Evil History: Protecting Our Constitution Through An Anti-Originalism Canon Of Constitutional Interpretation, Michael S. Lewis
Evil History: Protecting Our Constitution Through An Anti-Originalism Canon Of Constitutional Interpretation, Michael S. Lewis
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
This review assesses three recent books on the subject of originalism. Each approaches the question of originalism from a different angle. None of the books confronts the raw challenge to the authority of the framers leveled by Justice Thurgood Marshall in his speech upon the bicentennial of the United States Constitution. Marshall argued that the founding generation was too morally compromised, too bereft of information we now have as a result of the existence and experiences of millions of Americans since the close of the 18th century, and too imperfect in their efforts to design a sustainable government, to justify …

The challenges organizations are having related to finding (and retaining) deep analytical talent did not materialize out of thin air…or overnight. Analytics and Data science – and the role of the analytics professional – has evolved over the last several decades and has been fueled by our ability to capture and process increasingly larger and more complex variations of data and our desire to gain increasingly granular insights to fuel innovation and creativity. While many organizations recognize that a partnership with a university can be a resource to many of these challenges, the best way to start a conversation with …

Beyond Behavior: Linguistic Evidence Of Cultural Variation In Parental Ethnotheories Of Children’S Prosocial Helping, Andrew D. Coppens, Anna I. Corwin, Lucia Alcala

This study examined linguistic patterns in mothers’ reports about their toddlers’ involvement in everyday household work, as a way to understand the parental ethnotheories that may guide children’s prosocial helping and development. Mothers from two cultural groups – US Mexican-heritage families with backgrounds in indigenous American communities and middle-class European-American families – were interviewed regarding how their 2- to 3-year-old toddler gets involved in help with everyday household work. The study’s analytic focus was the linguistic form of mothers’ responses to interview questions asking about the child’s efforts to help with a variety of everyday household work tasks. Results showed …

Economic Optimism High Among Granite Staters 3/4/2020, Unh Survey Center
Economic Optimism High Among Granite Staters 3/4/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Optimism about business conditions in New Hampshire remains high and nearly half of residents foresee continuous good times for the national economy over the next five years, the highest percentage to say so since 2004. However, much of the positivity concerning the national economy and household finances is driven by record or near high optimism among Republicans, as Independents and Democrats are more sanguine. These findings are based on interviews conducted largely prior to the increased number of cases of coronavirus in the United States and its effect on the U.S. economy and markets.

Former South Bend (IN) Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Former Vice President Joe Biden are all statistically tied with President Donald Trump in early matchups for the November election, while former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg struggles in a matchup with Trump. President Trump enjoys the highest approval of any point of his presidency on his handling of the economy but his overall approval is largely unchanged since the same point last year.

All UNH Survey Center Polls
On the eve of the New Hampshire primary, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders's slim lead over former South Bend (IN) Mayor Pete Buttigieg among likely Democratic voters is holding in the high single digits. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren are vying for third. There has been little movement over the past six days, with support for each candidate within two percentage points of where each began. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar seems to have benefitted most from the Democratic debate on February 7, but she remains in fifth place. Half of likely Democratic voters still have not …

Sanders Opens Small Lead In Nh But Biden Seen As Best To Defeat Trump 1/26/2020, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has opened a small lead in New Hampshire, with former Vice President Joe Biden, former South Bend (IN) Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren chasing. While Biden trails Sanders, likely Democratic primary voters continue to believe he has the best chance to defeat Donald Trump in November. Democratic primary voters trust Sanders most with handling the climate crisis and healthcare, their two most important issues. Most Democratic primary voters would be satisfied or enthusiastic if any of these four candidates became the Democratic nominee. President Trump faces only token opposition in the Republican primary.

The strategy that microbial decomposers take with respect to using substrate for growth versus maintenance is one essential biological determinant of the propensity of carbon to remain in soil. To quantify the environmental sensitivity of this key physiological trade-off, we characterized the carbon use efficiency (CUE) of 23 soil bacterial isolates across seven phyla at three temperatures and with up to four substrates. Temperature altered CUE in both an isolate-specific manner and a substrate-specific manner. We searched for genes correlated with the temperature sensitivity of CUE on glucose and deemed those functional genes which were similarly correlated with CUE on …
