Understanding Point And Slope In Linear Equations And Approximations: A Case Study, Kyunghee Moon
Understanding Point And Slope In Linear Equations And Approximations: A Case Study, Kyunghee Moon
The Mathematics Enthusiast
This article delves into an intervention designed to enhance a precalculus student’s understanding in constructing linear equations and in approximating function values. Before the intervention, the student primarily relied on the algebraic formula y2-y1/x2-x1 to determine slope, knew slope geometrically as Δy/Δx solely for integer values, and struggled to construct a linear equation without an explicitly shown y-intercept. Through the intervention, the student comprehended slope m as a unit rate and expanded this understanding to Δy = 𝑚Δ𝑥 for integer Δx by iterating m, Δ𝑥 number of times. She …

Veterans In Focus: Disability And Veterans In Rural America, Hannah W. Pepprock, Lillie Greiman, University Of Montana Rural Institute
Health and Wellness
There are an estimated 17 million Veterans living throughout the United States. Relative to the general population, Veterans are more likely to experience disability. Veterans are also disproportionately represented in rural areas across the U.S. As people with disabilities are also disproportionately represented in rural areas, it is valuable to explore the intersection between veteran status, disability, and rurality. This analysis uses publicly available date from the American Community Survey to examine service-connected disability rating status and the ACS-6 questions on functional ability as they related to U.S. regions and rurality.

The purpose of this portfolio is to share my experience with these cycles from the individuals I have worked with, to families, groups and my community, implementing Just Practice’s own core process cycle of cultivating social justice through an integrated approach to practice. Relying on examples from my coursework and practicum opportunities, I offer critical self-reflection of my own values and assumptions shaping my ethical and professional behavior, demonstrating my growth as an advanced integrated practitioner. Incorporated are the theoretical approaches I have utilized in bringing historical, cultural, and political perspectives towards understanding difference, oppression, and social-justice oriented action. I …
