlation Between Leadership Engagement And The Formation Of A Lean Culture In Organizations, Dagmar Vlahos
M.S. in Leadership
This research entailed exploring the correlation between leadership engagement and the formation of an organizational lean culture. Additionally, it evaluated the impact leaders have on employee adoption of a lean culture and sustainability. Inspiration for this project resulted from former struggles experienced while establishing lean cultures. Initial research focused on understanding organizational culture, lean leadership, employee engagement, and then expanded to explore if leadership engagement affects the formation of a lean culture, employee adoption and sustainability. Overall, this research discerned that leadership engagement is an integral element not only in the formation of a lean culture but also in employee …

Global-Local-Comparison Approach: Understanding Marine Mammal Spatial Behavior By Applying Spatial Statistics And Hypothesis Testing To Passive Acoustic Data, Hilary Kates Varghese, Kim Lowell, Jennifer L. Miksis-Olds
Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping
Technological innovation in underwater acoustics has progressed research in marine mammal behavior by providing the ability to collect data on various marine mammal biological and behavioral attributes across time and space. But with this comes the need for an approach to distill the large amounts of data collected. Though disparate general statistical and modeling approaches exist, here, a holistic quantitative approach specifically motivated by the need to analyze different aspects of marine mammal behavior within a Before-After Control-Impact framework using spatial observations is introduced: the Global-Local-Comparison (GLC) approach. This approach capitalizes on the use of data sets from large-scale, hydrophone …

Faculty Publications
Brown carbon (BrC) consists of particulate organic species that preferentially absorb light at visible and ultraviolet wavelengths. Ambient studies show that as a component of aerosol particles, BrC affects photochemical reaction rates and regional to global climate. Some organic chromophores are especially toxic, linking BrC to adverse health effects. The lack of direct measurements of BrC has limited our understanding of its prevalence, sources, evolution, and impacts. We describe the first direct, online measurements of water-soluble BrC on research aircraft by three separate instruments. Each instrument measured light absorption over a broad wavelength range using a liquid waveguide capillary cell …

Teaching With Quantitative Data In The Social Sciences At The University Of New Hampshire: An Ithaka S+R Local Report, Patricia Condon, Eleta Exline, Louise Buckley
Faculty Publications
This exploratory study investigated the teaching practices of social science instructors at the University of New Hampshire who engage with undergraduate students using quantitative data in the classroom. The participants interviewed teach both general and discipline-specific data concepts as academic, work, and life skills. Primary challenges discussed by the participants that students face in engaging with these topics are understanding math and statistical concepts, learning new software and computing skills, limited prior exposure to data, and lack of retention of content from earlier courses. Participants addressed challenges in several ways in order to lower barriers to learning, including finding, vetting, …

The Role Of Leadership With Compassion Fatigue In Caregiving Professions, Ashley Kitchell
M.S. in Leadership
Compassion fatigue is an issue that has plagued caregiving fields for years. The burnout, stress and lack of support has been a topic of discussion that is ongoing due to constant research and interest on the ever-popular topic. Though there is much research, the problem still exists. This paper looks at how management and leadership play a role on compassion fatigue, coping strategies and skills needed to help mitigate the symptoms, and what more is needed. Through my research, I found that the most influential piece regarding compassion fatigue in caregiving professions relies heavily on the management styles and workplace …
