Quantitative Calculation Of Gas Chromatographic Peaks In Pesticide Residue Analyses, Jean A. Gaul
Quantitative Calculation Of Gas Chromatographic Peaks In Pesticide Residue Analyses, Jean A. Gaul
United States Food and Drug Administration: Publications
Comparison of five methods for calculating gas chromatographic peaks (disc integration, triangulation, peak height X width at half height, Rt X peak height, and peak height) shows no significant difference in the calculated results when aldrin, heptachlor epoxide, and dieldrin are injected into a gas chromatograph equipped with electron capture detector.
Problems are associated with the calculation of toxaphene, chlordane, DDT, and BHC. The author makes suggestions for calculating these four residues when present individually and in combinations with other pesticides. Use of the last four toxaphene peaks compares favorably with results obtained by using the entire toxaphene curve. …

Nesting Birds Of The Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Roger S. Sharpe, Raphael Richard Payne
Nebraska Bird Review
The Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located in Garden County near the heart of the Nebraska Sandhill Lakes Region. This country is principally rolling mid-grass prairie, the hills reaching a height of as much as 200 feet above the wet meadows. A good portion of the refuge's 46,000 acres consists of these lush meadows which are pocked by marshes, potholes and small lakes. Natural drainage from the surrounding sandhills and springs in the basins feed these water bodies.
The lakes are quite shallow, reaching a depth of perhaps 15 feet. They are alkaline yet are not so highly basic …

Antelope Creek, Dead Mans Run And Middle Creek: Salt Creek Basin, Volume Ii: Technical Appendix, United States Army Corps Of Engineers, Omaha District
United States Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District
This report on Antelope Creek, Dead Mans Run, and Middle Creek is the second in a series of flood plain information reports being prepared for streams in the Lincoln, Nebraska metropolitan area. Volume I of this series, published in August 1964, described flood hazard areas of Salt Creek Haines Branch, and Beal Slough.
This Technical Appendix, covering Antelope Creek, Dead Mans Run, and Middle Creek, is presented in four sections. Section A presents information applicable to all three streams. Sections B, C, and D are devoted to information applicable to the individual streams.

Antelope Creek and Dead Mans Run, right bank tributaries of Salt Creek, rise within the Lincoln metropolitan area near the town of Cheney, and 84th and A Streets, respectively. These streams flow in a northwesterly direction and drain 14 and 10.5 square miles, respectively. Middle Creek, a left bank tributary of Salt Creek, rises in eastern Seward County and drains 100 square miles as it flows in an easterly direction to join Salt Creek in Lincoln. Urban development in these valleys is concentrated within the Lincoln city limits. Elsewhere the valleys are rural in character, with the land devoted to …

Voluntary Intake Of Forage By Holstein Cows As Influenced By Lactation, Gestation, Body Weight, And Frequency Of Feeding, W. L. Johnston, G. W. Trimberger, M. J. Wright, L. Dale Van Vleck, C. R. Henderson
Voluntary Intake Of Forage By Holstein Cows As Influenced By Lactation, Gestation, Body Weight, And Frequency Of Feeding, W. L. Johnston, G. W. Trimberger, M. J. Wright, L. Dale Van Vleck, C. R. Henderson
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
Relationships involving forage appetite and frequency of feeding forage were studied with high-producing Holstein cows, including 60 complete cow lactations and 49 records of the dry period. Significant correlation (r= .59) was obtained between forage dry matter intake and 4% FCM yield in the lactation period. Patterns of forage DM intake were affected strongly by different stages of the lactation and dry periods. Infrequent periods of hot summer weather decreased intake and milk yield by about 10%. Individual cow differences, however, were the most important source of variation in forage DM intake. Age, body weight changes, body condition, and stage …

Diffusion Of The Chlorine Ion In Potassium Chloride , Robert Fuller
Diffusion Of The Chlorine Ion In Potassium Chloride , Robert Fuller
Robert G. Fuller Publications
The diffusion coefficient of the chlorine ion was measured in pure single crystals of potassium chloride and in crystals containing mole fractions of strontium chloride between 2.1 x 10-5 and 4.69 x 10-4. The results were consistent with the assumption that both anion vacancies and vacancy pairs contribute to the diffusion of the chlorine ion. The diffusion coefficient of the chlorine ion in pure potassium chloride was well represented by the equation D=61 exp (-2.12±0.05 eV/kT) cm2/sec from 560 to 760 °C. The anion-vacancy contribution to the chlorine-ion diffusion coefficient in pure …
Optimal Farm Organizations For Irrigated Farms In South Central Nebraska, M. D. Skold, A. W. Epp
Optimal Farm Organizations For Irrigated Farms In South Central Nebraska, M. D. Skold, A. W. Epp
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
This report discusses some adjustment opportunities on irrigated farms in south central Nebraska. Six types of farms are defined depending on the amount of irrigated land and farm size. Profit maximizing farm organizations are computed for nine sets of product prices. The organizations are conditioned by 1961 available resource supplies. Available resources can be reallocated among enterprises to achieve the most profitable organizations.
Lethal Action Of Ribonuclease For Thermophilic Bacilli, T.L. Thompson, J.M. Shively
Lethal Action Of Ribonuclease For Thermophilic Bacilli, T.L. Thompson, J.M. Shively
Papers in Microbiology
THOMPSON, T. L. (University of Nebraska, Lincoln), AND J. M. SHIVELY. Lethal action of ribonuclease for thermophilic bacilli. J. Bacteriol 91:673-676. 1966.-Exposure of a thermophilic bacillus, NU 47, to 0.2 μg/ml of pancreatic ribonuclease resulted in a drastic reduction of viable cells. The observed lethality is thought to be associated specifically with the ribonuclease, since heat treatment did not diminish activity and the addition of ribonucleic acid to the cells completely eliminated the action of the enzyme. Cells from 2-hr cultures, buffered between pH 6.0 and 7.0, were most sensitive. The lethal action was most pronounced when cells were …

Studies On The Helminth Fauna Of Alaska. Xliv. Revision Of Ogmogaster Jägerskiöld, 1891, With A Description Of O. Pentalineatus Sp. N. (Trematoda: Notocotylidae), Robert L. Rausch, Francis H. Fay
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Discrepant conclusions in the literature concerning the specific distinction of the two spe- cies assigned to the genus Ogmogaster Jägerskiöld, 1891, necessitated a reevaluation of the taxonomic characters used in separating these trematodes. Study of material from baleen whales from North Pacific waters and from baleen whales and lobodont pinnipeds from the southern hemisphere disclosed the existence of two species which can be distinguished by consistent differences in numbers of ventral ridges, ratio of length of cirrus sac to length of body, and by other morphological characters. Since the original description of O. plicatus (Creplin, 1829) does not permit certain …
