A Study Of Kerosene Cook Stoves, Edna B. Snyder

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

The purpose of this study was to learn the advantages and disadvantages of various types of kerosene cook stoves used in Nebraska. Kerosene cook stoves have burners of four types. Ten stoves representing the four types were studied as follows: four stoves having long-chimney wick burners; three stoves having short-chimney wick burners; two stoves having short chimneys with asbestos kindlers or lighting rings; one stove having wickless burners. To determine comparative performance of the four types of burners, they were tested for: (1) time required to heat a known quantity of water through a known range of temperature; (2) thermal …

The cooperation of the Extension specialists in Agricultural Engineering and Poultry Husbandry is especially acknowledged in the development of these plans.

Rb30-245 Water Supply And Sewage Disposal Systems For Farm Homes, Ivan D. Wood, E.B. Lewis

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

When the well "goes dry" or when the windmill or pump breaks down, every one in the household immediately appreciates the value fo plenty of water. It is the purpose of this bulletin to present a number of water supply and sewage disposal …

Homes For Birds, E. R. Kalmbach, W. L. Mcatee Jan 1930

Homes For Birds, E. R. Kalmbach, W. L. Mcatee

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Birds appeal strongly to the interest and affection of mankind. Not only do they charm by their graceful forms, harmonious colors, sprightly actions, and usually pleasing notes, but they have an even more important claim upon our esteem because of their great economic value.

Birds feed upon practically all insect pests. They are voracious, able to move freely from place to place, and exert a steady influence in keeping down the swelling tide of insect life.

For economic as well as for esthetic reasons, therefore, an effort should be made to attract and protect birds and to increase their numbers. …
