Test 092: Wallis Ok 15-27, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

A Synopsis Of The Tabanidae Of Nebraska With A Description Of A New Species From Colorado, Everett E. Wehr Oct 1922

A Synopsis Of The Tabanidae Of Nebraska With A Description Of A New Species From Colorado, Everett E. Wehr

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

Recently, the writer has had occasion to prepare a synopsis of the species of Tabanidae, otherwise known as horseflies, deerflies or gadflies, of the State of Nebraska. These flies are of importance to the farmer and stock raiser because of their blood-sucking propensities and their annoyance to stock. They breed in marshy lands and wet soil. This synopsis is based altogether on specimens collected in Nebraska and now actually present in the University of Nebraska collection. It is not probable, therefore, that it is a complete list. More extensive collecting over the state would probably reveal the presence of other …

A Study Of The Environmental Conditions Influencing The Development Of Stem Rust In The Absence Of An Alternate Host. I. The Viability Of The Urediniospores Of Puccinia Graminis Tritici Form Iii, George L. Peltier Sep 1922

A Study Of The Environmental Conditions Influencing The Development Of Stem Rust In The Absence Of An Alternate Host. I. The Viability Of The Urediniospores Of Puccinia Graminis Tritici Form Iii, George L. Peltier

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

No exact data are at hand regarding the influence of temperature and relative humidity on the viability of the urediniospores of stem rust under controlled conditions. 1. The influence of relative humidity on the viability of the urediniospores of Puccinia graminis tritici Form III is very pronounced and closely associated with temperature. 2. At high relative humidities, depending somewhat on the temperature, the percentage of germination is low and the period over which the spores are viable is very short. 3. The same relation exists at the low relative humidities except that it is not so pronounced and is more …

Studies Of Immunity Against Hemorrhagic Septicemia, L. Van Es, H. M. Martin Aug 1922

Studies Of Immunity Against Hemorrhagic Septicemia, L. Van Es, H. M. Martin

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

As one of the phases of our inquiry an effort was made to acquire some general knowledge regarding the immunizing value (1) of sera prepared with the aid of Bacillus bipolaris septicus procured from cattle and swine or (2) of those alleged to be of service in the control or treatment of hemorrhagic septicemia in the species mentioned. The experiments reported in this publication were almost exclusively made with sera purchased from dealers in biologic products.

Variations In Cytology And Gross Morphology Of Taraxacum Ii. Senescence, Rejuvenescence, And Leaf Variation In Taraxacum, Paul B. Sears Jun 1922

Variations In Cytology And Gross Morphology Of Taraxacum Ii. Senescence, Rejuvenescence, And Leaf Variation In Taraxacum, Paul B. Sears

Papers in Ecology

The variability of Taraxacum has frequently been recorded in botanical literature without receiving much elucidation. It is less often an object of investigation than of conjecture and discussion. A few botanists have studied the effect of environmental factors upon Taraxacum, but their results have not cleared away taxonomic difficulties. Systematic botanists have either looked upon the variations in this genus as fluctuations or slight mutations, and then proceeded to lump or split as judgment might dictate. That life history exerts a profound influence upon form seems generally to have escaped attention.

Anthocyan Pigments, Paul B. Sears Jun 1922

Anthocyan Pigments, Paul B. Sears

Papers in Ecology

Noack has found rhamnose-free flavonol diglucosides to be much more abundant in green leaves than has generally been supposed. In such leaves as he studied he was able to establish the existence of flavonol-anthocyan in couples of similar glucosidal nature, but secured no evidence of aromatic nucleus composition in such cases. He suggests that these couples function as a reduction mechanism during photosynthesis.

Corn Investigations, T. A. Kiesselbach Jun 1922

Corn Investigations, T. A. Kiesselbach

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

The purpose of the investigations reported in this bulletin has been primarily to determine some of the underlying principles involved in corn improvement. The work comprises a study of some of the physiological characteristics of the crop together with a comparison of various selection, breeding, and cultural practices in their relation to grain yield.

Variations In Cytolgoy And Gross Morphology Of Taraxacum, I. Cytology Of Taraxacum Laevigatum, Paul B. Sears

Papers in Ecology

These investigations are the outgrowth of a study, begun in 1914 at the instance of the late Professor C. E. Bessey, of parthenogenesis in Taraxacum vulgare (Lam.) Schrk. and T. laevigatum ( Willd.) DC. These two species are the common ones in central United States, being respectively designated as Leontodon taraxacum L. and L. erythrospermum (Andrz.) by Britton and Brown (3). In 1917 the existence of ameiotic parthenogenesis in both species was confirmed (23) and certain pollen abnormalities briefly described. These abnormalities have invited more critical analysis as a means of throwing light upon certain phases of variation …

The Physiology Of The Respiration Of Fishes In Relation To The Hydrogen Ion Concentration Of The Medium, Edwin B. Powers Jan 1922

The Physiology Of The Respiration Of Fishes In Relation To The Hydrogen Ion Concentration Of The Medium, Edwin B. Powers

Papers in Systematics and Biological Diversity

Within recent years much has been added to the knowledge concerning the mechanism of the respiratory function of the blood. Haldane and Priestley (1905) have shown that, at least in the higher animals, the respiratory movements are affected by the carbon dioxide tension of the arterial blood. It has been shown definitely (Hasselbalch, 1912 and citations) that the exciting agent is the hydrogen ion concentration of the blood bathing the respiratory center.

Krogh and Leitch (1919) undertook to study the respiratory function of the blood of fishes in view of the knowledge of the influence of temperature upon the dissociation …

The Spirit Of The Common Law, Roscoe Pound Aug 1921

The Spirit Of The Common Law, Roscoe Pound

Nebraska College of Law: Faculty Publications

These lectures speak in large part from the second decade of the present [20th] century; and they show the faith in the efficacy of effort and belief that the administration of justice may be improved by conscious intelligent action which characterized that time. The recrudescence of juristic pessimism in the past three years has not led me to abandon that point of view. At the end of the nineteenth century lawyers thought attempt at conscious improvement was futile. Now many of them think it is dangerous. In the same way the complacent nothing-needs-to-be-done attitude of Blackstone, who in the spirit …
