U.S. SURVEY RESULTS--The discussion, advantages, and disadvantages are the views of the province or state under which they appear. Information was obtained from questionnaires sent to the individual states on August 3, 1973. The following is a summary of the responses to this questionnaire and does not take into consideration any progress achieved since then.
Canadian Survey Results-- The following information concerning the Canadian provinces was supplied by Stan Webb o f Alberta for the Alberta Fish and Wildlife Division, Department of Lands and Forests in Edmonton. Mr. Webb prepared a survey in the …

New Standard Used For Equal Protection: Boraas V. Village Of Belle Terre, 476 F.2d 806 (2d Cir. 1973), Paul M. Schudel
Nebraska Law Review
The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Boraas v. Village of Belle Terre sanctioned a new standard to govern the application of the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment. Faced with an exclusionary zoning ordinance, the court abandoned the rigid two-tiered equal protection approach in favor of a test directed toward determining whether the legislative classification was in fact substantially related to the ordinance's objective. As a result of applying this interpretation, the court found the zoning ordinance unconstitutional. This note examines whether the court's test was correct in light of recent United States Supreme …
Graduate Education And New Jobs In Education, Paul A. Olson
Graduate Education And New Jobs In Education, Paul A. Olson
Department of English: Faculty Publications
Teacher education has too largely concerned itself with a study of schooling rather than a study of education. In the next generation, given the concerns that I’ve talked about, we’re going to have to look much more intensively, on the one hand, at how much human beings learn as biological creatures and, on the other hand, at all the cultural and legal constraints on learning that exist. We will look at education in industry, in the community, in community action programs, in the tribal council, education through ritual, and through play, as well as through public schooling. The job of …

Identification of blood and tissue samples for law enforcement purposes was initiated in 1968 by Carl Wolfe, Senior Biologist, Research Division, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. At that time and up to the present, a great deal of assistance, time and advice has been received from Carl R. Jolliff, Director of the Clinical Laboratory of Lincoln; Dr. Connell L. Marsh, Professor of Biochemistry, University of Nebraska, and Dr. Leonard W. Staudinger, Chairman of Biology Department, Nebraska Wesleyan University. Grateful appreciation is extended to Dr. Stan Cassel DVM and all Game Commission personnel of Nebraska and South Dakota who aided in …

Comparative Studies Of Socialization, Patricia Draper
Comparative Studies Of Socialization, Patricia Draper
Department of Anthropology: Faculty Publications
This paper will not attempt a comprehensive review of the recent literature on socialization. Rather, it will deal with four areas of the comparative study of childhood which have particular interest to this writer: systematic ethnographic reports on child life in non-Western societies; education and anthropology; cognitive style and socialization; and socialization for sex role. As a further means of narrowing the potential range of this review, the author will exclude most reports of infant, adolescent, and adult socialization.

On P-Sidon Sets, G. W. Johnson, Gordon S. Woodward
On P-Sidon Sets, G. W. Johnson, Gordon S. Woodward
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
Let G be a compact abelian group with dual group Γ. A subset E or Γ is p-Sidon (1 ≤ p < 2) if there is a constant α such that each [?] in C(G) with [?] supported on E satisfies [?]. Hence a set is 1-Sidon if and only if it is Sidon. Moreover a duality argument yields that E is p-Sidon if and only if [?] (E) [?] M(G)[?] [?], where the latter symbol denotes the restrictions of the Fourier-Stieltjes transforms to E and where p' = p/(p - 1). Several of the basic results on p-Sidon sets were independently obtained …
Cross Sections For L2,3 Auger Emission In 22- To 300-Kev H+ + Ar Collisions, M. Eugene Rudd
Cross Sections For L2,3 Auger Emission In 22- To 300-Kev H+ + Ar Collisions, M. Eugene Rudd
M. Eugene Rudd Publications
Measurements of total and differential L2,3 Auger cross sections for H+ + Ar collisions at 22 - 150 keV are presented. Additional values of these cross sections were calculated from data in earlier investigations by Volz and Rudd and by Crooks and Rudd up to 300 keV. Angular distributions are found to be isotropic. Over most of the energy range the total Auger cross sections are a factor of 2 smaller than predicted by Garcia's binary-encounter calculations.

Advantages In Mathematically Weighting Waterfowl Food Habits Data, George A. Swanson, Gary L. Krapu, James C. Bartonek, Jerome R. Serie, Douglas H. Johnson

The relative importance of various foods occurring in the diet of blue-winged teal (Anas discors), pintail (A. acuta), and gadwall (A. strepera) breeding in south-central North Dakota and lesser scaup (Aythya affinis) breeding in the vicinity of Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, are com- pared by the aggregate volume and aggregate percent methods. Advantages of the aggregate percent method are discussed in relation to the information presented.
Estimating Survival Rates From Banding Of Adult And Juvenile Birds, Douglas H. Johnson
Estimating Survival Rates From Banding Of Adult And Juvenile Birds, Douglas H. Johnson
United States Geological Survey, Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center: Publications
The restrictive assumptions required by most available methods for estimating survival prob- abilities render them unsuitable for analyzing real banding data. A model is proposed which allows survival rates and recovery rates to vary with the calendar year, and also allows juveniles to have rates different from adults. In addition to survival rates and recovery rates, the differential vulnerability factors of juveniles relative to adults are estimated. Minimum values of the variances of the estimators are also given. The new procedure is applied to sets of duck and goose data in which reasonably large numbers of adult and juvenile birds …
Measurable Choice And The Invariant Subspace Problem, Edward A. Azoff, Frank Gilfeather
Measurable Choice And The Invariant Subspace Problem, Edward A. Azoff, Frank Gilfeather
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
In [1], J. Dyer, A. Pedersen and P. Porcelli announced that an affirmative answer to the invariant subspace problem would imply that every reductive operator is normal. Their argument, outlined in [1], provides a striking application of direct integral theory. Moreover, this method leads to a general decomposition theory for reductive algebras which in turn illuminates the close relationship between the transitive and reductive algebra problems.
