Parental Bonds And Mental Health Treatment In Adolescence: An Analysis Of Disparities By Race And Sex, Jonni Norman
Parental Bonds And Mental Health Treatment In Adolescence: An Analysis Of Disparities By Race And Sex, Jonni Norman
Master's Theses and Capstones
Awareness of adolescent mental health issues has been rising since the start of the twenty-first century. While certain barriers to adolescent mental health treatment have been alleviated due to the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), racial barriers to treatment still exist. Many studies on racial and gendered disparities consider barriers to mental health treatment, such as stigma. Few examine the role of parents and parental bonds with children as key variables in understanding disparities in treatment. This thesis utilizes data from the 2019 National Survey of Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), a cross-sectional nationally representative survey, for the …
Avian Functional Diversity Response To Changes In Forest Structure And Degradation In Northern New England, Michael Christopher Thompson
Avian Functional Diversity Response To Changes In Forest Structure And Degradation In Northern New England, Michael Christopher Thompson
Master's Theses and Capstones
Exploitative forest harvesting has led to widespread economic degradation of forests across the northeastern United States. Tree species composition and structure vary across degradation categories, which may lead to differences in wildlife communities and the ecosystem functions wildlife provide. Avian communities in particular respond quickly to changes in habitat, are easy to survey, and contribute to a variety of important ecosystem functions. Here, we investigated the relationship between economic degradation and avian functional diversity focusing on the ecosystem functions of seed dispersal, nutrient cycling, and pest control. We found that avian functional diversity responded to degradation in a unimodal manner …
Creating A Supportive Environment For Older Adults In China ——Exploring Factors Associated With The Need For Home Modifications Based On A Cross-Sectional Survey In Central China, Jiajing Li, Bei Wu, Jing Wang
Creating A Supportive Environment For Older Adults In China ——Exploring Factors Associated With The Need For Home Modifications Based On A Cross-Sectional Survey In Central China, Jiajing Li, Bei Wu, Jing Wang
Faculty Publications
A supportive home environment is critical to the safety and quality of life of older adults. Home modification is an effective way to build a supportive home environment for older adults’ aging in place. However, there is a lack of knowledge on older adults’ need for home modifications in China. We conducted a cross-sectional survey in three provinces of China (Hubei, Hunan, and Henan) using stratified and cluster sampling methods in 2021. A total of 5485 older adults aged 60 and over were included. The outcome variables were: need for home modifications, level of need, and type of modification needed. …

Interpreting Parenting Plans As Contracts, William B. Reingold Jr.
Interpreting Parenting Plans As Contracts, William B. Reingold Jr.
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
When parents are divorced or separated, a parenting plan serves as a legal instrument to govern the means by which they raise their children. Most parents are able to compromise and reach an agreed-upon parenting plan without resorting to a trial or court intervention. These agreed-upon parenting plans are, in a manner of speaking, contracts that these parents must abide by. But too often parenting plans are not treated or considered in the same way we perceive ordinary contracts. They should be. This essay examines the interplay between courts reviewing agreed-upon plans, the best interest standard, and basic contract interpretation.
The Potential Of Tropical Montane Cloud Forest Epiphytes To Acclimate To A Drier Microclimate., Emily Anders
The Potential Of Tropical Montane Cloud Forest Epiphytes To Acclimate To A Drier Microclimate., Emily Anders
Master's Theses and Capstones
Tropical Montane Cloud Forests (TMCF) are characterized by frequent cloud immersion and host a rich community of canopy epiphytes. Epiphytes rely on atmospheric inputs of water, making them susceptible to reductions in cloud immersion. We used an experimental cloud reduction experiment in a Peruvian TMCF to examine the potential of five functional groups of vascular epiphytes (orchids, ferns, shrubs, bromeliads, and succulents) to acclimate to reduced cloud immersion via plasticity in morphological and physiological traits related to water use, water storage, and productivity. Complementary data for vascular and nonvascular epiphyte growth and dieback collected over a 3-year period provided additional …

