Osteoporosis Knowledge, Health Communication, And Prevention Behaviors Among College Students: A Cross-Sectional Study Among Male And Female College Students, Kaitlyn Ashley Armstrong
Osteoporosis Knowledge, Health Communication, And Prevention Behaviors Among College Students: A Cross-Sectional Study Among Male And Female College Students, Kaitlyn Ashley Armstrong
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Osteoporosis is a chronic degenerative bone disease affecting roughly 53 million Americans. Attainment of peak bone mass during young adulthood plays an essential role in osteoporosis prevention, and specific behaviors affecting the achievement of peak bone mass include adequate intake of dietary calcium and participation in weight-bearing physical activity. Prior research has established the links between knowledge and health communication, particularly parental communication, with engaging in healthy behaviors such as adequate calcium intake and physical activity among college students, less is known about how these relationships manifest in this population for osteoporosis prevention. Exploring additional factors such as self-efficacy that …
Responses Of Predatory Myxobacteria To Prey Signaling Molecules & Features Of A Pseudomonas Prey Avoiding Predation, Shukria Akbar
Responses Of Predatory Myxobacteria To Prey Signaling Molecules & Features Of A Pseudomonas Prey Avoiding Predation, Shukria Akbar
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Gram-negative unicellular myxobacteria, along with their multicellular lifestyle andbiologically active specialized metabolites, are known for the predatory interactions with Gram-negative/ Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. Although myxobacterial predation range have been exploited extensively, little is known about the prey associated molecules contributing to myxobacterial predator-prey dynamics. By employing transcriptomics and untargeted metabolomics approaches, we demonstrate two structurally distinct classes of signaling molecules from Gram-negative bacterial prey elicit significant omics responses from myxobacteria, Myxococcus xanthus and Cystobacter ferrugineus. An overlapping and general response to acylhomoserine lactones, whereas a distinctive response to a quinolone signaling molecule is observed from both myxobacteria. Similarly, by …
Responses Of Myxobacteria To Plant-Related Chemosignals Suggests Their Roles In The Rhizobiome, Barbara Iyare Adaikpoh
Responses Of Myxobacteria To Plant-Related Chemosignals Suggests Their Roles In The Rhizobiome, Barbara Iyare Adaikpoh
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the rhizosphere, plants curate and maintain distinct rhizobiome, some of which serve as secondary defense mechanisms against pathogenic microorganisms. Additionally, in response to biotic stress, plants generate phytohormones which regulate signaling pathways to activate systemic resistance. These phytohormones contribute to the chemical space within the rhizosphere in addition to other low-molecular-weight metabolites used for cell-to-cell communication within species and across kingdoms. However, little is known about the influences of stress-related phytohormones on beneficial bacteria even though biocontrol strategies abundantly explore plant-beneficial microorganisms to manage pathogens in agricultural systems. Myxobacteria are competent predators of plant pathogens and have demonstrated responses …

Measuring The Value Of Internal Corporate Events From Attendees’ Perspective: Multidimensional Scale Development, Inna Soifer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Purpose – Business events is a trillion-dollar sector of the meetings and events industry that supports millions of jobs. Despite the social and economic impact of the meetings, expositions, events, and conventions, only a few studies have examined perceived value in the business events context. This study addresses this research gap by developing a multi-item, multidimensional scale assessing attendee perception of corporate event value.Design/methodology/approach – This study utilized a mixed-method approach and followed widely accepted psychometric scale development procedures. The scale was developed using a multistep process: item generation, expert review, development sample 1 of 506 respondents via Qualtrics Online …

A Latent Class Analysis Predictive Modeling Approach To Profile Division I Collegiate Athletes For Nutrition And Relative Energy Deficiency In Sport (Red-S) Concern, Morgan Delventhal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Screening collegiate athletes for nutrition-related concerns and low energy syndromes such as Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) provides insight for nutrition care and can lead to necessary referrals in the sports medicine team. Screening may be a part of an athletic department’s protocol, but there is a lack of consensus on a validated tool for this population. The goal of this cross-sectional research was to use a Latent Class Analysis (LCA) predictive modeling approach to determine classes of collegiate athletes who present with nutrition and RED-S concern. LCA is a person-centered approach, intending to uncover subgroups of a population …

Data has confirmed that this fungal polysaccharide contains residues of glucose (91.31%) as major, galactose (4.99%), and mannose (3.69%) …
The Black Petromodernism Of Zora Neale Hurston: Energy, Race, And Mobility, Stuart Mullet
The Black Petromodernism Of Zora Neale Hurston: Energy, Race, And Mobility, Stuart Mullet
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis situates Zora Neale Hurston and the folk communities in her oeuvre within the context of modernity’s dependencies on fossil fuels. Such a disciplinary context provides an energy footing for our understandings of African American migrations in the twentieth century—which radically transformed the nation on multiple levels—and it illuminates the communal values that undergird Black approaches to petromodern forms of mobility. Furthermore, by engaging the Black spaces of the South, my argument begins filling a gap in the energy humanities. Few scholars in this field engage deeply those populations and regions that disproportionately experience the underbelly of petromodernity and …

Development And Characterization Of Albuterol Sulfate Loaded Transdermal Patches With Hme Coupled Fdm 3d Printing, Bhavana Chivukula
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Albuterol sulfate is a short-acting selective Beta 2 Adrenergic agonist. It is used to treat and prevent bronchospasm associated with asthma, bronchitis, and other breathing disorders. It is known to show extensive first pass metabolism and it requires frequent dosing which makes it difficult for patients to comply. To avoid these problems, transdermal route of delivery of Salbutamol was explored. Traditional methods of preparation of transdermal drug delivery systems involve the use of solvents and have multiple processing steps. To avoid the usage of solvents and decrease the processing steps, HME Coupled FDM 3D printing can be used. Different polymers …

© 2020 The Authors. Ecology and Evolution published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd. Among the parasites of insects, endoparasitoids impose a costly challenge to host defenses because they use their host’s body for the development and maturation of their eggs or larvae, and ultimately kill the host. Tachinid flies are highly specialized acoustically orienting parasitoids, with first instar mobile larvae that burrow into the host’s body to feed. We investigated the possibility that Teleogryllus oceanicus field crickets employ postinfestation strategies to maximize survival when infested with the larvae of the parasitoid fly Ormia ochracea. Using crickets from the Hawaiian …

© 2020 by the authors. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a biologically active, non-psychotropic component of Cannabis sativa whose popularity has grown exponentially in recent years. Besides a wealth of potential health benefits, ingestion of CBD poses risks for a number of side effects, of which hepatotoxicity and CBD/herb-drug interactions are of particular concern. Here, we investigated the interaction potential between the cannabidiol-rich cannabis extract (CRCE) and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), a popular dietary supplement, in the mouse model. For this purpose, 8-week-old male C57BL6/J mice received MSM-containing water (80 mg/100 mL) ad libitum for 17 days. During the last three days of treatment, …
