Great variations in morphological characteristics and in ability to survive heat and drought are observable among the hundreds of varieties and thousands of clones used in modern potato breeding programs.

The experimental work reported herein was planned to determine:

  1. The extent and nature of the changes in the relative turgidity (R.T.) of leaves of the potato plant during the diurnal cycle.
  2. The extent to which R.T. of potato leaves is influenced by atmospheric conditions, soil moisture, variety and age of plants.
  3. The extent to which visible evidence of water shortage in leaves is indicative of water loss from them as …

Field Manual Fm 55-8, Transportation Intelligence, October 1956, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

Shortly before World War II, Army Technical Services had been instructed to set up intelligence sections in the offices of their chiefs. The technical services were bureaus which supplied weapons, equipment, and services to the Army, managed the careers of officers in a particular …

Civil Defense And Law, Part Ii, Val Peterson Jan 1956

Civil Defense And Law, Part Ii, Val Peterson

Nebraska Law Review

American lawyers dare not ignore the legal dislocations that would result from an attack upon this country. A new dimension to the responsibilities of the legal expert is the protection of the legal structure around which is built the nation’s economy. The threat to the national legal machinery is a real one. This danger probably cannot be eliminated; however, intelligent planning can very definitely lessen the impact of severe destruction. Careful, skillful planning, reduced to practical terms and applied judiciously to the daily problems with which we are most familiar, can do much toward reducing the effects of devastating disaster.

Industrial Wastes, Charles E. Renn Mar 1955

Industrial Wastes, Charles E. Renn

United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications

This paper presents a summary of experiences with a variety of cyanogenic wastes. The work has attempted to evaluate the interaction of waste bearing waters and the environment in terms of waste disposal design requirements. In this, the approach is somewhat more critical than that commonly taken by fisheries biologists, conservationists, and others who have been concerned with the "preventive" aspects of waste disposal.

The first phases of the work were designed to discover the tolerable limits of certain waste components to fresh water fish. This was undertaken in 1950; in the interval the composition of the wastes has been …
