Scalable Web Service Development With Amazon Web Services, Patrick Russell Mcelhiney
Scalable Web Service Development With Amazon Web Services, Patrick Russell Mcelhiney
Master's Theses and Capstones
The objective of this thesis was to explore the topic of scalable web development, and it answered the question, “How do you scale a website to handle more traffic at peak times without wasting resources?” This is important research to any web company that has issues with rising costs as demand for their website increases. It would be wise for every online business to be prepared for more web traffic, before it occurs, without spending the budget of a multi-million user web company in low traffic periods. The last thing you want is an error as your customer base starts …
Analysis Of Uncertainty In Underwater Multiview Reconstruction, Igor V. Kozlov
Analysis Of Uncertainty In Underwater Multiview Reconstruction, Igor V. Kozlov
Master's Theses and Capstones
Multiview reconstruction, a method for creating 3D models from multiple images from different views, has been a popular topic of research in the eld of computer vision in the last two decades. Increased availability of high-quality cameras led to the development of advanced techniques and algorithms. However, little attention has been paid to multiview reconstruction in underwater conditions. Researchers in a wide variety of elds (e.g. marine biology, archaeology, and geology) could benefit from having 3D models of seafloor and underwater objects. Cameras, designed to operate in air, must be put in protective housings to work underwater. This affects the …
Biophysical Properties Of An Antifreeze Protein And The Effects Of Ionic Liquids On The Model Protein Gb1, Korth Wade Elliott
Biophysical Properties Of An Antifreeze Protein And The Effects Of Ionic Liquids On The Model Protein Gb1, Korth Wade Elliott
Doctoral Dissertations
Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) are a unique class of protein characterized by their ability to depress the freezing point of water sufficient to prevent the formation of ice crystals by adsorbing to the surface of ice crystals. This unique ability allows organisms (e.g. plants, fish, insects, etc.) which live in extremely cold climates to survive. Because of these proteins’ ability to prevent and slow the rate of ice crystal formation, they have great potential in the application of cryopreservation in medicine, agriculture and food science. Antifreeze proteins have been known for over five decades, however, their exact mechanism of action is …
Dysregulation Of O-Linked Β-N-Acetylglucosamine (O-Glcnac) Cycling Supports Tumorigenicity Of Cancers Of The Female Reproductive Tract, Nicole Jaskiewicz
Dysregulation Of O-Linked Β-N-Acetylglucosamine (O-Glcnac) Cycling Supports Tumorigenicity Of Cancers Of The Female Reproductive Tract, Nicole Jaskiewicz
Doctoral Dissertations
Hyper-O-GlcNAcylation of proteins is a subsequent artifact of metabolic disorder and is indicative of many cancers, including cancers of the female reproductive tract. While the incidence of most cancer types has been declining in the U.S., endometrial and cervical cancer remain among the most common cancers diagnosed in women. Diabetic women have a 2-3 fold increased risk of developing endometrial cancer, and tend to have more aggressive cases of cervical cancer, however, the molecular aspects of these risks are not fully understood. This study investigated the alteration of cellular O-GlcNAcylation of proteins as the potential mechanistic connection between diabetes and …
Teaching Population Health: Innovations In The Integration Of The Healthcare And Public Health Systems, Rosemary M. Caron, Anne M. Hewitt, Julie H. Carmalt, Edmond A. Hooker
Teaching Population Health: Innovations In The Integration Of The Healthcare And Public Health Systems, Rosemary M. Caron, Anne M. Hewitt, Julie H. Carmalt, Edmond A. Hooker
Faculty Publications
Population health is a critical concept in healthcare delivery today. Many healthcare administrators are struggling to adapt their organization from fee-for-service to value delivery. Payers and patients expect healthcare leaders to understand how to deliver care under this new model. Health administration programs play a critical role in training future leaders of healthcare organizations to be adaptable and effective in this dynamic environment. The purpose of this research was to: (a) engage current educators of health administration students in a dialogue about the best practices of integrating the healthcare and public health systems; (b) identify the content and pedagogy for …

Taking Credit: Case Study Of A Uv System To Expand Methods Of Virus Inactivation And To Quantify The Enhanced Public Health And Sustainability, Tyler Kane
Master's Theses and Capstones
Public water systems (PWSs) must provide 4-log virus inactivation to comply with EPA’s Surface Water Rule (LT2ESWTR) or Ground Water Rule (GWR), while also complying with the Disinfection Byproduct Rule (Stage 2 DBPR). A UV dose of 186 mJ/cm2 meets this inactivation requirement, but increases energy use, capital and operation costs, and causes technical challenges for validating UV performance. The result: many water systems resort to solely using chemical disinfectants, increasing their risk of disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation. This required UV dose is based off previous studies on the wavelength response adenovirus at 254nm, where traditional low pressure (LP) lamps …
Conflict Resolution In Popular Film, Linda M. Fogg
Conflict Resolution In Popular Film, Linda M. Fogg
Master's Theses and Capstones
Studies on media content have been focused for decades on the frequency of violence, types of aggression, and sex roles. These studies have largely focused on children’s media, especially Disney, with few investigating the presence of violence in adult media as it is perceived as less harmful. Although these are all important topics of research, they have failed to incorporate the larger picture of media's portrayal of conflict resolution. This study aims to answer the questions: how is conflict resolution portrayed in popular films and does it change based on the MPAA rating? using popular movies from 2016. The ratings …
Investigation Into The Application Of Ozonation For Reuse Of Secondary Wastewater Effluent, Daniel James Farley
Investigation Into The Application Of Ozonation For Reuse Of Secondary Wastewater Effluent, Daniel James Farley
Master's Theses and Capstones
This research investigated the ability of ozone to degrade through oxidation a selection of organic micropollutants in untreated and ion exchange pretreated secondary wastewater effluent. Initially, a six-month sampling program was completed to characterize the variability in the water quality of the Wervershoof wastewater treatment plant’s secondary effluent used in this research. Bench scale experiments were completed to determine the ozone uptake and demand in demineralized water, tap water, IX treated secondary wastewater, and secondary wastewater effluent. Using data from the bench scale experiments, low, medium and high ozone dosages were identified based upon ozone residual for secondary wastewater and …

Record Optimism About Personal Finances Among Nh Residents But Deep Partisan Differences Remain 8/27/18, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
The percentage of New Hampshire adults who say they are better off financially than a year ago and anticipate being better off in a year are at or near all-time highs. More than two-thirds foresee good times in the next 12 months in the state economy. However, deep partisan differences remain: Republicans and Independents are much more optimistic than Democrats, who are more pessimistic about the long-term national outlook than during the Great Recession.
