Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research Publications

This report is a summary of Montana residents and their expectations related to spending, personal income, travel, and recreation over the next 12 months. ITRR conducted a similar study in 2019, aimed at understanding the current trends of consumer confidence in addition to residents' expectations for travel plans over a one year time horizon. Since that time, much has changed, including the COVID-19 pandemic and increased demand for the MT tourism industry, rising gas prices, and inflation at historic levels. This report highlights residents' sentiments regarding fuel prices, personal income, and travel.

Mad Plume V. Mad Plume, 22-Ap-08 (Blkft. Tr. Ct. App., Aug. 31, 2022), Blackfeet Appellate Court

Court Decisions

In the Blackfeet Tribal Court of Appeals, the Court considered an appeal concerning the award of the family home in Blackfeet Tribal Court, disputing the proper successor in Death to the property, located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The legal decedent owner of the home passed away in 2013, and legally conveyed the home by gift deed to the Appellant. The respondent produced a subsequent, unnotarized document purporting to dispute the prior conveyance. The court rejected the second document, awarding the home to the appellant. The Court clarified that the respondent failed to produce sufficient documentation to sustain her burden …

Application Of Sulfur Sad To Small Crystals With A Large Asymmetric Unit And Anomalous Substructure, Tung Chung Mou, Baisen Zeng, Tzanko I. Doukov, Stephen R. Sprang Aug 2022

Application Of Sulfur Sad To Small Crystals With A Large Asymmetric Unit And Anomalous Substructure, Tung Chung Mou, Baisen Zeng, Tzanko I. Doukov, Stephen R. Sprang

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

The application of sulfur single-wavelength anomalous dispersion (S-SAD) to determine the crystal structures of macromolecules can be challenging if the asymmetric unit is large, the crystals are small, the size of the anomalously scattering sulfur structure is large and the resolution at which the anomalous signals can be accurately measured is modest. Here, as a study of such a case, approaches to the SAD phasing of orthorhombic Ric-8A crystals are described. The structure of Ric-8A was published with only a brief description of the phasing process [Zeng et al. (2019), Structure, 27, 1137-1141]. Here, alternative approaches to determining the 40-atom …

Constraints To Wilderness Recreation: A Scoping Review Of Existing Research, Elena R. Thomas, William L. Rice, Jaclyn R. Rushing, Jennifer M. Thomsen, Christopher A. Armatas

Society and Conservation Faculty Publications

Considerable research has been conducted on the constraints to recreation that traditionally underrepresented communities in the United States confront; however, there remains a lack of synthesis concerning constraints to visitation to federally designated wilderness areas. This scoping review of the current available literature seeks to reveal what constraints have been identified to visitation to federally designated wilderness in the United States and what groups are experiencing them. Constraints identified include discomfort and safety concerns specific to wilderness settings, cultural expectations, and issues of time, cost, and access. Additionally, constraints are explored with reference to the influence of management actions focused …

Patterns, Mechanisms, And Consequences Of Stoichiometric Flexibility In Terrestrial Ecosystems, Cory C. Cleveland Jul 2022

Patterns, Mechanisms, And Consequences Of Stoichiometric Flexibility In Terrestrial Ecosystems, Cory C. Cleveland

University Grant Program Reports

Despite a strong conceptual basis for the importance of stoichiometric flexibility in terrestrial ecosystems, surprisingly little is known about its nature, extent, and consequences. To address this knowledge gap, I leveraged UGP funds to explore this question in multiple ways.

Montana Workforce Study - 2022, Carter Bermingham, Matthew Pettigrew, Megan Schultz, Josh Martin

Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research Publications

This report is a summary of Montana residents and their participation within the workforce during the first quarter (Jan-March) of 2022.

This study was conducted to understand what part of the general resident population has worked in the service and hospitality industry since the beginning of 2020. Some topics include residents' current work status and whether or not they left their job since the start of the pandemic (and why). The report also includes demographic information as well as analysis conducted on the six different travel regions within the state (Glacier, Southwest, Central, Yellowstone, Southeast, and Missouri River).
