Participants will learn the value and processes for documenting conversation of Indigenous languages. Participants will learn from examples of conversation documentation projects and from discussion, why and how to accomplish such projects themselves.
Day 1: Become aware of the issue - Why and how to document conversation
- (45 min. discussion) class members introduce themselves and their interest in conversation documentation.
- (45 min. presentation and discussion) View examples of conversation documentation and discuss strengths and weaknesses of who is recorded, audio, video, transcription, translation, usability.

This workshop is based on the open educational resource (OER) Archiving for the Future: Simple Steps for Archiving Language Documentation Collections (Kung et al. 2020), a short course designed to aid people of all backgrounds to confidently organize born-digital and digitized language materials and data for deposit into any digital repository or language archive for long-term preservation and accessibility. In the Blackfeet Tribal Court of Appeals, the Court considered an appeal in a Probate dispute. However, the Court clarified that the Final Order is not ripe for appeal as the probate has not been finalized. Therefore, the court remanded the case to be heard by the lower court.

CoLang 2022 Workshops
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn practical skills for creating animated videos of traditional stories for use in community language reclamation efforts. Curriculum centered within Indigenous storytelling prioritizes place-based education and alternative literacies that are essential to Indigenous knowledge systems while reinforcing the validity of Indigenous traditions of language transmission and destabilizing the hegemony of Western pedagogical practices. Each day we will begin with a presentation and discussion of different topics from Indigenous scholarship in pedagogical methods as they relate to developing appropriate animated videos, including linguistic features of narratives, and potential applications of animated traditional stories in language …

How Is Bias Established? Interpreting Disparities Of Care, Stewart Justman

It is a central claim of the literature on racial and ethnic disparities of care that socioeconomic and other variables do not fully explain these differences and that bias on the part of doctors also contributes importantly. By the same token, however, before a case for bias can be made, other explanations for observed disparities must be ruled out. Over the last two decades, this principle of exclusion has eroded. Documenting a change in the norms of the literature, the present article reviews a number of arguments that allege or suggest bias by doctors even while other explanations for disparities …

Clarence E. Burns Manuscript: "The University of Montana: A History Through the Lens of Physical Culture, PE, Health, Athletics, and Recreation 1897-2019"
Dr. Burns’ manuscript chronicles how the University of Montana’s Department of Elocution and Physical Culture (1897), one of the university’s oldest programs, evolved to become the Department of Physical Education and later the Department of Health and Human Performance, a program that initially organized “gymnasium practice” and later trained physical education teachers and coaches. The program eventually became one of the most popular campus venues for candidates interested in pre-medicine, physical therapy, nursing, physician assistant certification, and other post-baccalaureate health-care training programs.
