Test 211: Mccormick-Deering Model T-40 "Tractractor", Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

The Composition Of Soil Colloids In Relation To Soil Classification, Horace Byers, M. S. Anderson Jan 1932

The Composition Of Soil Colloids In Relation To Soil Classification, Horace Byers, M. S. Anderson

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

For a period of approximately fifteen years investigators in the Bureau of Chemistry and Soils have been engaged in the accumulation of scientific data concerned with colloid material of the soil. During this period a large volume of accurate information has been secured which has been published in the form of bulletins and journal articles. So far as the Bureau publications are concerned, but little has appeared concerning theoretical aspects of the composition of the colloid. They have concerned themselves, for the most part, with methods of isolation and estimation, and determination of general physical and chemical characteristics.

Worm Parasites Of The Brown Rat (Mus Norvegicus) In The Philippine Islands, With Special Reference To Those Forms That May Be Transmitted To Human Beings, Marcos A. Tubangui

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Library Materials

Summary

Besides the role that they play as carriers and reservoirs of bubonic plague and other bacterial as well as spirochretal infections, rats often harbor parasitic worms, some of which are also a menace to human health. In view of this and because of the fact that the helminthic fauna of rats has never been studied extensively in the Philippine Islands, it seemed desirable to undertake a systematic examination of these animals for the purpose of finding out if they are infested with parasites that are transmissible to man.

The examination of nine hundred fifty rats (Mus norvegicus) …

Infection Experiments With Spindle Tuber And Unmottled Curly Dwarf Of The Potato, R. W. Goss Feb 1931

Infection Experiments With Spindle Tuber And Unmottled Curly Dwarf Of The Potato, R. W. Goss

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

It is probable that more than one insect species are capable of spreading some of the potato virus diseases. This conclusion was also indicated by repeated observations in the dry-land section of western Nebraska. While aphids are abundant and are probably the chief vectors of potato virus diseases in the more humid sections of the country, they are usually scarce in the western upland plains area and are not present in large enough numbers to account for the rapid spread of spindle tuber and unmottled curly dwarf which sometimes occurs. It was therefore considered advisable to determine the common potato …

Rb31-253 Variety Tests Of Oats, Barley, And Spring Wheat, T.A. Kiesselbach, W.E. Lyness

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

The use of superior varieties is of first importance in the production of spring small grains. The comparative merits of the different crops and their available varieties may be best determined through tests extending over a period of years. Tests of oats, barley, and spring wheat have been made on the Experiment Station Farm of the Nebraska College of Agriculture at Lincoln.

The plan has been to have these variety trials include the most promising sorts obtainable from Nebraska and other states. Most of the varieties grown have originated in the breeding experiments of various state and federal experiment stations. …

Ec31-133 The Management Of Nebraska Soils (Revised March 1936), P.H. Stewart, D.L. Gross Jan 1931

Ec31-133 The Management Of Nebraska Soils (Revised March 1936), P.H. Stewart, D.L. Gross

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

The agricultural lands of this country are its greatest natural resource. History points out that nations with vast areas of good farm land are most likely to prosper and survive over long periods of time. Local communities, too, prosper and flourish in proportion to the productiveness of the surrounding land. Schools, social life, and business develop best in areas where the land is productive and properly managed and conserved.

Nebraska, in common with other states, has suffered by the depletion of soil fertility. The reduction in acres in legumes and grasses, and the deplation of the organic matter in the …

The Secular Activities Of The German Episcopate 919-1024, Edgar Nathaniel Johnson Jan 1931

The Secular Activities Of The German Episcopate 919-1024, Edgar Nathaniel Johnson

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

The appearance of the monarchical bishop in the early organization of the church is its most outstanding feature. His diocese so far supplants in importance the early Christian community, that in his own person he becomes almost synonymous with the church itself. In the respect paid him and in the affluence of his outward display he vies with the Roman provincial governor. The increasing patrimony of the church comes under his guiding hand, and with time he becomes the dominant administrator in those towns where Roman municipal administration was decadent. Every bishop to some extent nourished ambitions similar to those …

The Musk-Oxen Of Nebraska, Erwin Hinckley Barbour Jan 1931

The Musk-Oxen Of Nebraska, Erwin Hinckley Barbour

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)

The remains of no less than eight fossil musk-oxen are already known in Nebraska, of which one is preserved in the Museum at Hastings, Nebraska, and seven in the State Museum at Lincoln. This is a large number to be recorded in anyone state. As late as 1891 authors wrote that but two examples of musk-oxen were known in the United States, one from Kentucky, and one from Arkansas, if, indeed, they be valid species. Now that pioneer days are well behind this commonwealth, and that there is a growing sentiment for exploration and proper display of the State's resources, …

Evidence Of Dinosaurs In Nebraska, Erwin Hinckley Barbour Jan 1931

Evidence Of Dinosaurs In Nebraska, Erwin Hinckley Barbour

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)

Nebraska has long been a collecting ground famous for its fossil mammals, but as yet no dinosaurian bones have been reported, nor have they been expected. The distal end of a finely preserved femur, however, has recently been brought to light, supposedly occurring in position in the Dakota formation of eastern Nebraska. It was discovered, collected, and donated by Mr. J. B. White, (University of Nebraska, Law, class of 1899) on his farm two miles south of Decatur, in northeastern Burt County, near the Missouri River. It was found in undoubted Dakota sand associated with many leaf impressions. This is …

The Giant Beaver, Castoroides, And The Common Beaver, Castor, In Nebraska, Erwin Hinckley Barbour Jan 1931

The Giant Beaver, Castoroides, And The Common Beaver, Castor, In Nebraska, Erwin Hinckley Barbour

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)

Respecting the giant beaver, Castoroides, in Nebraska, four occurrences can be reported. Of rodents in general the dawn. was in the early Eocene, at which time there were in existence certain squirrel-like members of the order. Rodents are a persistent group, and are among the smallest, most distinctive, most numerous and widely distributed orders of terrestrial mammals. No other order boasts of so many species, the number being between nine hundred and one thousand. In spite of wide divergencies and modifications adapting them to various modes of life, such as climbing, burrowing, swimming, flying, leaping, and running, there is remarkable …

Rb31-258 The Contribution Fo Nebraska Farm Women To Family Income Through Poultry And Dairy Products, M. Ruth Clark

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This investigation was made in 1929-1930 for the purpose of studying the activities of Nebraska farm women in the raising of poultry and in the care of dairy products, to discover whether or not such activities resulted in a contribution to the family income. With this in view, a group of women were asked to keep records for one year (from April 1, 1929 to March 31, 1930) of the value and amount of dairy and poultry products sold or used, of all expense incurred in production, and of the time spent both by the homemaker herself and by all …
