Most Granite Staters Protected Against Covid-19 By Vaccine Or Recent Infection 3/1/2022, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Reported COVID-19 cases among Granite Staters have fallen abruptly since January. Currently, one-quarter say they have tested positive for COVID since the pandemic began. Six in ten adults say they are vaccinated and boosted, another 17% are vaccinated but not boosted, and 22% are not vaccinated at all. Overall, seven in eight Granite Staters likely have some protection against COVID-19 through vaccination or recent infection. Virtually no unvaccinated adults plan to get vaccinated, most frequently citing a lack of belief in the vaccine's effectiveness. Only four in ten children in the state aged 5-17 are vaccinated against COVID-19 and almost …

Transforming 3d-Printed Mesostructures Into Multimodal Sensors With Nanoscale Conductive Metal Oxides, Julia E. Huddy, Md Saifur Rahman, Andrew B. Hamlin, Youxiong Ye, William J. Scheideler

New Hampshire EPSCoR

Additively manufactured (AM) three-dimensional (3D) mesostructures exhibit geometrically optimal mechanical, thermal, and optical properties that could drive future microrobotics, energy harvesting, and biosensing technologies at the micrometer to millimeter scale. We present a strategy for transforming AM mesostructures into 3D electronics by growing nanoscale conducting films on 3D-printed polymers. This highly generalizable method utilizes precision atomic layer deposition (ALD) of conducting metal oxides on ultrasmooth photopolymer lattices printed by high-resolution microstereolithography. We demonstrate control of 3D electronic transport by tuning conformal growth of ultrathin amorphous and crystalline conducting metal oxides. To understand the scaling of 3D electrical properties, we apply …

Faculty Publications

Pastures and rangelands are a dominant portion of global agricultural land and have the potential to sequester carbon (C) in soils, mitigating climate change. Management intensive grazing (MIG), or high density grazing with rotations through paddocks with long rest periods, has been highlighted as a method of enhancing soil C in pastures by increasing forage production. However, few studies have examined the soil C storage potential of pastures under MIG in the northeastern United States, where the dairy industry comprises a large portion of agricultural use and the regional agricultural economy. Here we present a 12-year study conducted in this …

Bipartisan Support For Nh Marijuana Legislation; Most Consider Legislature's Redistricting Maps Unfair 2/25/2022, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

More than two-thirds of Granite Staters support proposed legislation to legalize marijuana, allowing it to be sold in state Liquor stores. While only one-third of New Hampshire residents have seen the legislative redistricting maps proposed by the State Legislature, nearly all Democrats and Independents who have seen them consider them to be unfair, while even Republicans are closely divided. Residents are closely divided on another bill that would eliminate required yearly automobile inspections.

Granite Staters Wary Of Getting Involved In Ukraine; Biden Job Approval Underwater In Nh 2/24/2022, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

As the crisis in Ukraine explodes, a majority of New Hampshire residents want to use diplomacy and sanctions to pressure Russia and less than half back sending weapons or aid to Ukraine and few want to send American troops. Amid the crisis, approval of Biden's handling of foreign affairs and his overall job performance has improved somewhat since January, but a majority continue to disapprove of his handling of the economy.

Commentary: The Pragmatic Consequentialism Of Justice Breyer, John M. Greabe Feb 2022

Commentary: The Pragmatic Consequentialism Of Justice Breyer, John M. Greabe

Law Faculty Scholarship

[Excerpt] "Justice Stephen Breyer’s announcement of his intention to retire at the end of the Supreme Court’s current term provides occasion to contrast his approach to judging with the very different approach of the court majority he leaves behind. The contrast is frequently explained in partisan terms: Justice Breyer is a “liberal” who was appointed by a Democratic president (Bill Clinton), whereas the majority is “conservative,” having been appointed by three different Republican presidents (George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump).

The use of partisan labels to describe the different approaches to judging employed by the court’s two …
