Journal Club Revisited: Teaching Evidence-Based Research And Practice To Graduate Students In A Professional Degree Program, Rosemary M. Caron
Faculty Publications
A Journal Club can be a learning exercise that allows for the critique and pursuant analytic discussion of empirical studies, and encourages the public health, health administration, or health policy student to better understand how evidence-based research contributes to evidence-based practice. The purpose of this paper is to describe a learning exercise that implements the Journal Club to evaluate strengths and limitations of relevant research studies and their potential influence on evidence-based practice. This learning exercise was developed to increase discipline-specific knowledge and improve analytical thinking to form and communicate a well-researched and reasoned critique about current peer-reviewed research. Specifically, …

Indigital’S Cyber Security Roadmap, Robert Brown
M. S. in Project Management
It has been made a high priority through Executive Orders, FCC rulings, and Department of Homeland Security to support the Cybersecurity of critical infrastructure. Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) or 9-1-1 Call Centers and those telecommunication service providers supporting them are included as critical infrastructure. INdigital is one of these telecommunication service providers. INdigital is expecting to be at the leading edge within the industry for compliance and reporting of sytstems integrity. INdigital needs to build a security compliance roadmap for future implementation and education of employees to industry trends, potential vulnerabilities, mitigation strategies, and mitigation plans.

The Value Of Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare For Adolescent Substance Users With Comorbid Conditions, Michael A. Gass, Thomas Wilson, Brett Talbot, Anita Reithoffer Tucker, Melissa Ugianskis, Nicholas Brennan
Faculty Publications
The damage inflicted on our society by mental health and substance use issues is reaching epidemic proportions with few signs of abating. One new and innovative strategy for addressing these comorbid issues has been the development of outdoor behavioral healthcare (OBH). This study compared the effectiveness of three post-acute adolescent substance use situations: OBH, treatment as usual (TAU), and no structured treatment (NST). The simulated target population was 13-17 years old with comorbid substance use and mental health issues. When costs were adjusted for actual completion rates of 94% in OBH, 37% in TAU, and $0 for NST, the actual …

Nrpt: Learning From The Past And Moving Forward: Response Challenges From Severe Weather Or Tsunamis To Shared Trust Resources And Mission Responsibilities, Coastal Response Research Center (Crrc)
Coastal Response Research Center
On April 23-25th, 2019, CRRC and DPP co-sponsored a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Regional Preparedness Training (NRPT) Workshop at the USEPA facility in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The workshop, titled “Learning from the Past and Moving Forward: Response* Challenges from Severe Weather or Tsunamis to Shared Trust Resources and Mission Responsibilities”, focused on preparedness, planning and improving response to an extreme weather event or natural disaster.
This was the fourth workshop in a series of NRPT events, the goal of this workshop is to provide focused discussion regarding lessons learned from hurricane and natural disaster …

The New Hampshire Coastal Flood Risk Summary – Part 1: Science provides a synthesis of the state of the science relevant to coastal flood risks in New Hampshire. Specifically, this document provides updated projections of sea-level rise, coastal storms, groundwater rise, precipitation, and freshwater flooding for coastal New Hampshire. This information is intended to serve as the scientific foundation for the companion New Hampshire Coastal Flood Risk Summary - Part II: Guidance for Using Scientific Projections and is intended to inform coastal land use planning and decision-making.

What To Do With Dams: An Assessment Of Public Opinion To Inform The Debate In New Hampshire, Natallia Leuchanka Diessner, Catherine M. Ashcraft, Kevin H. Gardner, Lawrence C. Hamilton
Carsey Publications
Many of New Hampshire’s dams are reaching the end of their lifespan and require expensive maintenance or removal in order to meet safety standards. While engineers and public officials struggle with the scale of the challenge surrounding various dam management alternatives, including removal, what does the New Hampshire public think? In this brief, authors Natallia Leuchanka, Catherine Ashcraft, Kevin Gardner, and Lawrence Hamilton present results from statewide surveys in New Hampshire that explore public views about dam removal. They report that a majority of respondents in three Granite State Polls prefer to remove dams when the alternative is to keep …

Role-Play Simulations And System Dynamics For Sustainability Solutions Around Dams In New England, Natallia Leuchanka Diessner, Cuihong Song, Catherine Ashcraft, Weiwei Mo
New Hampshire EPSCoR
Research has shown that much of the science produced does not make its way to the decision-making table. This leads to a gap between scientific and societal progress, which is problematic. This study tests a novel science-based negotiation simulation that integrates role-play simulations (RPSs) with a system dynamic model (SDM). In RPSs, stakeholders engage in a mock decision-making process (reflecting real-life institutional arrangements and scientific knowledge) for a set period. By playing an assigned role (different from the participant’s real-life role), participants have a safe space to learn about each other’s perspectives, develop shared understanding about a complex issue, and …
The Storm Time Response Of The Inner Magnetosphere During Coronal Mass Ejection And Corotating Interaction Region Driven Storms, Samuel Bingham
The Storm Time Response Of The Inner Magnetosphere During Coronal Mass Ejection And Corotating Interaction Region Driven Storms, Samuel Bingham
Doctoral Dissertations
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and corotating interaction regions (CIRs) are the most common drivers of geomagnetic storms, influencing the dynamics of the inner magnetosphere and the response of the radiation belts. The main outer radiation belt acceleration mechanisms are inward radial diffusion and local acceleration by chorus waves, while magnetopause shadowing and by pitch angle scattering by electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves and other wave modes are the main true loss mechanisms. The link between these mechanisms and the solar interplanetary structures is the ring current response to these drivers. The different characteristics of the two solar wind drivers, CMEs …
