The Andromache Of Euripides, Keith M. Aldrich Apr 1961

The Andromache Of Euripides, Keith M. Aldrich

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

There seems now to be widespread agreement in the otherwise disputatious world of letters that literary criticism is one of the most difficult and one of the least generally successful of all undertakings. 1 As a science it is (and has always been) constantly frustrated by the absence of principles and applicable theories. As a service it has been regularly ignored. As an art it has usually found recognition only in disguise. The reasons underlying this undistinguished record are many: ignorance, shortsightedness, bigotry-all such imperfections on the part of the critics have contributed their share; they, with the passage of …

Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications

Moths of the army cutworm, Chorizagrotis auxiliaris (Grote), (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) responded ovipositionally to differences in soil color, texture, and depth. Number of eggs laid increased with amount of light reflected. A combination of loose surface over a solid substrate was required. A light-colored sand fulfilled all requirements and was preferred over soil. Soil was acceptable when a loose surface of correct depth was provided. Solid surfaces were refused.

Relation Of Heart Girth To Weight In Holsteins And Jerseys, H. P. Davis, W. W. Swett, W. R. Harvey

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

Body weight is the one measurement most extensively used to evaluate growth, condition, and value for beef, and as a basis for calculating feed requirements for cattle. Weight can be determined readily by scales but unfortunately scales of a capacity adequate for weighing cattle are not always available. Thus there is a real need for a basis of estimating weight from some body measurement that can be obtained easily and at a minimum of cost and time. It is the aim of this study to utilize additional data now available to increase further the accuracy and reliability of estimating weight …

Tones And Intervals Of Hindu Classical Music, Donald A. Lentz Jan 1961

Tones And Intervals Of Hindu Classical Music, Donald A. Lentz

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

ART IS ALL ENDURING and limitless, and defies positive, unvariable classification. No attempt is being made in this book to compare artistic, subjective or emotional factors. Only the objective elements, techniques and procedures of music that are tangible and definite are being compared and classified. Western music, having reached a plateau under the present harmonic system, is projecting into new channels for textural inspiration. Composers have exploited the present system, using existing intervals in every conceivable manner under existing tonal and atonal theories. Devices such as smaller intervals (example: tempered quarter tones), electronic combinations, aleatonic principles, etc. are being dealt …

Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement Of Support Act: Granting An Obliger Section Six Jurisdiction In A Responding State On An Ex Parte Basis, Joseph L. Krause Jan 1961

Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement Of Support Act: Granting An Obliger Section Six Jurisdiction In A Responding State On An Ex Parte Basis, Joseph L. Krause

Nebraska Law Review

The purpose of this article is to examine a conflict in judicial interpretations of the extradition provisions of the Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Act of 1952 and to suggest an appropriate solution. The question raised is whether an obligor-defendant charged with the crime of desertion or nonsupport in a demanding state can defeat extradition by submitting to the jurisdiction of a court in a responding state and complying with that court's support order. Section 5 of the Support Act, expanding upon the Uniform Extradition Act, provides for extradition of any person charged with desertion or nonsupport in the demanding …

The Commission refused to name the informants, or to reveal the exact charges filed, and denied the registrars the right to confront and cross-examine the informants. A suit was brought against the Commission to enjoin the proposed hearing on grounds that the procedures sought to be used denying these rights were beyond the …

49th Annual Feeders Day Progress Report: Improving Beef Production Through Nutrition And Management, E. F. Frolik, A. W. Epp

Nebraska Beef Cattle Reports

The science of nutrition has come into its own in the last few years. Greater recognition of the value of protein, the identification of new nutrients and the awareness of the importance of nutrition to health have been part of this trend.

In this new era in nutrition, beef has been found to be one of our most nutritious foods. Not only does it contain a generous amount of protein, but its protein is of high quality, too. In addition, beef supplies important minerals such as iron and phosphorus, which contribute to healthy blood and sturdy bones. The essential B …

Current Trends In State Constitutional Revision, W. Brooke Graves Jan 1961

Current Trends In State Constitutional Revision, W. Brooke Graves

Nebraska Law Review

This first article of three on constitutional revision is by Dr. W. Brooke Graves, considered the leading academic authority in the field of state constitutional revision. Americans have been writing and rewriting state constitutions for almost two hundred years. In that time, on the basis of a fund of experience acquired in individual states and in the nation, something approaching an art—or at least a method—of constitutional revision ought to have developed. But a study of the record gives little support for such an assumption. Some of the skills and fine judgment of the early framers of state constitutions appears …

Streamlining The Executive In Nebraska, Frank B. Morrison

The Decline And Fall Of Wolf V. Colorado, Dale W. Broeder Jan 1961

The Decline And Fall Of Wolf V. Colorado, Dale W. Broeder

Nebraska Law Review

The purpose here is to examine critically the recent opinion of the United States Supreme Court in Mapp v. Ohio; to place the opinion in historical perspective; to examine important questions the opinion raises but leaves unanswered; and to consider the implications of the opinion in the difficult area of federal-state relationships. Mapp holds that evidence procured by state officers in violation of the fourth amendment is inadmissible in state criminal prosecutions. Building on certain dicta in Wolf v. Colorado, while at the same time repudiating the actual holding of that case, the Court found not only that …
