Online Learning In Post-Covid Library Instruction: Creating A Library Skills And Orientation Blackboard Course At The University Of Mississippi, Brooke Gross
Library Publications
This paper examines the development process of a library Blackboard course by a Research & Instruction Librarian at the University of Mississippi over the course of one summer. The Library Skills and Orientation course sought to address two issues: limited first-year instruction capabilities and underdeveloped skillsets in upper-level students. It was designed to replace first-year instruction where able and supplement subject-specific instruction where needed. Pursuing new online learning initiatives can be a tough sell, however, when many institutions are attempting to return to normal in-person routines after two years of forced virtual work due to the pandemic. This paper discusses …

Theoretical Spectra And Energetics For C-C3hc2h, L-C5h2, And Bipyramidal D3h C5h2, Alexandria G. Watrous, Brent R. Westbrook, Ryan C. Fortenberry
Faculty and Student Publications
The recent astronomical detection of c-C3HC2H and l-C5H2 has led to increased interest in C5H2 isomers and their relative stability. The present work provides the first complete list of anharmonic vibrational spectral data with infrared intensities for three such isomers as well as including the first set of rotational data for the bipyramidal C5H2 isomer allowing for these molecules to serve as potential tracers of interstellar carbon. All three isomers have fundamental vibrational frequencies with at least one notably intense fundamental frequency. The l-C5H2 isomer has, by far, the highest intensities out of the three isomers at 2076.3 cm−1 (738 …

Journal of Rural Social Sciences
Disparities in health and barriers to healthcare are prominent in rural areas, particularly in the Delta region of Mississippi where high rates of premature births, infant mortality, low weight births, and maternal mortality exacerbate the dearth of access to care. Extending the reach of healthcare providers and services between urban and rural areas is of utmost importance in improving the landscape of maternal and child health. Community health workers (CHWs), trusted individuals in the community, play a valuable role in this through social support. This research note delineates the importance of community health workers as connectors in establishing a trusted …

Distribution Of Values Of Logarithmic Derivatives Of L-Functions, Alia Hamieh
Distribution Of Values Of Logarithmic Derivatives Of L-Functions, Alia Hamieh
Algebra/Number Theory Seminar
I will review the history of value-distribution problems for the Riemann zeta function and other L-functions, and I survey some recent results on this topic. I will also discuss the methods used in studying the value-distribution of the logarithmic derivatives of a family of quadratic twist L-functions with the goal of describing an upper bound on the discrepancy in the convergence of this family to its limiting distribution. In particular, I discuss joint work with Amir Akbary in which we obtain discrepancy bounds for the family L'/L(1 + it, χ_D) of logarithmic derivatives of quadratic twists of a fixed automorphic …
