Approval Of Scott Remains Strong In Vermont But Residents Divided On A Sixth Scott Term 4/24/2025, Unh Survey Center
Approval Of Scott Remains Strong In Vermont But Residents Divided On A Sixth Scott Term 4/24/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Nearly two-thirds of Vermont residents approve of Governor Phil Scott's performance, including majorities of both Republicans and Democrats. However, Vermonters are equally divided on whether they want Scott to seek a sixth term in 2026, though less than one-third believe Scott does not deserve to be re-elected if does choose to run. On issues recently discussed by the State Legislature, a plurality of Vermonters support introducing ranked-choice voting for presidential primaries, while a majority support ending the state's use of for-profit prisons. Nearly half of Vermonters say that housing, taxes, or the cost of living is the most important problem …

Ayotte Popular, But Higher Negatives Than Past Governors; Housing Still Most Important Problem In Nh 4/24/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Half of New Hampshire residents approve of Governor Kelly Ayotte's performance early in her term, similar to recent governors, but a higher percentage disapprove compared to her predecessors. Housing remains the most important issue facing the state. On legislation under discussion in Concord, Granite Staters oppose cuts to the state University System, are divided on making all students in the state eligible for Education Freedom Accounts, and support a ban on puberty blockers for children.

Mainers Divided In Assessment Of Mills, But Is Preferred Challenger To Unpopular Collins In 2026 Senate Race 4/24/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Mainers are divided in their assessment of Governor Janet Mills. A majority of Mainers approve of Mills' performance as governor, but the partisan gap is wide: nearly all Democrats approve of her while almost all Republicans disapprove. More than two-thirds of Mainers believe incumbent Senator Susan Collins does not deserve to be re-elected in 2026, including a majority of Republicans. Mainers generally oppose state prison policy concerning transgender inmates and oppose two bills being considered by the legislature to loosen vaccines requirements in Maine schools.

U.S. Births Up Slightly But Remain Near 40-Year Lows, Kenneth M. Johnson
U.S. Births Up Slightly But Remain Near 40-Year Lows, Kenneth M. Johnson
Carsey Publications
In this brief, author Kenneth Johnson reports that new National Center for Health Statistics data for 2024 show a slight increase in annual births and the birth rate from 2023. Even with the uptick, both the number of births and the birth rate were near 40-year lows, and there is no evidence of a significant increase in fertility rates in the new data.
The long-term impact of the fertility decline has been substantial. There would have been 11.8 million more births in the last 17 years had 2007 fertility patterns been sustained through 2024. The expense and limited availability of …

Anchoring ‘Neo-Hahnian Outdoor Education’ In The Cold War Era: A History Of Character Building In The Outward Bound Movement, Jayson Seaman
Anchoring ‘Neo-Hahnian Outdoor Education’ In The Cold War Era: A History Of Character Building In The Outward Bound Movement, Jayson Seaman
Faculty Publications
The invitation to comment on a foundational early article from the JAEOL provided a welcome opportunity to engage with Andrew Brookes’s trilogy of ‘neo-Hahnian outdoor education’ critiques (Brookes, 2003a, 2003b, 2023). In this article, I approach outdoor education’s character building ideology by using archival and secondary sources to situate its evolution in four periods corresponding with major geopolitical and cultural movements: (1) 1941–1945 when Outward Bound (OB) was established; (2) 1946–1952 when Hahn exported OB from his perch at Gordonstoun; (3) 1953–1967 when OB expanded to the U.S. and replicated globally, and (4) 1968–1976 when human potentialism replaced muscular Christianity …

Amending Regulation D’S Accredited-Investor Definition To Allow Natural Persons To Opt Out Of Unwanted Regulatory Protections, John Orcutt
Law Faculty Scholarship
Everyone can invest in the heavily regulated registered (or public) securities market, but the more lightly regulated unregistered securities markets are more restricted. The most important unregistered securities market for capital-raising purposes is Rule 506 of Regulation D, which has grown to become the United States’ largest capital-raising market. Far more capital is raised each year in Rule 506 offerings than registered offerings, and the Rule 506 market is where many of the country’s highest-growth (and highest-return) entrepreneurial companies sell their securities. But most Americans are excluded from investing in the Rule 506 market because it is fundamentally restricted to …
