Hog Houses For Nebraska, O. W. Sjogren, I. D. Wood
Hog Houses For Nebraska, O. W. Sjogren, I. D. Wood
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The material contained in this bulletin is a culmination of several years' study and investigation of the different types of hog houses used in Nebraska. It is realized that the plans given will not suit all conditions that may arise, but an effort has been made to bring out the essential factors so that the plans may serve as a guide in planning a house suited to particular conditions.
Effect Of Environment On Potato Degeneration Diseases, R. W. Goss
Effect Of Environment On Potato Degeneration Diseases, R. W. Goss
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
During recent years much of the investigational work on the degeneration diseases of the potato has been directed toward the separation and identification of a number of diseases formerly grouped under the general names of mosaic, leaf roll, and "running out". Extensive studies have also been made on methods of transmission, host range, overwintering and the identification of the evasive causal factor. Investigations of this type, however, have progressed slowly because of the necessity of developing new methods of research, because of the complexity of the problem, and because of the lack of knowledge regarding the causal factors. Meanwhile there …

The Hemotoxins Of Intestinal Parasites: A Critical Summary With Notes Of Some Cases, Joseph Mellick Leidy Ii
The Hemotoxins Of Intestinal Parasites: A Critical Summary With Notes Of Some Cases, Joseph Mellick Leidy Ii
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Library Materials
The mechanical and reflex disturbances produced by animal parasites in the intestinal canal and other organs of the body have long been recognized by pathologists and clinicians. The researches of economic parasitologists and the occasional reports by clinical observers indicate the presence of other factors deserving of further investigation. That certain parasitic worms secrete substances that effect the blood of their hosts deleteriously has been shown conclusively by the researches of Tallqvist, Schwartz, Schaumann and others. The broad tapeworm of man which is known to produce severe anaemia contains a hemolytic agent according to the experiments and researches of Schaumann …

A Study Of The Vegetation Of Northeastern Arizona, Herbert Christian Hanson
A Study Of The Vegetation Of Northeastern Arizona, Herbert Christian Hanson
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
The State of Arizona is marked by a great series of cliffs that extend from the mouth of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River in the northwestern part of the state southeastward into New Mexico. This line of cliffs, rising 1000 to 4000 feet above the desert plains forms the southwestern and southern boundary of the great physiographic province called the Colorado Plateaus. It is roughly circular and includes northeastern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, western Colorado, and a large part of Utah. This province is subdivided by a number of deep canyons and high cliffs into numerous plateaus. The …
Memoirs Of The Foreign Legion, Maurice Magnus, D.H. Lawrence
Memoirs Of The Foreign Legion, Maurice Magnus, D.H. Lawrence
Electronic Texts in American Studies
Maurice Magnus was 39 years old when he enlisted in the French Foreign Legion to join the fight against Germany in World War I. Magnus was an American expatriot living in Rome—a theatrical agent, tutor, newspaper correspondent, writer, editor, and literary entrepreneur. He soon discovered his error—the Legion he found consisted largely of German exiles, prison-avoiding felons, and contemptuous French officers. Magnus spent about six weeks training in North Africa before a transfer to southern France provided the opportunity to desert and flee back to Italy. The Memoirs recounts his brief disenchanted tenure as a Legionnaire. After his military service …
A Preliminary Report On The Nebraska State Museum, Erwin H. Barbour
A Preliminary Report On The Nebraska State Museum, Erwin H. Barbour
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
The Nebraska State Museum has been established a sufficient number of years to make it widely known throughout the state, both by reputation and by personal visits. Incident to a growing clientele and an expanding correspondence, it is expedient that a concise circular letter be issued in bulletin form. Such a pamphlet can be promptly forwarded to inquirers and will offer obvious advantages over individual replies.
Root Behavior And Crop Yield Under Irrigation, Frank C. Jean, John E. Weaver
Root Behavior And Crop Yield Under Irrigation, Frank C. Jean, John E. Weaver
Papers of John E. Weaver (1884–1956)
More than half of the surface of the earth receives insufficient precipitation
for the most favorable growth of crops. The, best method of making up this deficiency is through the application of water by irrigation. Hence the economical use of irrigation water is one of the chief problems of agriculture in arid regions. Since much more land is available than can be irrigated by the supply of water, even when methods of greatest economy are employed, the welfare of these regions demands that the irrigation water be used as efficiently as possible (cf. Harris, 1916). It has been estimated that …
Ec24-721 Dairy Barns For Nebraska, Oscar W. Sjogren, Ivan D. Wood
Ec24-721 Dairy Barns For Nebraska, Oscar W. Sjogren, Ivan D. Wood
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
The increasing interest shown among the farmers thruout this state in the betterment of dairy stock, and the tendency to give more attention to dairying on the farms, is bringing to the Agricultural College a great many requests for plans and suggestions for dairy barn construction. It is impossible to give every one of these inquiries individual attention to the extent of drawing a detailed plan to suit the conditions in each case. It is hoped therefore, that the material contained in this bulletin will offer helpful suggestions and answer many questions in the minds of prospective dairy men and …

Trematodes From The Rat, Horace Wesley Stunkard, Chilson B. Haviland
Trematodes From The Rat, Horace Wesley Stunkard, Chilson B. Haviland
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Library Materials
Occasional examinations of rats for animal parasites have been carried on for over a hundred years. Later, knowledge of the importance of rats as reservoirs of infection and as agents in the transfer of parasitic diseases has led to the regular and careful examination of large numbers in various parts of the world. Among the more recent publications dealing with the parasites of rats may be mentioned Shipley (1908), Moll (1917), Chandler (1921), Balfour (1922), Baylis (1922), Stevenson (1922), Hegner (1923), and Lavier (1924). Notwithstanding the many investigations, only a single trematode parasite has previously been discovered and concerning it …
Control Of Flowering In Teosinte: Short-Day Treatment Brings Early Flowers, R. A. Emerson
Control Of Flowering In Teosinte: Short-Day Treatment Brings Early Flowers, R. A. Emerson
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Attempts to force teosinte into flower in mid-summer, in order to facilitate hybridizing it with maize, have afforded considerable information concerning the flowering time of teosinte under diverse conditions. The possibility that some of this information may be of use to others suggests its publication. The paper is, therefore, to be considered as a help in the technique of teosinte and maize hybridization rather than a contribution ~to the solution of the physiological problems involved.
Size And Structure Of Leaves Of Cereals In Relation To Climate, William Edward Bruner, John E. Weaver
Size And Structure Of Leaves Of Cereals In Relation To Climate, William Edward Bruner, John E. Weaver
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
Although a very large amount of work has been done on the variation in form, size, and anatomical structure of native plants grown under different conditions, relatively little attention has been given to similar studies of crop plants. As far as we are able to ascertain, no investigations have been made of variation in the leaves of cereal crops grown under widely different, measured environments.
During the past few years (1920-23), in connection with studies on the development and activities of the roots of crop plants (Weaver, Jean, and Crist, 1922), plant production as a measure of environment (Weaver, 1924), …