Noaa Great Lakes Harmful Algal Bloom Communication Preparedness Workshop Report, Crrc, Noaa
Coastal Response Research Center
On January 17-18, 2023, the CRRC and NOAA’s DPP co-sponsored a virtual workshop titled “Great Lakes Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Communication Preparedness Workshop”. This workshop was a focused discussion on HAB preparedness and response capabilities across the federal government and state agencies. The specific objectives for this workshop were: 1) Ensure effective coordination and communication across local, state, and federal governments, and other relevant entities; 2) Compile and review existing plans, policies and procedures about effectively communicating HAB threats, including benthic and nuisance blooms, across relevant agencies; 3) Determine the points of contact (POC’s) responsible for HAB event preparedness and …

The Blueberry Gall Midge Complex And Its Specialist Parasitoids, Monique Michele Raymond
The Blueberry Gall Midge Complex And Its Specialist Parasitoids, Monique Michele Raymond
Master's Theses and Capstones
The cosmopolitan blueberry gall midge complex causes serious damage to the terminal vegetation of blueberry plants. The nature of their infestation, paired with prolonged periods of abundance, requires an integrated pest management approach. Of all known parasitoids present in the system, members of the subfamily Platygastrinae are the only oligophagous clade specialized against true gall midges. In this study, we present the results of blueberry gall midge and platygastrid surveys in high- and low-bush blueberry crops in the northeastern and southeastern United States, along with an identification key, with emphasis on blueberry parasitoid Synopeas species to facilitate their identification.

Multidimensional Comparison Of Underwater Soundscapes Using The Soundscape Code, Dylan C. Wilford, Jennifer L. Miksis-Olds, S. Bruce Martin
Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping
The soundscape of a given habitat is a product of its physical environment, human activity, and presence of soniferous marine life, which can be used to understand ecosystem processes, habitat quality, and biodiversity. Shallow coral habitats are hotspots of biodiversity and marine life. Deep-sea coral environments, in comparison, are generally poorly understood. Four soundscapes along the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and one soundscape from the Great Barrier Reef were quantified to explore how differences in habitat, depth, and substrate manifest acoustically. Comparisons were made between (1) deep, cold-water and shallow, warm-water coral reefs and (2) deep-sea coral and sandy …

Biden Ahead In Nh Primary Despite Tepid Support, Not Appearing On Ballot 11/17/2023, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Despite the fact he will not appear on the January 23rd ballot, nearly two-thirds of likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire say they plan to write-in President Joe Biden. Only a quarter of likely Democratic primary voters say they would be enthusiastic if Biden is the nominee, but Biden's rivals currently present little threat as author Marianne Williamson is unpopular and few know much about Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips or expect him to become a serious contender. Granite Staters largely view Biden unfavorably and disapprove of his performance as president, but former President Trump is even more unpopular and …
Recent Demographic Trends Have Implications For Rural Health Care, Kenneth M. Johnson
Recent Demographic Trends Have Implications For Rural Health Care, Kenneth M. Johnson
Carsey Publications
In this brief, Senior Demographer Kenneth Johnson reports nonmetropolitan (rural) America gained population between April of 2020 and July of 2022. In the preceding decade, rural areas lost population, both because more people left rural areas than moved to them and because births just minimally exceeded deaths. In contrast, the recent, modest rural population increase occurred because a significant net migration gain more than offset the growing excess of deaths over births fostered by the pandemic. That rural migration was strong enough to produce population growth is especially surprising given that deaths outnumbered births—in part due to the pandemic—in 85 …

This document provides guidance for the addition of acoustic observations to the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) through implementation of the Ocean Sound Essential Ocean Variable (EOV). The goal of this Ocean Sound EOV Implementation Plan is to define a baseline of how ocean sound observations are collected, analyzed, managed and reported. The Implementation Plan has been produced by a Committee of the International Quiet Ocean Experiment (IQOE), a project co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) and the Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO).

Migration Sustains New Hampshire’S Population Gain: Examining The Origins Of Recent Migrants, Kenneth M. Johnson
Migration Sustains New Hampshire’S Population Gain: Examining The Origins Of Recent Migrants, Kenneth M. Johnson
Carsey Publications
In this brief, Senior Demographer Kenneth Johnson reports that New Hampshire’s population continued to grow in 2021 and 2022 because a migration gain of 18,300 was enough to offset the excess of deaths over births. More people died (28,700) than were born (24,900) in New Hampshire in the past two years. Covid certainly contributed to this loss, but annual deaths already exceeded births in the state for several years before the pandemic.
Recently released Census data underscore the mobility of New Hampshire’s population and provide insights into the origin of the migrants to the state. Only 41 percent of the …
