Faculty and Student Publications
Background: Applying for a job can be a stressful experience. When a potential employer chooses to not move forward with a candidate, they can either directly tell them or cease communication altogether—known as ghosting. Ghosting has harmful consequences, such as lower basic psychological needs satisfaction than direct rejection, and there has been an apparent increase in this phenomenon by potential employers. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of being ghosted after submitting a hypothetical job application.
Methods: An international sample of unemployed people (N = 554) completed an online job application task and were randomly assigned …

What Instructors Need To Know When Working With Neurodivergent Students, Liz Norell
Events
Date: Wednesday, September 6 Time: 12:00-1:00 pm Location: Johnson Commons East Ballroom Facilitators: Liz Norell, associate director of instructional support Neurodivergent students (and colleagues) surround us at UM, but we rarely get concrete tips on how to create classroom spaces to ensure these students can succeed. Estimates range from 11% to 30% of students who have some sort of neurodivergence–from autism and ADHD to dyslexia to dyspraxia. This workshop will equip faculty with actionable advice on how to create spaces that allow all neurodivergent students the opportunity to succeed.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) continues to be a serious public health concern, impacting nearly affecting diverse communities worldwide. Approximately one in three men experience sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.1 Men who have sex with men (MSM) are a particularly vulnerable population, facing unique challenges in the context of both IPV and HIV prevention. MSM experience disproportionately high rates of IPV and remain at an elevated risk of HIV transmission, making them a critical target group for research and intervention efforts.2,3 In recent decades, significant strides have been made in advancing the understanding …
