Sound Science: Ole Miss, Usm Use Acoustics To Monitor Coastal Threats, Clara Turnage
University of Mississippi News
OXFORD, Miss. – When a motorboat cuts across the ocean or a helicopter buzzes overhead, it leaves a sonic signature. Mississippi researchers recently teamed up to test sensors designed to detect and analyze those signals in real time, potentially offering a new way to monitor coastal threats.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study aimed to explore potential use of pneumatic-based thermoplastic 3D bioprinter to create personalized tablets in a single-step process. In investigates the development of a single pill containing two model drugs: Metformin HCl (a highly soluble drug) for extended-release and Atorvastatin Calcium Trihydrate (a low-solubility drug) for immediate release with enhanced solubility. To achieve this, Eudragit RSPO as extended-release polymer and Polyethylene Oxide (PEO N10) as immediate release polymer was used, and the tablets were fabricated using Direct Powder Extrusion (DPE) Technology with pneumatic-based thermoplastic print heads. Key processing parameters, such as nozzle printing speed, infill density, printhead temperature, …

Interstellar aromatic infrared band (AIB) spectra are showing strong agreement with presently-computed, anharmonic spectra for various types of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) determined using a novel semi-empirical quantum chemical method. Since the AIB spectrum is a blend of emission spectra from a vast number of different PAHs, likely with an array of different molecular structures, the spectra for a sample set of 31 PAHs ranging in size from naphthalene (C$_{10}$H$_8$) up to circumbiphenyl (C$_{38}$H$_{16}$) are combined giving consideration to almost all PAH structural motifs. The computed, numerical quartic force fields coupled to second-order vibrational perturbation theory clearly confirm that PAH …
Microsolvation Effects Of 1,1-Dimethyl-Biguanide (Metformin), Jasmine L. Sanders
Microsolvation Effects Of 1,1-Dimethyl-Biguanide (Metformin), Jasmine L. Sanders
Honors Theses
The microsolvation of a 1,1-dimethyl-biguanide hydrochloride molecule in the presence of water molecules illustrates the initial interactions between the common drug metformin and water. This explicit water-solvation approach employs coupled-cluster theory with an explicit-correlation F12 correction and the cc-pVTZ-F12 basis set to determine the optimalgeometry of the molecule and to observe intermolecular interaction energies. 1,1-dimethyl-biguanide hydrochloride (an antidiabetic agent, metformin) is constantly in contact with water molecules in the human body, where it reduces intestinal glucose absorption, lowers hepatic glucose sensitivity, and improves overall insulin sensitivity to lower blood-glucose concentration. The B3LYP method with an aug-cc-pVTZ basis set is used …
External Impacts On Internal Accounting, Maggie E. Boswell
External Impacts On Internal Accounting, Maggie E. Boswell
Honors Theses
This thesis examines how external economic, legal, political, and consumer pressures can affect internal operations, accounting, and audit risk, using PepsiCo, Inc. as a case study. The analysis draws on PepsiCo’s annual reports and Form 10-K, company disclosures, government materials, and business and news sources. Attention is given to the Make America Healthy Again initiative, changing health expectations, food regulation, tariffs, and sustainability concerns. The analysis finds that these pressures could increase research and development, production, inventory, legal, and supply-chain costs while also creating opportunities for PepsiCo to expand healthier products and sustainable practices. These operational changes may also increase …
