The Writing Center Annual Report: 2009-2010, Kelly Webster
The Writing Center Annual Report: 2009-2010, Kelly Webster
The Writing Center: Reports
The 2009-2010 academic year marked continued growth and change in The Writing Center’s services. Persistent faculty and student desire for effective writing tutoring and instruction compelled Writing Center staff to find innovative ways to keep apace the growing demand for Writing Center services. Conducting 4,053 one-to-one consultations with undergraduate and graduate student writers, The Writing Center remained flexible enough to meet students’ needs for well-informed readers and for writing instruction throughout their academic tenures. Writing Center staff facilitated more consultations and presented more in-class workshops at the invitation of faculty than in any previous academic year, a fact that speaks …

Shame, Guilt, Anger, And Seeking Psychological Treatment Among A Trauma Exposed Population, Katrina L. Bratton
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between guilt-proneness, shameproneness, trait anger, PTSD symptoms, and willingness to seek treatment. A sample of 202 introductory psychology students completed questionnaire measures of each of these variables. Based on a self-report measure of PTSD symptoms, the sample was divided into 3 groups: trauma-PTSD group (n = 29); trauma-no PTSD group (n = 72); and a no trauma group (n = 101). Group comparisons revealed a trend that the PTSD group and the no trauma group reported higher levels of shame than the trauma-no PTSD group. The PTSD group also reported …
Burnout In Psychiatric Nursing: Possible Protective Factors, Renee Madathil
Burnout In Psychiatric Nursing: Possible Protective Factors, Renee Madathil
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
The phenomenon of burnout is composed of feelings of low personal accomplishment, cynical attitudes, and negative self-evaluation and is considered a consequence of experiences at work (Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 1996). Although employees in several different occupations are likely to experience burnout, nurses are considered to be a high-risk group (Miller, Reesor, McCarrey, & Leikin, 1995). Considering the amount of direct client contact that nurses have, it is important to consider ways in which we can protect this group from experiencing the effects of burnout. Leadership style of supervisors in the setting, and the way the institution fosters autonomy, appear …

Connecting Youth And Communities: Customized Career Planning For Youth With Psychiatric Disabilities, Kim Brown, University Of Montana Rural Institute
Employment
Young people with psychiatric disabilities are significantly overrepresented in the juvenile justice system, tend to be employed sporadically if at all, and frequently have negative connections within and to their communities. Recent research conducted in Montana with youth who have developmental and/or physical disabilities demonstrates the effectiveness of using a customized career planning model to increase linkages to resources and access to community- based employment. Side benefits include improved self-esteem and positive community connections. The customization model holds promise as a way to reduce the risk factors young people with psychiatric disabilitiesf ace and increase the resiliency factors that can …
