CoLang 2022 Workshops
This workshop will provide participants with the ability to create immersion sets and story for language acquisition through a multimedia format. We will learn to create and maintain structure through storyboarding and introduce participants to basic camera technique. Students can expect to learn to use shot framing, camera angles, and camera movement to lower the affective filter and generate engaging repetition of target vocabulary/grammar structure and breathe life into asynchronous language lessons.

This course is intended for anyone (community members, language teachers, archives users, students, faculty, senior researchers) of any level who wants to have a better understanding of how consent, permission, intellectual property, cultural property, traditional knowledge and copyright interact with each other and how they affect language researchers, community members, archive staff and the general public. Week 2 further explores relationships between morphological and syntactic systems, as well as their interface with meaning (semantics), and aspects of language use (songs, stories, baby talk, etc.)
Other questions to be discussed include: What is a “polysynthetic” language? What does it mean for different languages to be related to each other, whereas other languages are “genetically distinct”? What is a “dialect”? What kinds of changes in a language can occur over time?
Class participants will build documentation and analytical skills through hands-on experience with data from a diversity of endangered Indigenous languages around the world. Participants are particularly encouraged …

In the Blackfeet Tribal Court of Appeals, the Court granted a motion to set aside default judgement and vacate a lower court ruling after the appellant stated he did not receive notice of scheduling due to the confusion around Covid-19. The Court entered a default for dissolution of marriage. The lower court found appellant was duly served after his notice was mailed to his attorney, however, the attorney had withdrawn from the case and did not send notice of his withdrawal to the appellant, due to issues surrounding Covid-19.
