An Integrated Data-Driven Framework For Coupling Upland Process Models And In-Stream Hydraulic Geometry Estimation, Ahmet Nazim Sahin
An Integrated Data-Driven Framework For Coupling Upland Process Models And In-Stream Hydraulic Geometry Estimation, Ahmet Nazim Sahin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Large-scale watershed simulation platforms, such as the Agricultural Integrated Management System (AIMS), are essential for water resource management but are often limited by a critical lack of detailed in-stream channel data required for comprehensive river analysis. This study addresses this gap by developing and validating an integrated, data-driven framework that couples upland process models with in-stream hydraulic geometry estimation at a national scale. The research was executed through two complementary thrusts founded on the National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus).
First, a geospatial workflow was developed to create NHDPlus-driven input files for the Annualized Agricultural Non-Point Source (AnnAGNPS) model—a tool for …
The Relationship Between College Entrance Exam Scores And First-Year Undergraduate Grade Point Averages At A Regional Public University: An Exploratory Analysis, Kaitlyn Sanson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines the relationship between college entrance exam scores and first-year college grade point averages for first-year students enrolled at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Using a three-manuscript approach, the dissertation in practice explores the predictive validity of college entrance exam scores in higher education admissions, evaluates the effectiveness of these exams in forecasting academic success, and connects leadership philosophy to data-driven decision-making in admissions policies.
Manuscript One introduces the problem of practice by situating college entrance exams within the broader context of college admissions. While entrance exams such as the ACT and SAT have traditionally been …
High-Resolution And Time-Efficient Infiltration Rate Estimating Technique Using Geophysical Emi And Hydrogeological Modeling, Md Abdus Samad
High-Resolution And Time-Efficient Infiltration Rate Estimating Technique Using Geophysical Emi And Hydrogeological Modeling, Md Abdus Samad
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Information on infiltration rates is crucial for developing climate-resilient infrastructure, optimizing irrigation in agricultural management, and tackling stormwater-related hazards. However, rapid urbanization and climate change are expected to exacerbate these risks. Therefore, proper assessment and understanding of infiltration capacity is essential for designing effective soil conservation strategies aimed at enhancing infiltration, reducing erosion, and supporting sustainable land and water management. Despite the importance, traditional methods such as single ring and double ring infiltrometer (DRI) test are limited by spatial resolution and time inefficiency, often fail to capture spatial heterogeneity across large areas.
To address these limitations, this research developed a …
Beyond Guns Vs. Butter: Gendered Dynamics In Security Policy Preferences, Elaine Elizabeth Tagert
Beyond Guns Vs. Butter: Gendered Dynamics In Security Policy Preferences, Elaine Elizabeth Tagert
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation challenges the foundational assumptions of the “guns versus butter” debate by recentering gender, insecurity, and state legitimacy in the analysis of public opinion. Drawing on over 300,000 individual responses across 80 countries, and original survey data from post-conflict Colombia, it demonstrates that the commonly held belief that women are more likely to prioritize welfare over security is both context-dependent and empirically unstable. Rather than reflecting innate preferences, gendered policy attitudes emerge from lived experiences of violence, inequality, and institutional trust.
The first empirical chapter reveals a striking reversal of conventional expectations in the Global South: in regions where …
Measurement Of Forces In Standing Wave Ultrasonic Fields, Milan Rai
Measurement Of Forces In Standing Wave Ultrasonic Fields, Milan Rai
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The acoustic radiation force provides the physical mechanism for the non-contact levitation and manipulation of particles in ultrasonic standing wave fields. This thesis presents a study on the measurement, simulation, and validation of acoustic radiation forces acting on spherical particles levitated in air. The motivation for this work is to provide high-precision measurements of acoustic radiation forces in trapping systems, which are of particular interest in biomedical manipulation, materials science, and contactless assembly.
The study employs a three-part methodology: theoretical analysis, experimental observation, and numerical simulation. Theoretically, the acoustic radiation force was derived from Gor’kov’s potential (valid for ka « …
Groundwater Age Estimates For The Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer And Comparisons With Hydrogeologic Heterogeneity, Michael Gratzer
Groundwater Age Estimates For The Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer And Comparisons With Hydrogeologic Heterogeneity, Michael Gratzer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Groundwater age is a useful tool for characterizing various aspects of groundwater availability. No aquifer-wide groundwater age characterization was completed for the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer (MRVA) before this study. Using 3H, 14C, SF6, and 3Hetrit concentrations in groundwater samples from the MRVA and some underlying aquifers of the Mississippi embayment, this study estimated age distributions of samples with lumped parameter models (LPMs) in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) TracerLPM software and investigated the factors controlling groundwater age in the MRVA. To better understand how hydrogeologic heterogeneity affects groundwater age, each sample’s age distribution coefficient of variation [Cv(LPMAD)] was …

Fictional And Historical Narratives Of African American Soldiers Of Wwii, Abigail Rae Stewart
Fictional And Historical Narratives Of African American Soldiers Of Wwii, Abigail Rae Stewart
Honors Theses
This thesis examines the experiences of African American soldiers during World War II through the dual lenses of oral histories and fictionalized accounts, arguing that both are essential to fully understanding their multifaceted journeys at home and abroad. Oral histories provide direct, personal narratives from veterans themselves, capturing their voices, emotions, and reflections on the discrimination, camaraderie, and resilience that defined their wartime and postwar lives. These firsthand accounts offer invaluable insights into the structural realities of systemic racism within the military and society, as well as the personal sacrifices these soldiers made in the name of a country that …

Sustainability Of Food Prescription Programs In Rural Mississippi, Eve Davis
Honors Theses
Food prescription programs are an innovative strategy to address food insecurity and to promote health as a preventative measure, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Mississippi has high rates of chronic diseases relating to nutrition, poverty, and limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Throughout this research, I have analyzed program funding and sustainability mechanisms such as community investment, nutrition education, and awareness. The preliminary research has identified the need for collaboration between healthcare providers, local farmers, nonprofit organizations, and government officials. I interviewed various individuals that could become potential stakeholders for food prescription programs, such as individuals from nonprofit …
