Some Additional Observations On The Morphology Of Dendrouterina Botauri Rausch, 1948 (Cestoda: Dilepididae), Robert L. Rausch Feb 1949

Some Additional Observations On The Morphology Of Dendrouterina Botauri Rausch, 1948 (Cestoda: Dilepididae), Robert L. Rausch

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications

The scolex has never been described for cestodes of the genus Dendrouterina Fuhrmann, 1912. The two species belonging to this genus, D. herodiae Fuhrmann, 1912, and D. botauri Rausch, 1948, were described from incomplete material. Because of the lack of a scolex, this genus was only tentatively placed by Fuhrmann (1912) in the family Dilepididae.
Persistent collecting during the spring migration of 1948 made possible the examination of a number of bitterns, Botaurus l. lentiginosus (Montagu). A single bird, collected on May 5, 1948, at Madison, Wisconsin, was found to be infected with two specimens of Dendrouterina botauri. Observations …

Test 408: Gibson Model I, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Forest Resources And Industries Of Missouri, D. B. King, E. V. Roberts, R. K. Winters Jan 1949

Forest Resources And Industries Of Missouri, D. B. King, E. V. Roberts, R. K. Winters

United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Missouri's forests occupy more than 15 million acres, one-third of the land area of the state. Practically all of this area is classified as commercial forest land. The noncommercial forest lands aggregate less than 1 percent of the total forest area. Two-thirds of all the commercial forest land is in the rugged Ozark region south of the Missouri River. Ninety percent of the commercial forest land is privately owned and is almost equally divided between farm and nonfarm owners. The Clark and Mark Twain National Forests contain 8 percent of the total, and the remaining 2 percent is divided between …

Rb160 Pink Rot Of Potatoes Caused By Phytophthora Erythroseptica Pethyb., R. W. Goss Jan 1949

Rb160 Pink Rot Of Potatoes Caused By Phytophthora Erythroseptica Pethyb., R. W. Goss

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

During the summer of 1943 reports were received of rotted tubers occurring in fields of early potatoes in central Nebraska. The fact that the tuber rot was present at harvest time and was associated with the early death of the plants rather than occurring as a postharvest disease indicated the presence of a disease factor previously unreported in Nebraska.

The Imagery Of Emily Dickinson, Ruth Flanders Mcnaughton Jan 1949

The Imagery Of Emily Dickinson, Ruth Flanders Mcnaughton

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

Emily Dickinson's poetry is now accepted by most students of literature as an American classic. In this brief study, I have tried to show one of the reasons why this has come about. After her first two volumes appeared in 1890 and 1891, many of the reviews were extremely critical. Typical of these is one which appeared in the Atlantic Monthly of January, 1892.

If Miss Dickinson's disjecta membra are poems, then Shakespeare's prolonged imposition should be exposed without further loss of time, and Lord Tennyson ought to be advised of the error of his ways before it is too …

On Matrices With Elements In A Principal Ideal Ring, William Leavitt, George Whaples

Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications

We prove the following theorem.
THEOREM 1. Let D be any commutative principal ideal ring without divisors of zero, and A any matrix with elements in D whose characteristic equation factors into linear factors in D. Then there exists a unimodular matrix T, with elements in D, such that T-1 AT has zeros below the main diagonal.

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)

This paper is the first of a series on the Orthoptera of Nebraska. In 1932, while a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, the author began a taxonomic study of the Orthoptera, the result of which was an unpublished List of the Othoptera of Nebraska. The list has been studied and revised.

Separation Of Enzymes On The Filter Paper Chromatopile, Herschel Mitchell, Malcom Gordon, Francis A. Haskins Jan 1949

Separation Of Enzymes On The Filter Paper Chromatopile, Herschel Mitchell, Malcom Gordon, Francis A. Haskins

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

A recent report from this laboratory described a method for isolation of low molecular weight compounds by chromatography on a pile of filter paper disks (1). Preliminary experiments have now been completed on the application of this method to the separation of enzymes. It was expected that a mixture of enzymes could be placed near the top of a filter paper pile and fractionated by imposing a gradient (i.e. pH, organic solvent, or salt concentration) on the column, thus taking advantage of a continuous process. Following the observation of Tiselius (2) it also seemed probable that enzyme separations could be …
