In order to develop a discipline-specific data management plan (DMP) template, it is important to obtain information from researchers. For a chemistry-specific template, NFDI4Chem conducted a series of interviews with 27 participants and used data from the RDA WG Discipline-specific Guidance for DMP online survey.
The interviews showed that the implementation of research data management in everyday work is a big challenge. Key findings from the interview series highlight challenges in implementing FAIR principles, with a focus on “Findability” and “Reusability.” The importance of linking physical samples and data in chemistry is emphasised, with discussions on storage, archiving, and the …

Data-Driven Evidence-Based Syntactic Sugar Design, David Obrien, Robert Dyer, Tien N. Nguyen, Hridesh Rajan
School of Computing: Faculty Publications
Programming languages are essential tools for developers, and their evolution plays a crucial role in supporting the activities of developers. One instance of programming language evolution is the introduction of syntactic sugars, which are additional syntax elements that provide alternative, more readable code constructs. However, the process of designing and evolving a programming language has traditionally been guided by anecdotal experiences and intuition. Recent advances in tools and methodologies for mining open-source repositories have enabled developers to make datadriven software engineering decisions. In light of this, this paper proposes an approach for motivating data-driven programming evolution by applying frequent subgraph …

Context: Agronomic surveys play a vital role in identifying on-farm yield constraints and opportunities to increase productivity, input-use efficiency, and farmer profit. These surveys typically rely on farmer-reported data, where crop yield and applied inputs per hectare are estimated based on farmer-reported total harvested output and applied inputs per field and associated field size. At question is how accurate field size is, which is vital in the case of smallholders as small inaccuracies can lead to large biases in estimated yield and inputs.
Objectives: The goals of this study are to assess current approaches to determine field size …
Protecting The Blind Side Of Title Vii From The Blitz Of Textualism, Sean Harrison
Protecting The Blind Side Of Title Vii From The Blitz Of Textualism, Sean Harrison
Nebraska Law Bulletin (Selected Issues)
Just like the outcome of Brian Flores’ lawsuit against the National Football League, the existence of private affirmative action is uncertain. A case could be brought, or it might not. Even if a case is brought, the Supreme Court may not even take it up. But that does not mean we should stand idly by. By analyzing the past and by tracing judicial trends in statutory interpretation, we can see a potential blitz coming. Instead of hoping the blitz never comes, we need to proactively adjust the protection in order to not be blindsided by a potential challenge to Weber …

Accurate assessment of evapotranspiration (ETa) and crop coefficient (Kc) is crucial for optimizing irrigation practices in water-scarce regions. While satellite-based surface energy balance models offer a promising solution, their application to sparse canopies like apple orchards requires specific validation. This study investigated the spatial and temporal dynamics of ETa and Kc in a drip-irrigated ‘Pink Lady’ apple orchard under Mediterranean conditions over three growing seasons (2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15). The METRIC model, incorporating calibrated sub-models for leaf area index (LAI), surface roughness (Zom), and soil heat flux (G), was employed to estimate ETa and Kc. These estimates were validated …

Sex Differences And Sex‑Specific Regulation Of Motivated Behavior By Melanin‑Concentrating Hormone: A Short Review, Isabel R. K. Kuebler, Mauricio Suárez, Ken T. Wakabayashi
Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications
Recent preclinical research exploring how neuropeptide transmitter systems regulate motivated behavior reveal the increasing importance of sex as a critical biological variable. Neuropeptide systems and their central circuits both contribute to sex differences in a range of motivated behaviors and regulate sex-specific behaviors. In this short review, we explore the current research of how sex as a biological variable influences several distinct motivated behaviors that are modulated by the melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) neuropeptide system. First, we review how MCH regulates feeding behavior within the context of energy homeostasis differently between male and female rodents. Then, we focus on MCH’s role …

Swine Influenza A Virus: Challenges And Novel Vaccine Strategies, Erika M. Petro-Turnquist, Matthew J. Pekarek, Eric A. Weaver
Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications
Swine Influenza A Virus (IAV-S) imposes a significant impact on the pork industry and has been deemed a significant threat to global public health due to its zoonotic potential. The most effective method of preventing IAV-S is vaccination. While there are tremendous efforts to control and prevent IAV-S in vulnerable swine populations, there are considerable challenges in developing a broadly protective vaccine against IAV-S. These challenges include the consistent diversification of IAV-S, increasing the strength and breadth of adaptive immune responses elicited by vaccination, interfering maternal antibody responses, and the induction of vaccine-associated enhanced respiratory disease after vaccination. Current vaccination …
