The Person Experiences Interview Survey: A Measure Addressing Ableism In Mental Healthcare For Patients With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Micah Peace Urquilla
Institute on Disability
Many People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) also have mental health needs requiring the support of mental health service providers, yet they may experience barriers to full engagement in their care due to ableism. Ableism is a kind of prejudice that impacts People with IDD in many parts of life, even in mental health care. This article proposes how an adapted Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM) can be a response to ableism, with an impact at three distinct yet interrelated levels that reflect the parties involved in the mental healthcare of People with IDD-MH: provider, caregiver, and patient.

An Analysis Of Orientation And Preceptorship Influence On Nurse Job Satisfaction Across Two States., Kathryn Robinson, Robert Cavanaugh, Rebecca Dias, Alexandra Peary, Ryan Johnson, Vikram Rao, Breac Baker, Kelley Strout, Rhonda Board, Brianne Olivieri-Mui
Faculty Publications
A large public nursing data set was used to determine whether orientation and/or preceptor programs impact job satisfaction among registered nurses in Maine and Massachusetts. There was no association between orientation and preceptor programs and satisfaction, nor evidence that new nurse status modified the relationship. There is a need for evaluation of orientation and preceptor programs' structure and effectiveness, and innovation is needed in promoting job satisfaction, thereby increasing nurse retention.

Imposters In The Dorms: Exploring The Significance Of Imposter Syndrome In Residential Life Live-In & Live-On Professionals, Samantha Rose Knapton
M.S. in Leadership
Imposter syndrome has been thoroughly studied across fields and disciplines for decades to understand the impact it has on students and professionals in the field. This paper aims to understand the relationship between imposter syndrome and professionals working for residential life departments for colleges and universities while they are living on campus. This study used a mixed methods approach to collect both numeric data as well as a linguistic understanding. Through surveys and interviews, there is a relatively equal feeling of imposter syndrome among residential life live-in/live-on professionals. Many aspects influence the development of imposter syndrome within residential life professionals, …

The study concluded that there is a correlation between effective leadership skills and job satisfaction and found that Democratic-Transformational and Autocratic-Transformational leadership styles are preferred of the six styles …
Understanding The Influence Of Space On Participation Within Mental Health Care And The Surrounding Community, Sana Syed
Inquiry Journal Spring 2024
Community-based treatment for mental illness rehabilitation has increased in prevalence over the last several decades. The subpopulation of individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) represents over one-third of the 26.5 million Americans seeking mental health treatment in 2021. SMI is described as a subset of mental illness that interferes with one’s daily life. The clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation is one form of community-based rehabilitation that was created for this population. With over 350 clubhouses worldwide, this model is dedicated to supporting and empowering its members through collaboration and a restorative environment. With funding from the Hamel Center for Undergraduate …

The Place Of Artificial Intelligence In Sentencing Decisions, Kieran Newcomb
The Place Of Artificial Intelligence In Sentencing Decisions, Kieran Newcomb
Inquiry Journal Spring 2024
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming a feature of human life. Technology infiltrates nearly every domain of our society, and the legal field is no exception. In the United States, some judges already employ AI-infused statistical programs to predict chances of recidivism for criminal offenders and use this information to inform prison sentences. Some people hope that this will bring a sense of scientific objectivity to the process. However, many also find this to be a disturbing, dystopian development.
I argue that our economy and justice system are structured such that in the coming years AI is likely to seize …

Addressing Workplace Violence In Healthcare, Eric Crane
Addressing Workplace Violence In Healthcare, Eric Crane
M.S. in Leadership
This research paper explores the prevalence, consequences, and mitigation strategies for workplace violence in healthcare. The literature focuses on the importance of leadership’s involvement of the implementation of change, providing programing, and obtaining buy-in from staff to combat what has consistently been a factor leading to employee burnout, assaultive behavior, and compromised patient safety. It shows that workplace violence has been a constant in healthcare, however, has escalated post COVID-19 pandemic. Research and statistics show that workplace violence in healthcare is more prevalent than in other fields and is on the rise. A multiple-choice survey was conducted using Survey Monkey, …
Analyzing Quality Of Care In New Hampshire Nursing Homes In Relation To Ownership Status, M. J. Condon
Analyzing Quality Of Care In New Hampshire Nursing Homes In Relation To Ownership Status, M. J. Condon
Inquiry Journal Spring 2024
When I enrolled in UNH as an analytical economics major, I had no idea what economics was, what I could do with an economics degree, or if this degree was for me. Participating in undergraduate research through the Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research allowed me to investigate how my passions with data analytics, economics, and helping others intersect. I discovered through my fellowship the power of economics, and a passion for my major.
This research aimed to investigate whether a relationship exists between quality of care and ownership of nursing homes in the state of New Hampshire. I had the …
Cell-Ebrity Drama: Foxn2, Hedgehog Signaling, And The Primary Cilia In Pancreatic Cancer, Nadine Emil
Cell-Ebrity Drama: Foxn2, Hedgehog Signaling, And The Primary Cilia In Pancreatic Cancer, Nadine Emil
Inquiry Journal Spring 2024
Pancreatic cancer poses a significant healthcare challenge due to its aggressive nature and dismal prognosis, marked by a five-year survival rate of merely 11.5%. Early stages often lack specific symptoms, resulting in late-stage diagnosis, which hampers effective treatment. Recent studies have revealed a notable depletion of primary cilia, essential organelles for cellular signaling, in advanced pancreatic cancer. Primary cilia are crucial for receiving and interpreting external signals, particularly in the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway, which governs tissue development and organization.
My research in Dr. Johnson’s lab focused on FOXN2, a protein that we hypothesize negatively regulates ciliogenesis, or the formation …
Is It Hot Here? How Increased Water Temperature Impacts Tunicates On A Physiological Level, Melanie Burley
Is It Hot Here? How Increased Water Temperature Impacts Tunicates On A Physiological Level, Melanie Burley
Inquiry Journal Spring 2024
When you think of marine species that live in the Gulf of Maine, a tiny invertebrate attached to the side of a dock may not be the first one that comes to mind. However, tunicates have a powerful influence on other species within their environment. This is especially true in the Gulf of Maine, where they have been found on the side of boat docks, tangled up on lobster traps, and attached to oyster and mussel beds.
Increasing amounts of certain invasive species of tunicates can negatively impact the organisms around them. Tunicates can have a drastic impact on local …
