The Exploitation Of Pipeline Parallelism By Compile Time Dataflow Analysis, Joseph Michael Lombardo
The Exploitation Of Pipeline Parallelism By Compile Time Dataflow Analysis, Joseph Michael Lombardo
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The automatic and implicit transformation of sequential instruction streams, which execute efficiently for pipelined architectures is the subject of this paper. This paper proposes a method which maximizes the parallel performance of an instruction pipeline by detecting and eliminating specific pipeline hazards known as resource conflicts. The detection of resource conflicts is accomplished with data dependence analysis, while the elimination of resource conflicts is accomplished by instruction stream code transformation. The transformation of instruction streams is guided by data dependence analysis, and dependence graphs. This thesis is based on the premise that the elimination of resource conflicts is synonymous with …
A Study Of Long Time Behavior Of Aqueous Solution Of Polyethylene Oxide (Peo) And Aqueous Salt (Potassium Sulfate) Solution Of Peo Using Dynamic Light Scattering, Ziyi Hu
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
This work involves the study of the long time behavior of dilute aqueous solutions of polyethylene oxide (PEO) and the properties of dilute aqueous salt (K{dollar}\sb2{dollar}SO{dollar}\sb4{dollar}) solutions of PEO by using the dynamic light scattering technique; The long time study measurement results indicated that the values of the polydispersity factor and the mutual diffusion coefficient of the PEO particles of the solutions changed very slowly. The analysis of the measured data implied that the aggregation of PEO in a dilute aqueous solution might not be an inherent property of the solution, and the aggregation was probably caused by the impurities …
An Investigation Of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy Data Analysis Packages "Discrete" And "Contin" Using The Schulz-Zimm Distribution, Usman Abdul Aziz Qazi
An Investigation Of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy Data Analysis Packages "Discrete" And "Contin" Using The Schulz-Zimm Distribution, Usman Abdul Aziz Qazi
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
DISCRETE and CONTIN are standard data analysis packages used in Photon Correlation Spectroscopy for inversion of noisy autocorrelation functions. Their resolution was studied using simulated autocorrelation data based on the Schulz-Zimm distribution of polymer radii; Autocorrelation functions with various noise levels were fitted to both programs. The CONTIN output was compared with the original distribution. Autocorrelation functions calculated for broader distributions of radii yielded correspondingly broader functions in the radius space. Features like the skewness of the original Schulz-Zimm distribution were not recovered except in the case of narrow, approximately monodisperse radius distributions. Addition of noise was not found to …
The Best Of Times, The Worst Of Times: A Bio-Cultural Analysis Of The Ferguson District, 1892-1909, Dawna Eileen Ferris

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Purging method, sampling time, and screen length were compared to determine their impact on the collection of representative ground-water samples from monitoring wells sited in an aquitard contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOC); Two well-purging methods--(1) pump to the bottom of the screened interval and (2) pump to the top of the screened interval--were evaluated on three monitoring wells with different screened intervals (0.75-m and 3.0-m screen lengths); Monitoring wells completed in an aquitard should be purged before collecting ground-water samples for VOC analysis. Samples collected 2-8 hours after purging were statistically similar and representative of the highest VOC concentrations …
Abusive Parenting Attitudes In Parent Training Subgroups, Jacqueline Ann Harris
Abusive Parenting Attitudes In Parent Training Subgroups, Jacqueline Ann Harris
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The present study examines the abusive parenting attitudes of three subject populations (self-referred, abusive, and custody) in a parent training group. All subjects were administered the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI) before and after the parenting group. The hypothesis that all groups would make gains on the AAPI following the parent training intervention was not supported, with the exception of one AAPI construct (family roles) for the abusive subjects. It was revealed that the self-referred and custody groups' scores were similar, both pre and post, on the AAPI. However, the abusive population differed from the other two groups, both pre and …

The Detection Of Crevice Corrosion In Titanium And Its Alloys Through The Use Of Potential Monitoring, Dave Dror Bergman
The Detection Of Crevice Corrosion In Titanium And Its Alloys Through The Use Of Potential Monitoring, Dave Dror Bergman
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Conventional laboratory crevice corrosion testing requires approximately thirty days and is a simple go/no go test which does not indicate crevice incubation time and propagation. This study focuses on the effectiveness of potential monitoring to detect the onset of crevice corrosion and propagation for several titanium alloys in chloride environments. Utilizing this technique, crevice corrosion initiation is determined after several days, thus a shorter test period is required. This technique may well be suited for field as well as laboratory applications. Crevice corrosion incubation periods and corresponding potential behavior are investigated along with the effect of crevice to uncreviced surface …
Feedback Linearization, Invertibility Of Map, Zero Dynamics, And Nonlinear Control Of The Space Station, Theodore Charles Bossart
Feedback Linearization, Invertibility Of Map, Zero Dynamics, And Nonlinear Control Of The Space Station, Theodore Charles Bossart
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Based on feedback linearization and ultimate boundedness theory, a new approach to attitude control of the space station using control moment gyros (CMG's) is presented. A linearizing transformation is derived to obtain a simple linear representation of the nonlinear pitch axis dynamics. A feedback control law for trajectory tracking is derived when there is no disturbance torque acting on the space station. For attitude control in the presence of uncertain torque input, an additional control signal is superimposed such that in the closed-loop system, attitude responses are uniformly ultimately bounded and tend to a small set of ultimate boundedness. Extension …

Character Education Through Secondary School Literature Classes, Mary Elizabeth Curfman
Character Education Through Secondary School Literature Classes, Mary Elizabeth Curfman
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Perhaps because of a lack of knowledge about American history and tradition, American youth are disconnected from society and feel little moral obligation or responsibility to others. While American public schools traditionally taught values and ethics, most no longer do so in any consistent or systematic fashion; This thesis will defend a synthesis of the thinking of certain influential moral philosophers and learning theorists on the nature of moral character and its development. Since its recommendations are for improving character education in public secondary school literature classes in the Clark County School District, Las Vegas, Nevada, the thesis will also …

Hydrocollapsible Soil Correlations, Penny Roullier
Hydrocollapsible Soil Correlations, Penny Roullier
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
This thesis reports the results of research on correlations between laboratory measured collapse and routinely measured soil properties. From graphs of each soil property versus percent collapse, it is determined that dry density and water content have the strongest relationship of the variables examined to collapse. Multiple linear regression was also utilized to explore the possibility of predicting percent collapse from depth, classification, dry density and water content. These two analyses indicate that predicting quantitative percent collapse may be too specific for this application. Bayes' Theorem is used to calculate the probability of collapse group membership for each zone. The …
