Further Studies On The Survival Time Of The Bovine Tubercle Bacillus In Soil, Soil And Dung, In Dung And On Grass, With Experiments On Feeding Guinea-Pigs And Calves On Grass Artificially Infected With Bovine Tubercle Bacilli, E. C. G. Maddock
Michigan Bovine Tuberculosis Bibliography and Database
IN a previous paper (Maddock, 1933) it was reported that when soil, soil and dung mixtures and dung were infected by adding fine emulsions of bovine tubercular material, virulent tubercle bacilli could be recovered after 178 days' exposure under field conditions. The experiments reported in the aforesaid paper were carried out in 1931, but it was felt that weight would be added to the results if the experiments could be repeated in a year of differing weather conditions.

The Nebraska Meteor And Meteorite Of August 8, 1933, Erwin Hinckley Barbour, C. Bertrand Schultz
The Nebraska Meteor And Meteorite Of August 8, 1933, Erwin Hinckley Barbour, C. Bertrand Schultz
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
At approximately 10:30 a. m., mountain standard time, on August 8, 1933, a large meteor, traveling in a westerly direction, exploded over the panhandle of Nebraska. The phenomenon was witnessed by many citizens throughout the region, and by a number of students from the University of Nebraska, who were engaged at the time in palaeontological field work in northwestern Nebraska .

The Geology And Mammalian Fauna Of The Pleistocene Of Nebraska Part I Outline Of Pleistocene Geology Of Nebraska Part Ii The Pleistocene Mammals Of Nebraska, A. L. Lugn, C. Bertrand Schultz
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
The object of the present paper is to provide a suitable brief statement of the present state of knowledge of the Pleistocene geology of Nebraska, for an adequate understanding of the Pleistocene Mammal list, by Mr. C. Bertrand Schultz, which forms Part II of this report. The "outline" is necessarily brief and does not contain many detailed sections, nor lengthy discussions of controversial points. It is lacking in adequate detailed descriptions of new formations and may not be entirely convincing to many readers. The only excuse which the writer can offer for the shortcomings of the following pages is the …

The English Traveller And The Movement Of Ideas 1660-1732, R. W. Frantz
The English Traveller And The Movement Of Ideas 1660-1732, R. W. Frantz
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
During the span of years reaching from the mid-sixteenth to the mid-seventeenth centuries, related forces persisted which gave to the voyage-literature of that day a distinctive pattern, both in thought and in form. Between 1660 and 1732 other forces began to act; and the result was an altered pattern. This change was due principally to the impetus which experimental science received during !the last half of the seventeenth century. The age which saw the rise of the Royal Society, the publication of Newton's Principia and Locke's Essay, the age, in other words, which conceived the world of nature and of …

On The Element Of Decomposition Of A Doubly Periodic Function Of The Second Kind, M. A. Basoco

Hermite has shown that a meromorphic function which satisfies periodicity relations of the form (1) F (z + 2ω) = μF (z), F (z + 2ω’) = μ’F (z), where ω’/ω = a+ib, b>0, and μ, μ' are independent of z, maybe expressed in terms of the function v{z + X) (2) G(z) = σ(z + λ) ÷ σ(z) + σ(λ) eρz, and its derivatives, in which λ, ρ are suitably determined constants and σ(u) is the …

On The Trigonometric Developments Of Certain Doubly Periodic Functions Of The Second Kind, M. A. Basoco
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
The class of meromorphic functions which satisfy periodicity relations of the form (1) ƒ(z + 2ωl) = c1f(z), f(z + 2ω2) = c2f{z), where the multipliers c1 and c2 are independent of z, and ωl/ω2 is a complex number with non-vanishing imaginary part, has been named by Hermite doubly periodic of the second kind. It is possible to make the study of these functions depend on others of the same type, but such that one of the multipliers, say cl, is unity. In what follows …
Indicator Significance Of Brush Lands For The Growth Of Western Yellow Pine, J. E. Weaver
Indicator Significance Of Brush Lands For The Growth Of Western Yellow Pine, J. E. Weaver
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
A study of unusual interest and significance in the application of ecological principles to the solution of an economic problem has recently been completed. It deals with the causes for the absence of western yellow pine in brush vegetation of various types that occur throughout the mountainous portions of northern Utah, eastern Idaho, and western Wyoming, and, in fact, form a much interrupted and fragmented belt whose center extends from the Gulf of California to west-central Montana. Many of these brush sites, especially in northern Utah and southern Idaho, lie immediately below the Douglas fir type (which is continuous) and …

The Practical Evaluation Of Resultants, T. A. Pierce
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
The purpose of the present note is to give a practical method of evaluating the resultant of two equations. The method is particularly effective when the degree of one of the equations is high while that of the other is low. Use will be made of certain results in the theory of matrices.

Forty-Fifth Annual Report Of The Agricultural Experiment Station Of Nebraska, February 1, 1932, W.W. Burr
Agricultural Research Division: News and Annual Reports
This report covers the investigations, expenditures, and publications of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station for the fiscal year June 30, 1931. During the year 68 projects have been under investigation at the main station. These have covered a wide range of subjects. At the various substations the work is planned to meet the needs of the different regions.
The funds for carrying on the work of the stations are derived from federal and state sources. The work is carried on in definite projects according to the supporting fund.
Satisfactory progress was made on the research program. During the year eight …

Association Of Artifacts And Extinct Mammals In Nebraska, Bertrand Schultz
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
During the past four years the Nebraska State Museum, under the directorship of Dr. Erwin Hinckley Barbour, has been making even more extensive palaeontological collections throughout Nebraska than heretofore. As work progresses, especially with fossil bison and mammoth, there is increasing evidence that man appeared in Nebraska much earlier than is generally believed. Two occurrences of artifacts associated with fossil bones will constitute the main theme of this paper.
The Mandible Of Platybeldon Barnumbrowni, Erwin Hinckley Barbour
The Mandible Of Platybeldon Barnumbrowni, Erwin Hinckley Barbour
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
Platybelodon barnumbrowni was described originally as Torynobelodon barnumbrowni.1 The Nebraska State Museum was visited and this unique specimen studied by Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn and Dr. Walter Granger, August seventeenth and eighteenth, nineteen hundred and thirty-two. It is the opinion of both that this specimen belongs properly to their Mongolian genus Platybelodon. With certain reservations the writer wishes to defer instantly to their judgment, which is based on unequalled experience. It is perfectly apparent that this form makes a close approach to the remarkable Platybelodons found by Granger and Andrews in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia, later figured and …
