The purpose of this year long interpretive study was to examine the creation of caring relationships among and the meanings of care to middle school students and their teacher. Specifically, I asked what care means to middle school aged students and their teacher; how caring relationships are created by middle school students and their teacher; and what influences support a teacher's inclination to care?;Because caring relationships are interactive and subject to the interpretations of the people involved in those relationships, symbolic interactionism was the framework for the study. Counselors in the Clark County School District, Las Vegas, Nevada were chosen for a study of the relationship of job satisfaction, role ambiguity and role conflict. A written survey consisting of the Teacher Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (Lester, 1984) and the Role Questionnaire (Rizzo et al., 1970) was conducted of selected full-time K-12 counselors in an attempt to assess the effects of role ambiguity and role conflict in six selected areas of job satisfaction: work itself, working conditions, recognition, responsibility, supervision and colleagues; The results showed that as the job satisfaction of the counselors increased, the amount of role ambiguity and …

The Institutionalization Of Change In A Restructured High School: A Case Study, Roy L Hoyt

This case study described the restructuring process of Dixie High School, one of 10 schools in a restructuring consortium in Utah. The Utah State Office of Education established the consortium in 1990 and supported it by providing seed money and the opportunity to reevaluate state requirements. The study delineated the change process at this school from 1991-93, as it moved from a traditional organizational structure to a site-based management model. This study also examined how the school brought about change to enhance student learning and create a collaborative school culture. In addition, this analysis investigated the changes in roles and …
